清朝時期劉銘傳來台積極發展建設，無意間在河中淘到金沙，引發了台灣近代的淘金熱。
就連日本也對這片寶山虎視眈眈，在被割讓給日本後，日本就將瑞芳、金瓜石與牧丹坑這一帶的金礦區編為金山行政區啦
這裡的資源豐富，曾被喻為小上海呢。
金山也有被掏空的一天，金山這區的金砂一直到民國68才漸漸淘不到金，這裡也因此漸漸沒落啦
