EVERYBODY, MEET 'BORING' JOHN HEALEY

About this episode

After John Healey decided to introduce himself to the British public I get my head around the style and substance of what he had to say. Spoiler alert: there's not much of either. I also look back on a turbulent few days for Reform, the Channel 4 sting might not matter to the base but what will 'most people' think. And what is the true definition of 'loose pub talk'? 0:00What's most important? What's most important? Hello and welcome to this week's What Most People Think Podcast and how exciting was it to start the week by really truly getting to know our Chancellor John Healey, John Healey gave one of those Monday morning announcements. Rachel Reeves did it for a while, Keir Starmer did it for a while. And John Healey, I mean I don't want to be too mean about the way that he talks but he did make. I'd say made Keir Starmer seem like Sean Locke. It was a curious lack of intonation there. So we're going to talk about that and also at the back end of last week there's this lingering rail for reform after that channel for sting hoax depending on how you look at it but they've definitely got questions to answer. You know came out during their conference which was very difficult for them.

00You've just got me today because Dominic Frisbee had a nightmare. He was supposed to be on the podcast and then somebody localer, one of his neighbours was pruning their bush. Yeah. It's just, it's anyone else got that point where there were certain innuendos that you'll never quite get over. I might have mentioned this before but you know like when you're going to subway they go 12 inch or 6 inches. You just, I don't know maybe it's that sniggering 14 year old boy. So what I decided to do was hopefully Don will have his internet restored later this week. So we're going to flip it around. Essentially it's a solo podcast at the beginning of the week and then we're going to do an episode with Don later in the late in the week. And I also should say stand by your bed's maiden list. There is news coming. I'm recording this on Monday. It'll be up on Tuesday. Get on the maiden list because there is news stuff coming on Wednesday. Okay, so it'll be Wednesday. It'll be about 10 a.m. 11 a.m. via the maiden list. You can still join the maiden list for free. That is go to JeffNorcott.co.uk and just go down the landing page just a little bit

01and just nicely shaded in light blue against the dark blue background is the button to join. I'll also be sharing that link on my socials as well. So if you want to join the maiden list now be a good time to do it. Patrons or new patrons you're already automatically on the maiden list. So along with all the other benefits of getting it early ad free and with bonus content you will get this information at exactly the same time on Wednesday without having to do anything extra. We're always I'll read out the names of new patrons and give them a little roast. The new page I've got this week is called Moic and it's spelled M-O-Y-K-E. And I don't know if that is that's just like somebody from New York saying Mike. Hey, Moic. No, would it be more Irish? Moic. Normally for one name I presume that you work in a working institution but I just think I don't know. Moic, maybe you're just maybe you're just a one name person like a Pele or Madonna. So you are very welcome and domain talking point. Our super patron David domain keeps an eye on previous weeks episodes and illuminates and elaborates.

05And the mark still episode from last week which if you haven't listened to you should it was really good stuff. Everyone that's listening to the love that. And we were talking about water ownership and David domain says that much of the water supply in the UK is actually already non corporate. Scottish water is publicly owned via the Scottish government as a statutory public corporation in Northern Ireland. It's a government company in Wales in Wales, Welsh water or do you come? I got to go to the Welsh language and they do come re come through. It's not for profit. Okay. You know I do accept that with water there is probably one of the stronger arguments for nationalising it. And David says if you want an example of the lack of investment in water supply in England under privatisation the last major reservoir built in England was Car Sinton water in 1992 and meanwhile the population in England has increased 11 million since then. So how have we been getting enough water then? If we of those reservoirs just become more efficient, have we had more rain?

10How does that work? How does that work? I often think with water as well like people in the public we genuinely it's one of those things you don't really want to think about and that the water you drink has been through people. If you think about the water cycle and all that sort of to be honest I still don't fully know exactly how it works. Like what stuff we drink has you know recycled. I don't know. I don't wish to know. But one of those things that we should probably have is more reservoirs. I always don't know about you always when I see a reservoir I think it's really vulnerable to attack. I mean I'm not wanting to give like you know of malevolent actors ideas but I always go it's so weird the things that terrorists do choose to do. Like they choose to do the hard stuff when you think that you know there's some low hanging fruit there and I don't know if what I've just said has put me on some sort of fucking watch list. What most people think? Pistake prices or more specifically a piss count price. I think we've got these I mean there's so many of these piss count prices so this has come

10to me via email and if you remember if you want to send them to what most people think UK at gmail.com and this is from somebody calling themselves that man up north and it's another one from one of these kind of voucher type sites and the offer is it's it's an absolute cracker. It's up to 0% off on tour boat at Lancashire Canal Cruises. Well first up I mean Lancashire Canal and I think nice I don't want to just you know be dismissive out of hand but up to 0% off on tour. That's what's brilliant about this is because they're implying that the very best you could do is pay exactly what it's worth. I'm guessing the other offer is not going about previously have been penalties premiums. 20% on up to 30% on everything must go. It's I don't know how these things happen I mean if anything suggests or reveals that companies are sometimes operating via fucking algorithms it's the fact that there are all these discounts being offered on discounts. Yeah maybe when I do my next tour up to 0% off I'm giving it away

16crazy Jeff's crazy Jeff's working progress tour up to 0% off on all dates now. Okay we can do the thank you and the fuck you. The thank you is to everybody I met on Saturday I went to for a bit of a day rave at Coco club in Camden which to older people will always be the Camden Palace and I don't know if there's like a Venn diagram between this podcast and people of a certain mindset you know that still want to go out and have a dance and it was it was a great event I went my wife and a friend it sadly had to end early due to a medical emergency but just saying hello to all the people that I met there so if it sound worse for where now it's not particularly because I overdid it I've still got a stomach bug because anybody else got this fucking it's a horrible stomach bug which just every softened will just give me waves of nausea and it also makes me sweat while it's happening so it's been a couple times recently where I've just sat and there's just something really gross about a guy just sweating it out of context it's you know you got something to hide it just I ever suggested you got like a bad drink or drug

17problem or that you're a pervert and so if you have been in my company recently and my my forehead is just glistened from the middle of last week when this bug came in I know I know I always say I'm getting ill I think I'm just quite an ill person do you know like everything has levels right some people have you know big hands small hands some people are you know high metabolism slow metabolism I think my immune system is just an absolute pussy and it has been for a lot of my life and the thing is if I was always ill I'd learn to live with it but I do have these brief bits where I go you know I'm like this might be what it's like to not have a virus either that or maybe I'm just very sensitive to it and an absolute fucking hypercontract and I know this is great podcast content people people love hearing people what is it the three things you should never talk about how ill you are or how busy you are or what a bad night's sleep you have no one ever generally gives a fuck speaking of fuck the fuck you is to schools in middle spru so after this huge story about the a66 crash there have been a series of funerals for the young men that were involved in

25and caused it and there's been I didn't realize this but they've been several school closures in middle spru primary schools and because of the effects of these big funerals on traffic in the area you just think like it is so hard for a government to make certain arguments when when where there is evidently situations where accommodations are made to certain groups or the police are just loath to get involved or people are just can't show some fucking bollocks really it's such a poor message to the public you know whether it's kind of like dinghies rocking up on a beach or the police are unable to stop primary schools closing you know I mean interrupts in kids' education just to me one of the worst things you know it's a bad thing to do and it's just it just shows a two-flus state really it shows a state that are scared and yet there there does seem to be some situations where they're absolutely happy to weigh in so yeah just fucking hell

25that is not that is not a legitimate reason for kids to miss their education fucking shocking okay let's take it up a notch okay we're going to talk about John Healey now the one man charisma cyclone that is Chancellor John Healey all right so he said before about these Monday morning speeches a few of them under the Starmer Reeves era happened around half eight which is pretty early I think John Healey's learned a bit from that he's gone half nine he's gone half nine I think he eventually came on about 20 to 10 quarter to 10 I do think politicians making announcements generally this whole thing of rocking up late I don't know when they all sort of hit their Mariah Carey era it's not okay it's just not just don't be fucking late like I feel the thing about being a politician or somebody in a position of power is just run things well do stuff do the basics and I suspect it might be

28because they want to make sure that I think probably happens people tune in for the time it's supposed to be on and you know people will do become dimly aware that something's happening so the later it is you might just get a bigger audience one thing I would imagine it does do is make all of the journalists to get up early and go to Birmingham because journalists can't of me but they are all London centric so all of these statements happening fucking where you know Undy Burden to your territory oh I'm doing this one today and it's a place called redditch you know they're just I've been aware of places outside London and so this one was somewhere in the West Midlands and so John Healey gets up and you know public speaking wise I'm really I know I spent a lot of time talking about how boring kids well Kirsten was it boring he had some red tonation you know he could take it up sometimes but it was also the weird haughtiness that he had you know the sense of kind of moral superiority that communicated with every single thing that he said Rachel

32was just you know it's very hectic very for sort of angry Dalek you know if you're Dalek was an angry mum no one takes but everyone takes me for granted you take you treat this place like a hotel and um but John Healey my god my god it was so horrific he sort of sounds like he's got a complaint like it intonation deficit disorder like if imagine if a man was born without the ability to go up or down within a sentence to stress points and so he gets up and straight away within you know a minute or two he's you know reiterating what he thinks the mistakes of the past are and he didn't go as far back as under he burned him but he did blame Liz Truss and one of the things that he spoke about so you know they're always trying to get in their excuses decades of underinvestment you know centuries of deindustrialization thousands of years of coastal drift you know yeah we want to take it back to when the earth first called and they mentioned Liz Truss

37and they were talking about government borrowing costs and they said that there's still a Liz plus Liz Truss penalty on our borrowing costs and I'm like I just don't know if that's true you know as much as the Labour Party like to beat the Tories with the Liz Truss stick one of the public's memories about that will probably be that it it was dealt with quite quickly you know what's it 40 odd days and they got rid of her they got rid of quasi she got rid of quasi quieting they got rid of her and then you know I suppose people would remember now Rishi and Jeremy Hunt as having a degree of stability um but yeah I just don't know what what the value is and I don't know if it's true I've heard several things that suggest that you know eventually our interest rates went up more or less in line with every other developed economy in the world and that Liz Truss thing kind of shook out after what really you know if there is concern it's about political instability and it's also about concern you know why we might be praying a premium against other countries

42is that you know we've got a government in that are seem completely unable to take difficult costs and spending the other thing that like annoyed me about there is backstory and it is like do you remember when they kept doing the Spider-Man films they're not right yeah it's Spider-Man got bit by fucking Spider-Man it's like that isn't it when they do these little here's my view of why we're fucked uh speeches so he also said that part of the problems were unfunded spending after Covid I mean it's really interesting he said after Covid because even he would have known that you cannot they had no mandate whatsoever to talk about the spending during Covid um you know Covid costs lots of money and the labour party were absolutely instrument and not just the cost of testing and all the you know furlough and but all the other things that the that the legacy of it and they were screaming as loud as anyone I can remember I mean it was for God but Keir Starmer do you remember when the Omicron uh strain came around and it was from South Africa I think and I remember

43the people from South Africa say it's definitely more mild it's way more mild and even even then parts of the media and Keir Starmer were gearing up for more lockdowns when it gets starmer he loved the lockdown he wanted enough one which did you could set a closet the schools again and you know it would have been an absolute further gouging the economy for no fucking good reason so labour I'm amazed at even mentioning that because labour was sitting there they loved the lockdown I would say overall I mean it's easy to be too divisive about this because you say what the left loved the lockdown but there were a lot of older people that you know were pro lockdown but maybe that was more through self-preservation I think people on the left sort of ideologically so I can just hear a fucking ice-green van near where I live it's 11 a.m. and all the kids of school what the fucking what unless you're just like selling coffees to mums I don't know that's very stereotypical Jeff yeah the mums love a coffee the left loved the lockdown I'm going into full I'm going to a full stereotypical mode and he also said that this

45is a thing started under starmer of reestablishing us on the world stage and I just think it's just simply not true you know like it's certainly in terms of defense Britain led the way on Ukraine when it comes to dealing with the EU and British soon act inertial of on delay and had quite a cordial relationship so I just think that that is that's a bit self-congratulatory and it's bollocks so the first kind of you know fifth 20% of his speech I don't know I don't know how long it went on it might even be Wednesday as I say this because that's how long it felt he spoke about fiscal discipline you know like this government is based on fiscal discipline go is it I mean because well the first things Burnham's done they are cuts for business rates and on VAT but they're not really funded that's not fiscal discipline so on the one hand they're banging on about fiscal discipline on the other hand they're sort of not saying no to anybody that asked for money and he also said something I disagree with where he said he spoke about

46the debt the national debt and he said that there's nothing progressive about spending one pound in every ten so first up I'd agree that we should be looking to reduce the amount of debt interest payments that we are currently covering I would ask Yolk you do is it's very progressive to overspend they love to build that don't they there is absolutely I would say that a progressive if you said to them we're borrowing more money to spend they say good keep going because money's made up anyway we'll pay it but they just don't give a shit you know every wing of politics has things that they do and don't give a shit about I think that when you speak to progressives about you know welfare spending means that we'll have to pay more we'll have to take more debt and pay more interest you can just see their eyes glazing over going I don't give a fuck I just don't give a fuck about this I want to do things that I perceive to be morally kind and but then I start to think who what is the point in him talking I thought that several several junctures during his speech like but what why why this why why now you know because the budgets coming up in a few

48weeks and you wouldn't have thought that any big stuff would be in this and I thought I guess it's him telling us who he is and it was very it was very dour I'm not saying you have to so maybe there you know maybe there's merits in being a dour chance lot but Gordon Brown I suppose had a bit of tub thumping kind of like vision and zeal and Philip Hammond he was pretty boring when he old spreadsheet feel but he kind of lent into that it's early days with his fellow but I guess my point is is if you're doing this is who I am speech I'm introducing myself to the media and a wider audience and you've got to say something arresting or you've got to say something in an arresting way and there was none of that what we did have was devolution again the big plan I was trying to get my head around what he was saying about mayors you know and corridors of growth corridors of power and how it's going to work so one of the things that he said we will give

50local authorities a share of local income tax and and we're going to stop giving them grants and I was kind of thinking so that is that will there still be a base level that they learn because what is their share of local income tax is lower than their grants right are you are you baking in a way of doing cuts without them sounding like cuts are they are they going to be any insurance for them in that I quite likely idea of incentivising people to to drive growth but they didn't sound very labour but maybe you know maybe that's a good thing right and so the devolution is definitely the plan I don't know what the fucking mandate is for this whatsoever because in the election we had only two years ago if you're if you're going to drive a generational change in devolution I know all governments will do things during their time in office which are different from their manifesto but this this feels significantly beyond that and then there was a lot of North-E North stuff you know there was a point where as he was talking I just started saying North-E North North North North North North North and because there was 150 million for

52scale-ups in the North businesses that have started recently that are showing potential so there's an extra 150 million for them and I just I just thought why why is that specific to the North why does that have to be Northern right there's definitely going to be a bias in this government towards the North now they might they might claim that that's because where the growth potential is but when you've got a prime minister you know Andy Boenem I'm from the North yeah I'm very much from the North and it talks about how much he loves the North it's going to be very harmful to escape the accusations of bias and regional bias and I spoke about another thing called Northern 500 which is for a bigger groups of companies it showed potential I think to get beyond a billion or was that unicorns they've got to call it something other than unicorns it just sounds so ridiculous every time politicians talk about the amount of unicorns we have the Northern 500 it did sound like you know like the indie 500 that NASCAR thing it sound like

53are you trying to grow the economy or are you trying to have like a new racing circuit we're going to bring bucks stock car racing and they spoke about Aberdeen I thought that was weird as well they were talking about the fact that they moved the GB news not G well maybe they would move GB news to Aberdeen just to get as far away from them as possible but the the GB energy that they've you know it's going to start in Aberdeen and I just thought if you're from Aberdeen right you know last time I was there that the anger about how they've been cut a drift and you know the effects on the economy of the you know the windfall taxes and no new drilling licenses you know the conservatives won their first buy election there in fucking god oh you know since forever that is a message for how you're perceived in Aberdeen so I don't know if that's them trying to offer something back the other way but it felt like very thin gruel and then we went through a lot of stuff that I don't know I mean I suppose you got to do the boring stuff in your chancellor but a lot of things that are very dry a national well fund if I mean if you're honest probably the time

01to do that was when we found the North Sea oil but you know we move innovation investment jobs domestic capital to domestic British companies I did think life there was ever like a boring slogan for the ages you know imagine that banging the desk as you say that domestic capital for domestic British companies and one thing again that sounded a bit right wing was if they're serious about it great reduced business regulation by 25% by the end of the parliament brilliant but a lot of the regulation that they talk about I mean that this again it is it's rich when this government has already made things harder for businesses if you look at this some of the employment law you know how much it costs to hire people and now we're going to we're going to reduce business regulation why didn't you just not add it in the first place how about uh and with uh AI I mean it's quite funny when he's talking about AI this was literally the some of the weakest speech writing I've heard quite some time because he more or less just described AI you know

02like you know when I was a teacher and somebody finishes the lesson early and they're a bright kid you know like fuck I can't even just sit there yeah do me 500 words describing AI but not using AI but um this this was very much using AI it was like AI is a new thing that it grows fast and it could take jobs but we'll also it could be dangerous but also opportunities but we're going to keep an eye on that honestly mate if you haven't got something significant say about AI just just don't mention it it was it was strikingly weak and you know strikingly weak I would is how I describe this in terms of right I think if you look at what the point of this was some of the content might have been interesting like I didn't hate everything in it but if you go what's the point of this given that the budget's not that far away well they've probably figured it can't be the first time that you know the public are getting to know John Healey right we probably want the public to know how Boranee is first I don't because if he's this boring um during the budget that'll be all people

05talk about but let's get him out there a couple of times let's get the public let's get the public acquainted with uh his boringness because what without last thing that we would like is for him to get a nickname like Boran John I'd like to I'd like to coin that now Boran John Healey you know I'm going to I'm going to do like a really crass nickname you know um like Trump will do you know Chuck the smuck summa sleepy Joe Biden Boran John Healey he might be who knows you might be a decent chaser but my god just a quick reminder about the mailing list and for patrons to be ready on Wednesday it's going to be I've got a new show in development there's the first new live dates for that show it's going to be part of working progress tour so it's not going to be loads and loads of dates it's going to be about 18 to 20 but those are going to drop and you'll have a priority access to them from Wednesday before go on general sale on Friday so go to jeffnaulcott.go.uk go down the mailing list or check my socials where today literally when I finish this I'm going to post and pin my my mailing list thing

10so another wave of nausea okay reformers are you braced because we're going to talk about reform and it's not going to be all complimentary and I know recently you've had a lot of flak and people get upset when this happens but it'll be remiss if I wasn't to talk about the big story at the end of last week so as their reformer having their two-day conference and by the way you know there is some stuff that reformer doing that is quite innovative that I think is good a two-day conference doesn't need to be that fucking long does it you know four days Jesus just you know and also there are a lot of reports of people haven't just walking around a beer in their hand at 10 a.m. all sounds like good fun to me and yes so it broke on first day night that channel four were part of a sting by this group of journalists who it turned out were later linked to a climate type people and they done a long sting which involves senior members at a report party and they were on camera and the

12allegations are they were funneling foreign cash so these reporters they posed as at a wealthy American donor in his son and in the footage that they had for our just close age Dan Jukes and reforms held a policy James or seemed to be suggesting right loopholes to funnel a half a million foreign donation and that is prohibited I've seen a lot of people saying like what this saying is not illegal what they appear to suggest is illegal right and the footage also it showed officials were ranging for these donors to pay an estimated 32 and a half grand for free opinion polls and failing to disclose those and using foreign cash does violate the political parties and referendums like right so first thing that like comes out of that for me 32 and a half grand for free opinion polls was that a piss count this count I'm trying to work at how what would they normally be do you get to an off ground off I don't know I'm an opinion I'm an opinion poll you know just to get in the press what was that about I'm here's quite a lot of money isn't it ten in a big grand I don't

15know I can't do the mess look and before the reformers get annoyed they're not the first party definitely not to be involved in shady donation stuff but they are the party is happening to right now so you've got to talk about and fraud was there and you know they're having a bit of a fancy dinner some people talking about the public won't like the fact that they're having oysters and you know champagne and stuff like that I don't know I don't know if that's the problem look I mean I will come to it later I think that for reform loyalists I don't personally I don't think any of it will be a problem but it's not they're not the problem for reform it's those kind of wavering ex-tories right but forage so what what initially happened was there was quite a confused messaging coming where there was a very defensive reaction from a former first it's a hoax it was loose pub talk that was one of the things that fraud said he said it was loose pub talk I was like I don't know I don't know their loose pub talk would be if you was in a pub with a mate and his partner was there and you mentioned something that happened on the stagdoo and she didn't know right so that's

18loose pub talk this is something slightly bigger than that and and the problem was that they were kind of getting this hoax stuff out and they're out to get us and the sort of defensive reform reaction but meanwhile you know they got rid of these two key figures Dan juke's has been a right-hand man for forage for a long time kind of like a proje of his those people have described as a father-son type relationship and then James or you know he really ideologically in terms of his links in the US is a big feature and then bang they're out and at first it was there sacked Lee Anderson was like no never coming back they're good at that that's enough about it they never coming back and and then it was like they've been stood aside they've been stood down forage said that they were just contractors you know they're a bit more than that Nigel come on and and they're yeah it was sort of tempered over the course of the day so there was this way that they were trying to get the public to perceive it which was that you know they were out to get us but on the other hand you know the way that they reacted like in terms of official party management seems to suggest that they understood the gravitas of it as I say I've an

22Nigel froj he did an interview of Laura Kuhn's book where he got quite irritable at one point it's quite a wide range of interview he wasn't irritable the whole time but he he was talking at cross purposes at one point he said look I'm not a I'm not a compliance officer and then at another point he says nobody knows more about election law than me which is a bit trumping let's be honest nobody knows more and and then at another point he just said I wasn't listening I wasn't listening at that bit and you go but that that's not that that is you know that's not a win is it to say that there were serious things being discussed and that I wasn't listening at that point so you know he's had a you know a defensive reaction to this and it comes at the end of a summer where a lot of people have commented that Nigel doesn't seem his jolly self I fully understand that obviously when one of your high profile supporters has been murdered like that's part of it but he also proceeded that a bit and he revealed something interesting in the chapter of Laura Kuhn's book he said that he said that his family had been literally begging for him to step back from front line politics which I get like you know you got freaked against your life to scrutiny all

26that stuff if you love and care about a family member you probably would want that for them now he said that he's passed that but I think that's a lot of pressure for a man isn't it if you're family if your family really really hate you doing something that is that is a drag emotionally and if you don't if you think like talk about will Nigel still be there in the next election he's a bit premature a bit far fetched well just look at how some of the other reformers the big high profile reformers are acting and Ziyusif did a very snazzy video of who a year is where he comes from you know one of these leadership type videos I mean it was interesting with Ziyusif the way it made me amazing first up that I could get him a time away from the internet like fighting with people and to do a video and it was interesting like he just in the first bit of it it's quite worth watching because I know that they cut to different places but it just looked like he was respawning in a game it's quite funny the first 20 seconds but it was you know it was a well done video and every bit the I could be leader one day video it's got to be an MP first I would imagine

28and then Robert Jenric Robert Jenric Robert Jenric is acting like no one's told him he's not leader like so he's what is he a treasury type spokesperson but the way that he gives the speech is very grand you know he made also made a big announcement Jenric said that they were going to raise the personal income tax threshold to 15 grand which obviously the tax thresholds been frozen for ages they should be going up but it's still that's still quite a big cost you're talking tens of billions for that and they promised you know and it's always the the the way that they're going to fund it is his welfare cuts but they're starting to spend a lot of the welfare cuts that they haven't fully identified how they're going to happen yet Jenric also got in trouble because of these protesters so there was another there was a lot of delays to for ages speech and then when the protests happen I mean they were so annoying I don't care left or right whoever you're heckling from the stage it just I think it only ever serves the purpose of uniting people perhaps behind the person on stage because you're they've got a reason to be there and talk people want

29to hear them talk just standing up and shouting stuff I don't know what the purpose is other than to make yourself feel better and you know forage he he cracked quite a good gag I want to agree to what degree did you do love yeah yeah but sociology in the moment that's pretty funny but then there was these scenes of one of the women getting manhandled she went away I'm like I thought that's not on man you guys whack a woman over the head with a fucking crutch and Jenric tried to do a bit of reform style blaster when I'll boo who you like it first up that's a bit performative it's like you've you've saw what would be a cool thing for me to say that would appeal to the base but like you can both say people shouldn't interrupt people from the stage they should be led out as quickly as possible but that maybe people fucking pulling their hair it's just a whole weird a whole weird scene so you know and it ends what should have been like a really celebratory conference for reform but it wasn't you know it was shrouded like on the ground the activist base there you know they're fully behind Nigel they're fully still on board with the reform movement but well

33remains to be seen you know in the polls how did those because that is the main thing of reform for them to win or be the biggest party or get majority they've got to get and keep disgruntled x toys as well as the new voters they found but that is the main cohort they got to keep and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out and you know in terms of the reform activist base you know they're so they're so into Nigel aren't they they're just not going to hear anything you know it's to them it's not even a big deal they didn't seem to be able to answer the question of so a lot of reports were speaking to you know just activist wandering around the conference center and they were going well it's nothing it's a hoax it's a sham you know it's ridiculous and then they said well why do you think he's sacked two of his closest aides and they just didn't have an answer to it and one of them said I'm funny that maybe fucking spit out my team it was so random they were asking him how to seriously took these allegations around donations and he went oh it's a complete sham of the hugs it's like the whole Bruce Grobel are thing and I thought what you just went back to the mid-90s for a sting on Bruce Grobel on John

34Fashion Week by the way I think the case fell down in court fucking anyone that watched those people played football in the 90s would say that something was going on and so yeah it's it's interesting the activists I don't think any of this shakes their faith in Nigel whatsoever but I think there'll be a lot of interested aides looking at the next set of polls okay that is it from this last minute I mean this was put together last minute so if you think it was shit that I've got my excuse that I'm ill and I'm tired and I'm nearly 50 but yeah it's good to have the chatty took us with two very meaty political things to unpack there so I hope you enjoyed it and then as I say all things being equal we'll have a guest show later this week reviews on Apple podcasts Peter B's Peter B's he says most entertaining political banter just the way I like it thanks yeah that's the point of this podcast what most people think is that there's a way that we like to talk about politics and it's somewhere between actual political discourse and how we talk about football right that is kind of roughly where it is so I hope you're enjoying it

36thank you for the reviews that you leave on Spotify get on that mailing list patreon stand by your beds new show new dates coming soon um
