On April 17, an elderly couple from Halifax got eight weeks in jail for a racist attack on a Filipino nurse in a park last summer. Fiona Barristo, 72, and her husband Michael, 77, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault after their off-leash dog barked at. The nurse's kid, the trouble started on August 28, around 120 p.m. in Manor Heath Park, when nurse Apple Morehouse told them to leash their dog. Things escalated fast with vile slurs like telling her to go back to her dinghy, mocking her accent, and even physical grabs in a thrown water bowl. In court at Bradford magistrates, the judge called them out hard, saying their deep-rooted hate made her sick and they should feel ashamed. The video of the whole ugly scene went viral, putting their behavior on blast nationwide. Ms. Morehouse, a British citizen who's lived here since 2009 and works for the NHS, said she feared for her life, now carries a panic, button, and even paused her healthcare job from the trauma.

Another woman who stepped in got punched too. The couple must pay 175 lbs each to Ms. Morehouse plus 100 more from Michael to the intervener. She hopes this sends a strong signal that racism won't fly, no matter your age, and we're all equal under the law.
