The jar pack with nuts, bolts, and screws had a fuse that smoked but went out before it could blow up. Police say it was built to cause serious harm or even death. A second similar device was handed to the same suspect during the clash between far right demonstrators and a larger group of counter protesters. That one got dropped and did not ignite. Two teenagers faced arrests right there for the explosives while four others got picked up for things like using pepper spray and blocking traffic. The mayor and his wife were not home during the chaos, but he quickly spoke out against the violence. He called the use of explosives, criminal, and completely unacceptable, stressing that no protest should involve hurting people.
