Eberflus Joins 49ers as Assistant Head Coach

Eberfluss wraps up his time as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 season. Under Eberfluss, the Cowboys defense ranked third from last in the NFL for yards allowed per game at 377. They finished dead last and points allowed, giving up 30.1 per game on average. Before Dallas, Eberfluss served as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2022 through 2024. The Bears went 14 wins and 32 losses in that stretch, never reaching the playoffs, which ended with his dismissal. Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones praised Eberfluss as a person in coach, but made it clear the team needed changes after such a rough defensive year. Now with the 49ers, Eberfluss gets a fresh start to rebuild his reputation. This addition strengthened San Francisco's defensive coaching staff, heading into the offseason, setting the stage for potential improvements next year.
