Evil People Rule

0:00It's Brian, your literally friend. Everyone to why it seems like God lets all the evil people rule the world. I don't see a lot of upright Christians and positions of authority. How come God doesn't put me in charge? And why does it always feel like I'm in the minority when we take a vote? I read that verse again in chapter 13 of Romans. Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except that which God has established. Oh man. And then the verse piles on by saying the authorities that exist are established by God. Well that's the truth. They're definitely established by God. And this isn't just one place in the Bible. In the book of Daniel it says he directs the times and the changes of seasons. It's right there. It says God controls the appointments and the removal of kings. Wow and I thought this was a democracy. So that means he knows exactly what's going on down here. Not only that, he probably appointed it. We're at least allows it. So why do I feel like God's team is always losing? Seems like the only place I see Christians in power is in mega churches. And let's be honest, I'm not crazy about the way they run things either. Then you got your Christian political activists.

1:01But personally I don't think there's ever been a moral majority. Most churches are smarter than the stadiums we play football in. If I was to speculate I would have to say that sports is the national religion. And most of them meet on Sunday. But somebody said more than once power has the tendency to corrupt. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. And one British historian said almost all the great men have been bad men. Is that true? So I went back to the Bible and looked for characters that God used. David was one of my favorites. Says he was a man after God's own heart. But when you look at a list of sins that he committed, they were worse than mine. And Timothy it says, I urge you first of all to pray for everyone. You know that has to include people you don't like. Yeah, it says intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. No wonder people don't like to read the Bible because it also adds, pray this way for kings and all those who are in authority. I'm kind of a fan of bumper sticker theology. Probably not always right. But I saw one yesterday that was a classic reminder. It said, there is a God. You're not him. And there's a nutshell sermon. I've always had a problem with authority.
