On this March 1st in Tapa Bay, here's what is making headlines. A tragic hit and run crash on U.S. Highway 41 in Pine Ridge, Florida claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman from Crystal River and hurt several others Friday evening. Around 7pm, a GMC pickup truck heading southbound blew through a red light at North LaCanto Highway and slammed into a G-Bes UV, sparking a chain reaction that involved five vehicles total. The woman was a passenger in the Jeep and died at the scene, while others sustained minor injuries, including a 38-year-old from Inverness, a 61-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas, and a 54-year-old from LaCanto. Two people escaped unharmed, a 26-year-old man from Brooksville, and a 69-year-old woman from Inverness. But the pickup driver bolted on, foot right after the wreck. Florida highway patrol troopers are on the case, and urging anyone with tips to call star F.H.P. or star 347 to help track down the suspect.
