EF-Zero Tornado Touches Down in Alabama

0:00This is Cory, and here's what is making news across Birmingham right now. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Western Jefferson County, Alabama during severe storms on the evening of March 9th. This week, but real Twister marked the main event as thunderstorms pushed southeast across Central Alabama. Survey showed the tornado started south of Lock 17 Road near Betty Hill Road, then tracked toward Groundhog Road by Woods Creek. It uprooted softwood trees and snapped power lines along the way. Straight line winds fueled most of the damage nearby, especially along Lock 17 and Groundhog roads in the Providence and Mud Creek areas. Homes and an outbuilding saw minor roof damage, trees toppled and power poles broke, leaving lines across roads for much of the next day. Officials clocked those gusts around 75 miles per hour. Earlier that evening, the same system battered Winston County with 75 mile per hour winds near Haleyville. Structures took hits, including a furniture business that lost part of its roof and a glass door, plus a fliptace shed, damaged garage, and collapsed shed.

1:10Minor tree limb damage also popped up in Adjure, North Johns, and Northern Tuscaloosa County.
