Eberflus Joins 49ers, Shakes Up NFC Defense

He just wrapped up one season as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, marking his return to the team after earlier. Rolls there. Iberfluss first worked with Dallas from 2011 to 2017, mainly coaching linebackers and later adding passing game. This time around, the Cowboys defense struggled badly, finishing last in the league by allowing 30.1 points per game. Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones decided to make a change despite wanting more stability after three coordinators in three years. He praised Iberfluss as a coach and person but said the poor results demanded a fresh start. Now Iberfluss heads to an NFC rival in San Francisco, where the 49ers will face the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in the 2026 season. This move shakes up the coaching landscape across the conference. As both teams build out their staffs for next year, expect more shifts on the defensive side to boost performance heading into training camp.
