Tragically, her parents, members of a fringe religious group in Australia called The Saints, followed a strict, literal interpretation of Christianity and the Bible. They rejected modern medicine in favor of prayer, believing it was the only path to healing for Elizabeth. As a result, this vulnerable little girl—unable to advocate for herself—suffered and died in front of the entire congregation. A room full of adults stood silently, eyes closed in prayer, while refusing to provide Elizabeth the one thing that could have saved her life.
