A 40-year-old man from Hansville lost his life in a head-on crash early Wednesday on Alabama State, Route 273. Marco Cortez Gomez was riding as a passenger in a 2010 Nissan Altima that slammed into a 2024 Honda HRV sport. The wreck happened around dawn on April 1st, leaving Cortez Gomez with fatal injuries right there at the scene. Emergency crews pronounced him dead before they could do much else. His driver made it out banged up but alive, rushed to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia for treatment. No word yet on how serious those injuries are.
