Explosive Device Thrown at NYC Mayor's Home

New York City Police revealed that an explosive device thrown during protests outside Mayor Zoraan Mamdani's home over the weekend could have caused serious injury or death. The jar was packed with nuts, bolts, and screws wrapped in black tape with a fuse and hurled by a counter-protester on Saturday near Gracie Mansion. It fizzled out before detonating, rolling close to officers. Two people were arrested right at the scene, one who threw the device and another man identified as Ibrahim Qayumi. Police Commissioner Jessica Tish said this was one of two devices tossed amid clashes between opposing protest groups. The second one is still under examination. The main protest was organized by far-right activists Jake Lang, railing against what he called an Islamic takeover of the city and public Muslim. Prayers, Tish noted the mayor and his wife were not home at the time, and tensions boiled over into violence. Mayor Mamdani condemned the rally, but called the explosive attack even more shocking.
