Babybuzz! Tales of King Arthur, ex-caliber Long, long ago for King Arthur, one of the most important things he owned was his sword. But after so many battles for justice, his sword was in pretty bad shape. There's no use. Even the most talented blacksmith can't fix this sword. I need a new one, Merlin. There aren't any more. You go through swords like a dragon goes through sheep. Can't you use your magic to make one? Hmm. I can use spells to create a lot of things, but a sword you can trust. No for that you need ex-caliber. Now Arthur had heard rumors of an enchanted sword called ex-caliber. Every night had, but he didn't know where it was or how to get it.

Do you know where to find ex-caliber, Merlin? It's in a hidden land with a magical lake. A woman's arm appears in the middle of the water and holds the sword up. Every night who has seen it has wanted it. No one has this sword? Either the night sinks into the lake, never to be seen again. Or the arm and sword disappear under the water. Arthur knew a sword like this would help him keep his kingdom safe. He was ready for any danger he might face. So he and Merlin rode into the forest in search of ex-caliber. Now remember Arthur, the sword is owned by the fairies. Even though you're the king of all Britain, you have to treat them with respect. Sure thing, I've learned to always be respectful to all. Great or small, magical or mortal. Arthur and Merlin came to a huge field of flowers.

In the center of it was a crystal clear lake. A beautiful woman stood beside it, wearing a long light blue gown. I am king Arthur, I've come looking for the sword ex-caliber. You have found it. To Arthur's amazement, a woman's arm rose from the lake, holding a magnificent sword in the air. How will I get the soul? The lake is too deep for my horse to ride through. And it's hard to swim in armor. My name is Nimway, and I am one of the ladies of the lake. No man may cross this lake and live. I'll have to try. My kingdom's safety may depend upon it. You are a brave and noble knight. I know you will only use the sword to protect the weak, so I'll help you get it. Watch. A brass boat appeared from beneath the lake. It sailed across the water until it reached the shore beside Arthur.

Step into the boat. It will take you where you need to go. Arthur got into the boat. Raced across the water until it came to where the arm held the sword. Arthur reached out and took the shining blade in his hand. Ex-caliber was his. The boat took him back to Nimway and Merlin. Thank you, Nimway. I promise I'll wield this sword with honor. Take this leather sheath to hold the sword when you are not using it. And tell no one what you have seen here. Our home must stay a secret. I promise. Back home at his castle. Arthur discovered just how amazing Ex-caliber was. Merlin, look at this. Nothing can damage this sword. It can cut a bar of iron in half with one swing. Wait until you see this, Arthur. Merlin suddenly cast a powerful magic spell at the king. What?

No. You see? You swung the sword by reflex and it sliced my spell in half. We're not even magic can stand up to Ex-caliber. Oh my, what an amazing sword. Arthur fought many battles with Ex-caliber in his hand. He defeated giants and dragons, witches and ogres, and never got hurt even once. One day Merlin came to him. Tell me, Arthur, would you rather have Ex-caliber or the sheath you carry it in? That's a silly question. Ex-caliber, of course. You're wrong. The sword's sheath is magical too. As long as you wear it, nothing can harm you. Think of it. In all your battles, you have never gotten even a scratch. What? But if that's true, if I've been protected by magic, that I haven't been winning fairly, where's the honor in the fight if you can't be harmed no matter what?

You're the king. It's important that you be safe. You have a responsibility to your kingdom. You're right, Merlin. You usually are. I'll keep the sword and sheath, but I won't use Ex-caliber in battle again. And he never did. From then on, Arthur always fought on horseback using his lance. But Ex-caliber, the gleaming sword crafted by fairies, became the symbol of his rule, and people still remember its name today. Question time. Hey, kids. Nemooa only gives the sword to someone who protects others. If you were the lady of the lake, what kind of heart test would you give, King Arthur, to see if he is truly a good person? Tell us in the comments if you want a shout out.
