Otherwise known as the shed in my damn yard. And we have a guest tonight. And men is so boy, we go back pretty good ways. About a few years now.

1:00And a saint he not long ago, we had a dog trial. And he got to tell in a little story about his Kentucky Derby heartbeat race going on because he took them little pecker peels. And that video went viral on every platform so far. So I mean, and I'm for people out there listening right now, they might be a little coarse language here and there, a little cussing. So if you got young ears on there, you might want to let them sit this one out. We do encourage everybody's freedom of speech. And we try to at least give a little warning if we can. So without further ado, we got the legendary North Carolina mountain man, Old Rooster. What's going on, buddy? Just sitting around, listening to the frickets and the bugs, cat or long. I've been long coming to house and feeding dogs. Yeah, and you got your yard full of them, huh?

2:00I've got a pass in the little bastards now. I think so. You didn't get back into them. Terry was pretty heavy ain't she? Yeah. And you know, I'm going to be honest with you. I've always food with a dog, some kind. You know, I mean, I feel child bagels. I've run fox dogs. Well, fox hounds, but I run them on cows, fire dogs, hog dogs, they peen. You name it. And I've always got the big, loud, hard, green dog. But now I'm just going to tell you, if you can't have fun with a Terry, you just need to stay on the porch or just go get into them hotlills or something. I don't know, but these Terry are just the last man. And no, I am, I am relatively new to the Terry as far as Terry. Now, I had them cry. You know, a couple of years ago when I was a little bit of a rebel, we won't get into that. But I'm just telling you, I don't believe there is a more versatile dog than a jagged

3:03area. They'll. Yeah, they are. They're definitely something. You know, I've had them for going on 20 years, I guess, now. I have no complaints. There's plenty of times where I wish I just kept them and didn't have nothing else. But, you know, I like fun with a hands now. I ain't nothing wrong with a loud mouth dog, you know. I don't get me wrong. I mean, I, you know, my pastime as long as I can remember has always been kind of, you know what I mean? What, tell us, tell us about, let's, let's back up. Let's get into that. Let's go into, you know, where are you from? Where was your born and raised at? How old are you? Or if you won't tell anybody that and then, you know, how did you get into the hunting, were you raised in it? Your grandpa gets you into it, you know, tell some of that and what you started out with. So, I live in Silver North Carolina roughly 20 minutes from the Cherokee Indian Reservation.

4:11And I moved to North Carolina in 1998 when my mom and brother got murdered. I was born in Gangsville, Georgia and I lived in a Banks County until 1998. Moved up here in 1998, November of 1998. And you know, my mom and sister, my aunt, you know, she had some kids and Ricky is my cousin. He's a few years older than me. And they always had a pass of love out, you know. And I'd been up here. I don't know. Two or three weeks, I don't know. And I wanted to spend the night with Ricky, you know, I was just little. And they said, yeah, yeah, you can stay, you know, whatever. So, and then that night, now, they said, you want to go to Canada? And I said, well, I mean, I didn't know what the hell came to us. I was from basically the city, you know, what I mean, everybody there, deer hunted.

5:13That's, you know. But at that time in my life, when I was at your little, I didn't know nothing about, I didn't know nothing about fishing hunting or nothing. I know about, with hot wheels and that's about going. And I remember to this day, he had a, his favorite breed of dogs that this day is Red Bones. And he had a male and a female, little mate. And obviously everybody in the country knows what these two dogs names were. Old Dan and little ain't. Mm-hmm. And I remember it was cold. God, it was cold. I mean, I come from Georgia and I'm up in the mountains and I froze to death like. I fell asleep four or five times and I had a blast. And I believe if I'm not mistaken, we know how to tell you now that I know what a dog is versus those dogs. Am I going to tell you they were came dogs? Now, I mean, they wasn't my style of dog dogs that I know what a good dog is. But they trade games. And it just laid from back basically. So that was around 90.

6:14That was probably December, January of 98. And a little long later, you know, a couple of maybe a month or two months or hell, I don't know. I went a couple more times, you know, but I didn't really get my first dog that was nine. Until I was probably, my dad died in 2004 when I was 15. I got my first dog. When I was about 16, 15 or 16, I got it. I got him from Arnie Steadway and Kelly Steadway of Liberty, South Carolina. He was a red dick dog. And I guess that's where my passion for red dick anguish dogs came from. They was anguish men and they give me that dog that dogs name was. I remember what it was in 1990, my name is three, three talc in the rail. And he was, he was a mere image of what an anguish red dick dog was supposed to look like, you know, just covered in ticks, open marks where he's supposed to be just a beautiful dog.

7:15He was a puppy. He was about seven months old, but he was some as hell. And I got him to go and I mean, I, I, I'd drug him around with, with my pap I was my glide. And by myself, I'd just walk him around in the middle of the night, you know, young that know what I was doing. And then he'd start running and giving me out and he'd start treing some tries. He started treing some tries and policy. Well, I didn't care what he'd treat. I'd go for an knock it out. Well, a few nights went by and I was bragging on that old dog. And I told my mama that I was going to go and she said, well, whatever, you know, I was pretty, I had, you know, I grew up kind of rough. We won't get into that, but I didn't really have no curfews, you know, be home in the street like I'm on top of you. I didn't have none of that. So I remembered, I went, I turned loose on the branch, it's above my house.

8:19And it's nothing but laurel pads, laurel thickets and it's, you know, just straight up. And I turned him loose and he was, he literally was out my lead. 40 seconds and he shrugged bigger than hell and I said, good God. Before I got excited, well, he, he run around for the third, he finally treed. And he treed on the big persimmon tree. And at this time, at that time, I didn't know what a damn persimmon tree was. Just a tree to me. But I get there and I take it on my glot and there's my, there's my mama's, him and lane cat set. Oh, well. I said, well now this sunbist done a really fine job. No, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. So I probably wasn't 200 yards from the house. So I run back down the branch. And he's standing up and just flowing the top out of that tree. And I run back to the house and I got half of it going. And I run back up and then I can't play the game.

9:19Now, I know if I shoot this cat out and my mama finds out she's going to beat the I'm gonna take a lot of me. And then I got to think, well, my mom has had knee surgery. She can't really run too fast. So I just, I let that damn little point here I'll eat and outcome to damn cat. And that red ticked out and that damn house cat. They fought goddamn all up down that creek. Because I was young. I mean, I didn't know where to shoot them things or nothing. You know, so I, and I just started one time and it jumped out. I was not too intelligent. I didn't like too smart now. But I took for them playing and I laid it on top of the dog house. Besides where I tied Ralph and my mom and woke up. Did you see that house cat laid up first? Let's just, let's just say all Ralph didn't get, get turned loose for a little while. Yeah, I heard that. Well, then I, then I, you know, I kind of, I got tied in with another old man and he, and he was a dog.

10:20I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not going to say his name, but he's really popular around here. He no longer is able or, you know, he's got needs. He don't got. I will say this. This man. Well, well, this is armed in a car or a log and a, one of the things and drove a straight back forward. I'm going to say, you know, he's got a straight back forward. I'm going to say, you know, he loves to drive on. Okay. He loves to, in a car, or a log and accident, one of the two, but he loves to drive on, and drive on, and drive a straight, drive like that, and hard on how they go. I'm sure. And, yeah, but now you have to watch this old man. He, he had some, he had some real hands. But now they're more trade dogs, you know, you know, that was back when I was, you know, I was like, you get into the rooster business. So, and say, well, you know, you come up here, I'd trade him to a three-oh-bug dog,

11:21for a damn cent or 15-oh roosters, he had run, run, run, run. We just prayed back forward, I bet I went to a three-hundred dogs, and, and that's where my, that's, that's pretty much the, the route of it right there. And, then, I was invited to go back. Mm-hmm. I said, well, I, I don't want my dog to get killed. Get that, you know what I mean? I kind of felt like a little boy on the red firm grows. I mean, I, I kind of like, no, though. Mm-hmm. Well, it's your, no. There was one, everyone run right in front of us, right across the road, and all around, run that head out, and I mean, he was shaking the box. So, now, remember, they said, you're going to turning loose, and I said, I don't know. They said, you're going to make nothing in the dog box. Well, I got out and I was turning loose pretty much face packing. And he went across the hill there, out of sight with the rest of the dogs,

12:21and, probably an hour later, now, this was before a dormant. This was beat beat day. Mm-hmm. And, I'm going to say, well, I don't know. I don't know. I'm also, I don't even know, 2005, 60s, summers around the town. Or, other, my husband may have been gone, but not really gone, it's happened really hit me, mounted yet. 13:28And, who I was just excited. And, we got about 60 yards of them and who I was getting pumped. Because I just know my red pick that was at that tree. And, we got that tree, my red pick that was not at that tree. Hmm. You know, if we tied dogs back, they dealt with the buyer. And then, then the hunt went around and in the place. And, obviously, no going. You can't, you can't reach race track, basically. So you just have to kind of guess. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. And, I literally just, was stuffed and they said, just walk up on that red drive there. And just listen. Well, I walked up on that red. And, literally got up there and behind the door, but it started late. And it looked like he had just.

14:28We're really that buyer. I don't know. I guess he's trying to build out that. I'll get fucking buyer. I don't know. But, that was the end of the route. Damn. And, he was probably 15 or 16 months old. And he was making, I mean, I think he was going to make an A1, Ken though. That was the first fire. He never said anything. And obviously, the demolition. Hmm. But, that's the way it goes with any game. You know, anything, you know, how the buyers, you know, or even their, even their hundreds. Yeah. Turn it out. That's the last time you get to turn him loose. That's the fact. That's the fact. Uh, that, that can. I don't know. I'm trying to start for this and get involved with some more in debt. I get you calling me in debt. You know, family. Uh, because I'm not going to lie to you. Say the whole bunch of people here. And I'm sure they know where you're at. Now, the country.

15:28They've got a dog box. And they've got shit. They've got dog box. What about their buyer owner? But I got shit in the box. Of course, the day. That's right. And I started getting involved with some more in debt people. And. Then, you know, several years went by. I went to a few old mouths, but I really had a turn down, you know, for say. And. Well, there's an old man here. And he, he's what I call about. Traders, but now he don't, he don't have no junk. Or say like the thing tells you something about it. That. The. And he told many said, son, I want you to come try this dog. He said, I think you're lucky. Well, now I'll just give you a little big deal on this man. This man had to be 100% signed. 100%. He didn't want to hear that sunbitch nowhere unless it was free. Well, I go get this dog now. You, you just sit back and listen and think real hard.

16:29And you'll know this dog. I already did. I already did. I believe. I went and picked up a big, pretty open spot in black and white English. Yeah, yeah, I know the dog. And this dog, this dog's name was Jack. Mm hmm. I said, what's he's following? And he said, well, I like him silent. And he's not silent enough for me. Well, in my opinion, I run a ham because I want to hear him. I don't know. You know, people run a Jake breaking a truck because they want to hear that dance and playing. Mm hmm. Well, I go get him and I take him and man another buddy of two. I said, hell, I'll go with you. I'm going to try this old dog out. And that night, I tried three singles with that black night dog. And then other boys, I was never, never barked at the lick. They made two, a timer, two, but they didn't, they didn't run no track. But I thought I might have had something.

17:29Well, a couple days went by, I know, but Calvin said, hey, I like him. And I'm, pretty good. Maybe I'll long for a short, I can continue hunting itself, and getting hunting itself. And the second season I had this dog, that time I knocked out, like, like, 77, and that's, you know, that's a lot of things in the mountains of North Carolina. Oh, yeah. And that's not doubles, that's not doubles. That's that's single came. And, we was, me and my cousin, my little cousin, we was headed to Cangron. And I had two or three little pups in the box, and I had old jacks in the box. And we stopped the gas station, and I run into a feather, that had to have a, a shirt, own, and the shirt either said, siloed kennels, or it might have said, just like, keeping it. Well, I was intrigued. I didn't know what the hell a baby pin was. And, we got the dog in a,

18:30and he said, why don't you bring an old raggedy ass kennel down here and see how they're doing the house? Well, a lot of people listening for a member when I was being dialed, I run under the 19 raggedy, and that's where that come from. And, literally, I had a million, millions of dollars of fun going to the baby. And with that black nightclub, of course, I took a few other dollars at times. But that black nightclub, I'm not bragging, but I placed a one-ever hand class that I ever put him in. But you could not pull that thing on a big game track to save your life. You wouldn't have been one. I won, I won the National White House Association, big game night, since I won the, the bar in the hall by in the, with him. But now you, you could turn a hall glistening, turn it in, he,

19:30by it, and I'll day lounge. You take him in the woods, and face back in red, heartbar, track here, the right, I don't tell him to come to the pre-year kennel. Come down. He was an absolute kennel, I'm telling you, there were so many people in the building industry that tried by him, and I might say, that's my kennel, I, no, I just, this is just fun for me, you know, I don't ask me why this doubt is, literally, the straightest, trashy doubt I've ever had. And I mean, there was, there was, I don't think you could have, you could have not made that doubt, done anything, but a kennel, he was solid. Well, I lied, I was, so my first handheld experiment was not the 320, now, what was the gray one? The 220? All right. The one after that was a 320, right? Yeah, the 220, the 320, yeah. 320 was orange and black.

20:30Yeah, all right. So I had a 320, all right. And, that old black white bow, I'm sitting here looking at a picture of a, a VM, and I had a walker bitch that I named Oliver. And then two dollars was cut. I'm just kidding. But now, he had one fault, but I fixed him of that fault. If that sunbitch came across his gun, he'd run it and he'd catch it. Well, that out, changed when that old alpha come out. Yeah. And I made him, I made him stand on his fucking 50, because one night, and he, he never, and then I'm just, I'm going to say more than no more. I've never done anything else. I can take what you like, bitch. He didn't like this shit. No, no, but, and then I had my running, you know, I had my running, you know, it's a baby pin.

21:30And that come to an end. And, you know, since, you know, I've, I've always filled with the dials. I've always had to, you know, bull dialed, you know, cut spoiled dials. I mean, so you was, you know, you used competition squirrel hunt. When you, for a while, I, I was hunting for a fellow yesterday. And those were, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now get me wrong. Marty, Marty, Marty, Marty, I was just, as a dynamite, and if you're ever meeting it in the world. You know, 20,000 dollar paychecks, trucks, side by side, just like came hunting, but I damn squirrel. Yeah. And I, and I had a privilege and opportunity to hunt some dogs, and you know, and it, it was, I guess you would say shortly, but not, not a father of me,

22:30or a mother of me, and I would explain why. I live in this rough as hell. Here, rough. All right. There's rough places now, I've been with the rough places you can tuck you. But where I live is just, I mean, it's just rough. Mm-hmm. My name is Sample. And when, you know, when I was, when I was hunting in competition dogs, and squirrel dogs, sometimes it takes me, it takes me longer than it needed to take me to get there. And plus, we just really don't got the, we don't got the squirrel population. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. All the squirrels here are in somebody's yard on their bird feet, or not back on the ganglion. And, and I just, it was just, it just wasn't working out at that max. You know what I mean? No. No. No, no, no issues. And I like that. You just, you know, what the population of squirrels, like we, it's like a native, and the terrain is just too rough, really. Mm-hmm. And, that kind of, you know, man, Marty, we still talk about, we still talk about, about six times a week. Uh,

23:31but, yeah, I'm actually sitting here looking at, at an award that I won, and, you may have been there, uh, at Mark's Bennister, say, and, and Hit the Colossus. Uh, I won the Sportsman Award, and I've got trophies and flags everywhere, but that one is, by far, trouble with my all-time favorite. Yeah, that, I don't, I don't, I don't know, it hits you a little different, I guess. I got, I won one, a few years ago, out there, same place, and it just, I don't know, it just, like you said, I treasure it more than I do any of them. Yeah, that was the 2018 Cheri Band of Memorial, and I won the Sportsman Award there in the hat, and, I mean, I've got, I've got Roaster Trollies and Bapel Trollies and, it came hunting, and, you know, plot trophies, now I'm not a plot man, but, you know, from plot events. Yeah,

24:31but, that, that Sportsman Award was probably, to this day, my favorite thousand trophy that I've ever won. It just meant a lot to me, because I was such a newcomer in the that world of the Bapel P.N. and, you know, everybody just kind of took me, took me in, and just made me feel at home, and I, I don't know, I guess my personality and everything just kind of helped. I mean, when, I was thankful in Lord, I just, I really liked that trophy. That probably was going to be, I don't know if I'll ever win another trophy, or anything that will make as much as that one. There you go. So, you said you were, you know, meant to a lot of the plot events, and where you live at, you're in, you're in plot country. Absolutely. I mean, 100%. Why are you not, what, what's the deal with the plot? What do you, what do you not like about them that keeps you from, from having plots, or in the past, or even in the future? What,

25:31what, what's the deal with them? What don't you like? Uh oh, hold on, like, she was happy. I guess we, I guess a lot of us will never go. Hey, I got you back. You there? Damn housewender. Oh, okay, sorry. Yeah, I got my time in the winter. Okay. Now, why you get some good service? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just bumped it. It was, it was on the ass, it was on the ass dog humor. I got you. Well, but I don't know. Did you hear what I was saying about the plot? Well, I'm not a plot man. Yeah. Yeah. That's it. What, what's the deal? Well, uh, so, I've been around with him. I mean, I've got some good buddies. It's that hard plot man. I mean, I, it's kind of, all right.

26:31So, there's my deal in it with, you know, there's good bad and anything. That a whole lot of cameras, while there's, but there's good and bad. And I love them. Yeah, but there's there's two things about a full plot. Now, there's probably going to be people that rape me, rape me, the deaths. About this coming. All right. Well, I personally is just I just think they put them rough when they don't necessarily need to be that rough in certain scenarios. And then the next one now again I'm going to be I'm going to be beat up on this at least where I'm from I'm not saying a plot and I'm worth a bet. Now that's that I'm not saying there's not plot dogs after that can't three can but me personally I've never seen one consistent enough that I personally like and I and I mean joy I'll just tell you if I'm gonna feed it I want it to look 30 and I just don't think I've

I may not just but I don't like red bones and I don't like black and tan not saying they're not good ones out there I just personally don't like those to me all right to me a plot of black and tan and a red bone you can take 20 red bones and line them up aside if they ever done one that's just a lot same thing with a plot and a black and tan I mean but they're just not for me now I have one who put some red bone gum bars phenomenal dog there's a guy locally that's got some black dogs and black and tans and they catch me and everybody around here that's lots I mean lots of walkers names that are primarily the three breeds around here you know I'm not a plot man but I've been a member of every hand

28:42association that there is at one point it's the time I was a man for the red bone association the blue pig black and tan and so on and so on and I've got I've got every like ever published really and I guess I really keep those just because I like reading them all my stores you know not just necessarily looking at them all plot you know I mean like I say I'm not I'm not down in the plot I feel better to plot you know but I just I'm not a plot man as matter of fact that's out of T shirt that I wear a lot that is from the APA the matter of fact Gary Bowen brought it for me at the bay in one time I don't have nothing against them I just they're not they're not my they're not my dog and I mean there ain't nothing wrong with that you know that I hear people you know and and I talk a little trash here and they're going to look if if I find a good plot I promise

29:49you I'm gonna feed you but it's got to be what I want no matter if it's a plot hound a walker dog red tick blue tick whatever like you said that doesn't mean you know there there's certain reasons why I don't gravitate toward that particular breed my reason is there two rub for for where I hunt what I'm doing if I want rough dogs like it I'll run some bird bulls and a pack of jags you know and we'll get it done but at the same time I'm not going to fault the man because he likes plots and he enjoys them and if he loves them I love them you know no problem hey if he speaks them that's all that matters that's if he's happy with the man look it and and here's the thing they don't have to they don't have to please me at all not one single bit they could be the sorry I made some dogs you ever seen in your life just like most plots you know and blue tick no blue ticks Pat said blue ticks are are possum dogs they got to possum swangers oh bootex yeah old bootex

30:56and bootex you bring them to your part of the country they won't that good possums but I'm gonna get that poor tail possum hey I'm telling you I got old bootex out there right now I see you get it but I bred her to a walker dog make me some crosses yeah run it a run a walker dog hey hey now now listen I like no I love a good run now and I had some and I traded I got this little card I'll from a fella and this dog was both three squirrels in the daylight and three cams at night this dog was bred better than it was bred better than anything I mean this dog was top-notch bred all right and uh and at that time I didn't really know much about the curb breeding and uh this was back there in my baby day and uh well I got a little curve how I

32:00took him to oral hunting and how I could say never met a tree chicken came hunting and uh I took him with the black white dog I wanted to test these all because I knew I had a came dog you know what I mean that's right and uh I took him and uh the black white dog in the curved oak slia I took him to the dairy farm it's right down below the house and uh I checked my garment and that damn curl was standing in the bucket row well my black white dog he crawled he peeked the top and sat down the tree well I knew he would be thus so I went back down towards the road I was the fence got back down there I'm gonna try to at least catch this third of all that stuff it seemed my head like on my king life and he hit that black top and I mean he was like grease lightning coming up the road well me and the old girl I was taking with me

33:01you that for no life she was up for trying to cope to come if I be come if I be I said fuck that sorry son of a bitch and she said why I said hand me that fucking shotgun I'll get my coat or be fuck it up well I will every was I spent your fix and the kill that son of a bitch um well she said don't do that don't do that she said let's just catch him and he tried him out I said if we take catch him where he my for that three hours we finally cast the car dog put in the box took my car out of you and uh a couple days later another dog better now he is a dog better torn up he cowbys it's son I've got just what you need I've got four of the best cowbbs you'd ever say now 90% of the time you can't believe the damn thing he says about a dog I said well I've just got what you need he said what's that not saying about the car he said yeah

34:02I'll take you the car dog for the bull running dog I said all right get necessarily made for more dogs I had that way of already but I went and got him he told me he said you can't take this red male to the cost being over there as I said they've done banding I said well they might have banned you with him but they don't know who the hell I am with you or not I go over there and I worked that with the man to down the pan and I got Wednesday nights I'd get out work I'd go over there and I'd turn my dogs loose I listen to them until about nine thirty ten a.m. and then I'd come home and go to bed and then the girl I was with she was she get off she goes learn load them up bring them home I about three or four weeks later the man asked me if my dog has been catching cows and I told him the truth I said hell I don't know I said the last time I seen my dogs they had that black cow going through the field out there and I mean they were straight in its eyes across the guy well

35:07long story short they banned the red dog again and they said they told me they said that red dog looks like he comes from such a such a no no they said yeah yeah I said how you know he said son you ain't never took his number out of it well hell I didn't know nothing about taking no numbers out no dogs I didn't know how to put a number on it but well anyhow I ended up I ended up after that you know pretty much just getting rid of the fox now but I had a lot of fun with him I mean a lot of fun with him and if I if I could if I had some right now if you can't run to you here legally but I'm telling you Joey I drive around every night and if I seen a dog in your yard I don't give it that the jury or Donald Trump yard I would pack right into yard and just sit back and listen I have to try to get some pictures of myself north of your line if I had some bucks out there but I don't I don't make that I've got these carriers and I've got some big plans

36:12with these carriers hopefully so how did you start out in those carriers tell tell us about that well currently or in general in general how did what was your first ones that you know how did you get started you told me a story about one of them and a groundhog you get get get get into that story after you tell us that by the fire department I don't know if I can remember I'll have it in the house so I was at the back then I think my first thing health is for free and I seen you anytime and maybe a couple of other people dragging around these little black and ten more he had little look at you guys I'm like what the fuck are they and if I'm not mistaken it's you or Cory right I mean Cory Watson said they're just they're both so you just sit back and watch

38:20and all that so I just pretty much had her as a ride around catch game just whatever and low on behold from what I gathered that female was fairly good breath all right and a local man that lives here you know what I'm talking about he had a he had the ugliest and he still the ugliest but the carrier I've ever seen his name was Oscar and and and and we and I I knew of this man prior to my carrier but I said hey I want to raise some puppies nice and we'll sign you just bring her on a period we raised we the breeder and she had five puppies raised all of them we won't get into that because there was a bunch of controversy about the carrier association and all that but nonetheless they were good little dogs that was my first experience with them and why I got into them I just at that time they would just throw a little nice at me and you know then some years went by
