And then came the horror that made headlines: Joe claimed to grind up his victims’ flesh, mix it with pork and beef, and then serve it as barbecue burgers from a roadside food stand. “No one ever complained,” he later bragged. Whether that cannibalistic claim was real or just the twisted boast of a man desperate to be feared, the truth was grim enough: six known victims, and a personality that seemed to feed off pain and suffering.
