Eye Exam Uncovers Brain Tumor, Saving Life

0:00On March 14, a routine eye exam changed everything for 26-year-old Holly Worswick from Mackelsfield and Cheshire back in 2000, 21. During the test at Specksabers, an optical coherence tomography scan revealed her right optic nerve was unusually swollen, signaling a large brain, tumor. She was rushed to the emergency room and underwent surgery within 48 hours. Since then, Holly has had four additional brain operations plus one on her ear to manage the tumor's effects. As a beauty pageant competitor since age 16, Holly paused her teacher training and took time off work amid the shock. The diagnosis disrupted her life, but she channeled her experience into raising awareness about tumor symptoms, like headaches, vision issues, and personality changes. She's now advocating for regular eye scans to catch problems early. In August 2024, she rang the treatment bell at the Christie Hospital in Manchester after finishing proton beam radiotherapy, marking three years since her first surgery.
