Ep 192 - Back At It and Hanging On

0:00Hello and welcome to episode 192 of the Bruins Fastcast. It's going to be kind of a catch-up episode. I did do a Olympics episode last week, but I didn't really catch up on my Bruins news, so this one's going to date back to January 24th. I'm going to kind of zip through it quickly. The Bruins are rolling and had a great month of January, so that's how far behind I am. Can they keep it going? Let's find out. First up, January 24th, Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins, original six rivalry. Jeremy Swamin was in first period, Montreal opened the scoring call, Coffield from Matheson Evans at 636. One nothing halves after one. Bruins would answer early in the second, Victor Arvitzin is 12th on the power play from Mitten and Middlestat to make it 11. Coffield would score again on the power play from Suzuki and Slav Coffs, whatever his name is, Slav Coffske. To make it 2-1, Montreal at 737, Bruins would answer that one back. Morgan Geeky has 27th on the power play from Passnack and McVoy at 946-22,

1:02and to complete an eventful period, Coffield got his third of the game from Suzuki and Hudson again on the power play at 1329. It was 3-2, Montreal after 2. Go to the third, Frazier Mitten would tie it up for the Bruins at 13-55 from Lindholm and McVoy, a nice backhand or by Mitten. It is 3-3, and that was quickly followed by Morgan Geeky at 14-07 on the power play from McVoy and Zacka, a hard shot by Geeky. No one was sure the puck would even win in. Geeky pointed and all the replay shows it was a good goal, and that's it. Bruins would win 4-3. Carpicello was great, 22-25 saves for the win. Geeky 2 goals, McVoy 3 assists, Mitten 1 goal, 1 assists, shots were 25-24, Montreal. The Bruins were 3-4 on the power play, so that's how you win a hockey game. Next up, January 26, Bruins at New York Rangers. Carpicello got to start again. First period, Will Coil, his 12th from back in Einen and Labba at 9-45

2:08open the scoring in the game, 1-0 Rangers. Bruins were tied at 12-09. Lys Lindholm, his 16th on the power, sorry, it wasn't on the power play. From Passenak, I believe that was his 10th, I wrote that wrong. So only 10 for Lys, but he did get to double digits. The Rangers would pull ahead, though, for the end of the period at 12-35, just a few seconds after the Bruins scored, JT Miller is 14th from Perot, and Zimindia Jait, so it was 2-1 Rangers after 1. In the second period, Bruins were tied up fairly early, 3-18. Lys Lindholm, his 11th from Passenak and McVoy. Multi-goal game for Lys, so that's great to see. Bruins would take the lead at 52 of the period. Morgan Gigi is 29th from Passenak and Laura. Gigi is back on fire, which is great to see. 3-2 Bruins after 2. Third period, the Rangers would tie it up. We'll Morgan, his third from Panarin and Lafernir at 13-43, and we are tied 3-3 after regulation,

3:10so we head to overtime. Where the Bruins would lose this one, Matthew Robinson, his 4th from Quick and Trochec at 3-53. I noticed the goal, he seemed to be getting a lot of cyst on the overtime, goes now, and it's pretty obvious why. They kind of pass it up to the open guy in the wing, and they go into on one kind of thing. Bruins was an overtime, still got a point, though. Passed, I had 3 assists. Carpisala was 24 of 28 saves for low T-loss. Passed it with the third assist, reached the 900 point, Mark, so congratulations to David Passenak. Next game would be January 27th. National Predators in town to visit the Bruins. Swaman was the starter for this one. First period, Bruins would open the scoring, Hampe's Linhome, his 4th from Lorai and Minton at 13-16, and it would be one nothing Bruins after one. In the second, Morgan Gigi got his 30th, good for him. From Passenak and Aspero at 248, second straight, 30 goal season with the Bruins for Gigi.

4:17Passed it with a point to remain on fire. The Predators, however, would get one back. Roman Josie, his 9th from O'Reilly and Stamp goes at 1925, just before the end of the period. 2-1 Bruins after 2, 3rd period. Nick Blankenberg, his 6th for Nashville, from Willsby and Evangelista at 13-17, and we are tied at 2 after regulation. We go to overtime. David Passenak was the hero for Boston, it's 1-15 seconds in. It was a goal that was replayed many times. It was just a nice tip in. Bruins, winter and overtime, McAvoy and Kushner, enough got the assist, and that was the 22nd of the year for Passenak. Big overtime win for the Bruins. Passed a 1-1 goal, one assist. Swaman 28 at a 30 saves for the win. Boston improves to 31-23 for 65 points, and they were six up on the wildcard at this point. Next up, January 29th, 26 fliers at the Bruins. Jeremy Swaman was in. Matthew Poitre was called up to replace the injured Elias Lindholm, so good to see Poitre

First period, Victor Arvitson, hoping the scoring for the Bruins seems to be getting on the board a lot lately, from Middlestad to Minton at 9.49, and then less than a minute later. Pavel Zaka, his 15th from Geekian Aspero at 10.30, Bruins up to nothing after one period. Second period, Frazier Minton, put the Bruins up three to one. His 14th from Middlestad at 227. Minton is having a good run this year, and Toronto fans are fuming. Travis Kineckney would get the fliers on the board. His 21st from Devorak at 316, but Middlestad at 1612, and Tanner Genoa at 1840. Middlestad's 11th and Genoa's 6th. Peaky had to assist some of those goals, or Peaksory, and Bruins were up big in this one. Nikita Grubbenkin, I guess it is. Got his fourth from Kineckney at 1905, and the Bruins were ahead of five to two after two. In the third period,

6:23Marat Kuznetonov got one into the empty net at 1630, put the Bruins up for good. Matt V. Mitch Koff would answer for the fliers on the power plate late at 1819, but it was too little too late. That's it. Bruins win 6 to 3. Swaven was the third star of the game, 33 at a 36 stage for the win. Midden and Middlestad, one goal to assist each. Aspero and Peak to assist each. Pasta was held pointless, which was weird. Bruins were up eight points on the wildcard at this point. 32, 20, and 3 for 67 points, and they were also tied for third in the Atlantic. It's hard to gain when all the other teams seem to be winning too, but we'll see if they can keep it up. Next up was the big game, 2026 stadium series game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the NFL. Tampa Bay Lightning versus Boston Bruins, of course, 64,000 fans on hand for this one. Bruins stressed up like American Patriots for the pre-game.

7:23Swaven was in goal, both at Iceland and Osaka were out for this one. Tampa would open the scoring at 11 seconds, Brandon Hagel is 26th from Kutcheroff and Raddish, but the Bruins would go on a bit of a run. Alex Steve's at 1124 from Isomot, and then at 1536, Morgan Gigi is 31st from McAvoyant Asperot, a nice tip in by Gigi, and then Victor Arbson is 14th on the power play from McAvoyant and Gigi. It was 3-1 Boston after one. Bruins seemed in control. Second period, Bruins would continue the onslaught portrait. It's his first of the year in the NHL from Castolic at 222. And Morgan Gigi is 30 second from Passenak, Kutchernaut enough at 18, but the Bruins up 5-1. But at this point, everything would go to hell. At 9-07, McAvoyant was called for roughing. Marcus Stelik was called for roughing as well. No Tampa Bay call on that play. It was one of those

8:24shoving things. Tampa Bay scored at 1028 leading to the penalty. Oliver Bjurkstra and his 8th on the power play from Hageland Gunsle. Then at 11-01, Jeremy Swamon had him to a goalie fight if you can believe it with Andre Vasileski. It was a pretty good tilt. Swamon's kind of been looking for that for a long time, so I was glad he got it, but kind of heard us a little bit momentum-wise, I think. McAvoyant got an extra penalty there, so short-handed again, that's what I'm saying. Then at 1403, Swamon got a delay of game penalty. At 14-16, Tanner Jannak and Interference. Then at 15-45, Kerali closing hand on the puck. There was a lengthy 5-1-3 for Tampa. It just almost seemed like the referee just had it open for his second. I hate to say that, but they did radish on his 16th on the power play from Kutcheroff. Then Nick Paul, his 6th on the power play from Gunsle and Kutcheroff at 16-13. Unbelievable, bad officiating game. He was getting frustrating and it was 5-4 for the

9:29Bruins after two. Tampa would get the only goal of a third. Nicky to Kutcheroff from McDonough and Sternak at 1150. The game unbelievably is tied at 5-5 and we're going to overtime. Bruins blew a 5-1 lead if you can believe it. Over time, there was no scoring, but the Bruins got two penalties and overtime and killed them both off. Seven straight power plays in the game for Tampa, which is unbelievable. Tampa ends up winning, though. Gunsle scores the shootout winner. Unbelievably, bad finish to this game for Boston. Like I said, they had a 5-1 lead. Just a lot of bad penalties and horrible officiating. The combination of the both, for sure. The shots were 46-34 for Tampa, but again, they were on the power play for most of the second period. Giki, two goals, one assist, McAvoy, two assists. Swam in 41 out of 46 and had nine penalty minutes. That was crazy. We go to Wednesday, February the 4th. I'm catching up here, guys. Bruins at Florida Panthers. Florida opened the scoring loose to Ryan at 4-22, making one nothing.

10:31Then Mikey Isomak got two in a row his seventh and eighth at 7-18 and 12-43 respectively. Two in one, Bruins after one. Florida would then score three times in third. The Leagues kiss Matthew to Chuck and Lundell. Short handed. The first two Florida goals in the period were power plays. So it was 4-2, Florida after two. Bruins would put on a big Russian. The third though, Marcus Delic at his night at 7-52 from McAvoy and Hampus-Linhome. And then Casey Middlestat got his 12th at 10-30 on the power play. Bruins tied it up and we went to overtime. No scoring in overtime. Bram are Sean got the winner though in the shootout, which is kind of sucks. Corpus Sala 22 out of 26 saves in the loss. The record was at 32-20 and 5 for 69 points at that point. We're still in the wild care position. So then we had the Olympic break and the Bruins came back on February 26 against Columbus Blue Jackets in Boston. Swam was

11:37out. D.P. Etcher was back up for Juneus Corpus Sala. McAvoy was in after winning the gold medal at the Olympics. Charlie Coil made his return to Boston as a Blue Jacket. He got a little tribute. First period. Columbus gets on the board first. Correll Marchenko is 20th from Marchant and Fantilly at 4-32. Bruins would tie it though. Victor Arvinson always on the board lately. 15th of the season from Asprout, 15-51. Sank period. Morgan Gigi got his 33rd on the power play from Pasta and Elias Lenoma at 6-43. Great shot. 2-1 Bruins after 2. And the third. Caralli scored at 11-15 to make a 3-1 Bruins. Fantilly scored at 14 minutes to to make a 3-2 Bruins. Sorry. And then Arvinson again in scores again,

12:37late in the game and empty net or McAvoy middle set. This is two for Arvinson this game. Bruins went 4-2. Corpus Sala was great and nets 36 out of 38 days for the win. D.P. Etro, Septim briefly, and Corpus Sala was evaluated for concussion protocols. D.P. Etro played 6-03 and made 2 out of 2 saves. Bruins were 1 for 3 on the power play. McAvoy played 23 minutes and 55 seconds after being in the Olympics and winning the goal metal. Bruins now 4 points up in the wild car. 71 points. Next up was Saturday, February 28th at the Flyers. Swaman was in goal. Bruins lost at 1-3-1. Not much to talk about. They were shot at 27-17. Swaman was 14-16 in the loss. McAvoy had the goal for the Bruins. Finally, we're going to go to Tuesday, March 3rd. Pittsburgh Payments at Bruins. Swaman was in again. First period, Carlson opened the scoring for the penguins from Rust at 42 seconds. Cushen it enough. Got a 13th to tie it up from Izamut at 5-10. Middle set then made it 2-1.

13:43From Zajora from Zaka at 6 minutes. That would be it for the game, folks. No scoring in the second. No scoring in the third. Bruins held off the penguins to win. 2-1. Swaman was great. First start of the game. 34 out of 35 saves for the win. Bruins go to 34, 21 and 5 for 73 points. They are 3 points up on the wild car. I am caught up. That's going to be it for this week.
