Falcons Cut Malik Heath, Unrestricted Free Agent

The Atlanta Falcons are moving on from White receiver Malik Heath, without him ever stepping on the field for them. They signed the 25-year-old back in early December, but now they've chosen to nontender his contract. That turns him from a restrictive free agent into an unrestricted one, free for any team to grab. Earlier this week, ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler broke the news. The Falcons apparently weren't sold on Heath after bringing him aboard, even though they acted fast to sign him just days after the Green Bay Packers. Let him go. Heath's path to the pros has been anything but straight. He bounced from Copia Lincoln Community College to Mississippi State and then Ole Miss, before going undrafted. Still, he stuck with the Packers for three seasons as a reliable backup. Over those years, he posted decent numbers. In his breakout season, he had 15 catches for 125 yards in a touchdown.

1:02The next year brought 10 grabs for 97 yards and 2 scores. Though this past season, he managed just 6 receptions for 86 yards in, 11 games. Expect Heath to catch on elsewhere soon.
