0:00This is entertainment and celebrity news today, powered by AI and presented by the Daily News Now. Former Love Island USA star, Cashel Barnett, has been sentenced in his domestic violence case. The season one contestant, who also appeared on the challenge USA, pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from accusations by his ex-girlfriend. She claimed he choked her and sexually assaulted her in front of their baby last summer. In court on Monday, March 16, Barnett reached a plea deal. He admitted to one count of second-degree felony, forcible sexual abuse, which carries a one-year jail term. Separately, he pleaded guilty to third-degree felony aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, each adding another one year. Sentence. Barnett has been in custody since June of last year. Prosecutors will credit him for that time served, meaning he might not face much more jail time before release. His attorney explained that Barnett regrets his actions.

1:00The plea deal avoided a potential sentence of 15 years to life, which is common in these situations. After getting out, Barnett will be on probation. His ex-girlfriend still has a protective order against him in place. A quick thank you to our sponsor of today's episode. Your favorite podcasts, music, or sleep sounds coming from your pillow.
