About this episode
We recently spoke with Jess Jonas, Chief Legal Officer of the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund. Jess shared with us the work the nonprofit is doing to support Bitcoin developers, protect the Bitcoin ecosystem, and ultimately, defend open-source software.
The Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund (BLDF) is a non-profit established in 2021 which helps Bitcoin developers in their fight for the future of open source. Jonas is currently organizing legal support for 13 Bitcoin Core developers across two separate lawsuits brought against them in the UK that have significant implications for Bitcoin and open source software development. Prior to joining the BLDF, Jonas spent more than a decade working at a law firm in NY, and as a senior in-house counsel for crypto and trad-fi organizations including Gemini and American Express.
