Welcome to the jungle. I'm Jim Rome in Southern California having a great day. So we start our number two coming off an awesome interview a J.A. Bill inside not run him down in a long time. I'm so glad I did. Quick reminder with professional grade products for every industry Granger as you covered you want a car click ranger.com or just stop on by tell hundreds toll free everywhere 1-800-636-8686. I say that because the beef segment is coming up at the top of our number three. So next hour right now though we are joined by an ESPN NFL contributor. He is host of this is football with Kevin Clark. It airs on ESPN 2. It's also available on digital platforms. He also contributes to ESPN content such as get up and first take. He previously covered the NFL for the ringer from 2016 to 2023 as well as covering the league for the Wall Street Journal. We are joined right now by Kevin Clark Kevin. It is awesome. How are you doing? I'm doing great. I'm so fired up to be here. I've listened to you for a long time. I'm thrilled to make my debut. Kevin it is awesome for you to make that debut. I've been waiting on you too. And I know you being a media guy through and through. I thought maybe you might know about the show. So we know about each other. It's great to have you here. Listen before though before we hit on NFL topics. I want to spend a minute on your show which has really sharp football conversations and analysis is produced by Omaha productions which paint man
who has co-founded kind of surreal, right? How surreal is it that Peyton is one of your bosses and what's it like to work for that company? It's unbelievable. And just having him as a sounding board for football like literally like that. That's the one thing. I think that is the best thing about about the resources at Omaha is if you have a football question you can ask Peyton frickin manning Jim like that like who else what other editor could have a better sharper football mind and so like I've joke about this before like the reason I have his phone number. Is he came on my show a couple months ago and wanted to talk with the Vikings offense. I go and go make a coffee or something I get my phone. Unknown number. He's got three paragraphs. He wanted to say about the Vikings offense. And so that's we start texting and now we we do it all the time. So it's like that's the coolest part to me is if I have football question I get the resource on planet Earth. It's incredible right in the fact that you have that resource. The fact that he sees you with somebody that he wants to do business with from football standpoint says a lot about you. Now it's cool.
Who is that is. It's still not as cool as this next thing that I'm going to bring up. Your wife Emily is a Pulitzer prize winning reporter for the Wall Street Journal where you used to work. Does it ever seem a tad trivial debating the merits of things like the Tush push when your wife is out here winning Pulitzers and breaking stories. They can affect the global economy. Hey, I can do economy. She couldn't do a Kirk cousins break down. There you go. Come on, bro. No, no. She. She's the best supporter in America. She's the best supporter in America. She's amazing. I, you know, we talk about trivial all the time. Like I imagine we're sitting next to each other on the couch on our laptops. I'm looking at the NFL salary cap. She's writing about Bill Gates and Jeffrey Epstein. Okay. That's all you need to know about the seriousness of what goes on in our house is I got. Oh, I got to watch this. I want to watch one of my football. She's she's bringing down some most powerful people on planet Earth. So yes, it does seem a bit trivial, Jim. My brother.
I said this respectfully. I know why it works for you. But why does it work for her when you're messing around with the Tush push? I'm that's incredible. That's wild. You're not that I'm just being funny. Listen, moving to the NFL, Kevin Clark, my guest, your ESPN colleagues, Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler did a deep dive for ESPN.com on the friction between the Eagles and J one hurts. What was your reaction to the piece and did any of the specifics in surprise you? No, I mean, we've been hearing about this. For a while, and they keep going through different offensive court. And it should have reasons. Obviously, the Kellan Moore, there was friction there, but obviously that had enough work and Kellan Morgan gets it gets head coaching job. Kevin Tulo, obviously, it doesn't work. I think, and I've heard this from the Philly writers in the last 24 hours. I think the Eagles, not extending Jalen hurts when their philosophy in Philadelphia is to extend as early as possible. When you know you have the guy, that says more than any article blog podcast could
possibly say, okay, they extend their guys when they know they have the guy. You talk about 2027. They have, I think, 22 million dollars in guaranteed money going to Jalen hurts, but he's making 50. And by the way, Jim, you know this, 22 million dollars. You got a quarterback contract. That's nothing. I mean, think about what the Broncos do with Russell Wilson. Think about, obviously, two in Miami. If they don't think he's the guy next year, they could do a post June one cut and work walk away with what seems like a lot of money to me, but it's not a lot of money. To NFL teams. That's in 2027, obviously, 2026. He's going to be the guy. And what's interesting to me is you just do the hypothetical. What happens if he has a repeat of last year's season, do they commit money to him and give him a mega contract, which by then will be probably 60 million dollars, maybe even 65, depending on how that market moves. I don't think they do. I think they would have to show a lot of improvement from year over year. You probably have to do well within the offensive structure. We'll see what happens there. We'll see what happens with the A.J.
Brown trade, but no, I think that a lot of people, Chris Sims comes on my show all the time and says, we talk about different reasons why Jalen hurts isn't succeeding in the offense and the skill guys. And maybe there's, there's a lot of blame that needs to be laid at the feet of Jalen hurts. And so I'm not a tape guy to where I can say, oh, he didn't see this, though, didn't see this throw. But you hear enough stuff for you go, no, I'm not surprised. Just when you look at how the Eagles are building their team. Kevin, you're not a tape guy, but you're like me. You're a pan guy. I'm the same way, man, I never ever do the show. And this is long been the case, either TV, video, otherwise, I've always had a pen on my hand. That's interesting. Listen, you make another really interesting point about how he rose, man, this is what they do. Right. They sign you early. They want to get that value. And the fact that they haven't done that. That tells you something. Let me ask you as a journal. And the guys who did this piece are really good journals. But the fact that we have 12 sources, right? Either currently working for the team or not working for the team. You know this. This is not a coincidence, right? Even as good as these journals are, are they setting this up? What kind of a message are they trying to send either J1 or the world by speaking off the off the record? Yeah.
It depends on who the sources are. Are they inside the building? Are they? Did they used to be inside the building? Right. And now they're outside the building that that's just broadly speaking about any journalistic endeavor, you know, if I, if I was to say that if you get 12 of the current coaches or 12 of the current players, then yes, it's, it's a message about this next year, which is this better work. And I think that when you're talking about this Eagle story, that is the message that this story in ESPN is trying to send, which is this better work this year with this new coaching staff, with Nick Sireani. I mean, like I always say, say this a million times, you talk about people go, we go, oh, it's ridiculous to see Nick Sireani's in the hot seat. You're always on the hot seat in Philadelphia for one reason. They fired a lot of great people. They fired Andy Reed, who is the best offensive coach, maybe in the history of football. Okay. They fired Doug Peterson, about five minutes after he won a Super Bowl, because they didn't like what he said in exit meeting. My house is going to change his staff. That's what they do. When I think about the Eagles and how they operate. I think it's very simple.
I think how it was meant in Jeffrey Laurie, Jim, think they give you the best roster in football or close to it. A top five roster every single year. And the tax you pay as I had coaches, you better win every single year. And that goes for the quarterback too. Everybody's perpetually in the hot seat in Philadelphia. And everybody wants to blame the media market. Everybody wants to blame the fan base will boo anybody. Boo Santa, whatever. But I think it's more about expectation from the top. We give you this roster. We spend a lot of money. We manage the cat better than anybody in the NFL. You better win with it. Kevin Clark, joining us. So Kevin, when Jeffrey Laurie professes his love for J one hurts the way he did. Is that just covered. He feel like he feels that strongly about him. What was that all about? It's what you say. I mean, I think you have to understand that he's going to be a quarterback in 2026. And the only thing you can do is support your quarterback. And listen, I was at those owners meetings over and over and over again, you'd hear. There were votes to confidence for far worse players than Jalen hurts at those things. Okay. You got 32 coaches, 32 GM 32 owners all talking. And there were some votes to confidence or go, OK, I don't know about that. And Jalen hurts. I mean, that isn't even close to the worst guy who got to vote a confidence. I think Jalen hurts.
He's won a Super Bowl. He's gotten to Super Bowls. He is. I think he can execute an offense. He can play really well. He does a lot of things well. Okay. So I don't think that they're coming into the season saying this is going to be a two-a-esque disaster. I don't think it's ever going to get that bad, especially with that coaching staff and that roster, right? And just the way how he rose and is able to build a roster. I think there's going to be some level of success. They're trying to build confidence in him again, trying to set the stage for this to work. I don't think they want this not to work. I don't think they want to fire everybody. I don't think they want to retool that roster. I think the best option for them is Jalen hurts plays really, really well. And they get to go forward and extend him and everything is good. But as we talked about, how are Roseman signs as guys when he knows Jerry Jones is the guy who tries to win these standoffs and all that stuff. The stuff that never works. Okay. So if you're waiting, there's always a reason. And that I think is why maybe they're trying to pump him up. They want to see what this looks like in 2022. I think that's the strongest point. Before you go, Kevin, I'm glad you brought him up. Let me follow you up on Jerry Jones. So they use the non-exclusive franchise tag on George Pickens, not surprisingly, Brian Shottonheimer said this week,
he's not sure if the receiver's going to show up for OTAs. Kevin, knowing Jerry Jones and to use it, the point you just made, his track record with negotiations with players, his utter disdain and disregard of agents. How messy could this get with Pickens? And this is the annual July and August, Jerry Jones spectacular, Jim. That's what it is, man. That's what it is. We traded for George Pickens last year. I said two great things for Jerry Jones. Number one, he gets one of the best vertical receivers in football. And number two, he gets a contract drama a year from right now, which is, by the way, happening as we speak, George Pickens is a big personality. He's going to want to get paid. He's earned the right to get paid. But Jerry Jones is the only person on the planet who seems to think the cost of superstars goes down the longer you wait. He always does this. He loves the drama. This will get done. But in the meantime, it'll give a lot of ammo for you and I and everybody on daily talk shows to ask what the heck Jerry Jones is doing. And it will cost them money. And it's the reason that Eagles win and the Cowboys don't.
So, weirdest thing is that guy that values money so highly, guy loves money so much that he doesn't understand that it costs him more money to do that when his job is to make money. And he's very good at that part of the job. For sure. Kevin, one last thought, most guys look great on pro days, right? Pro days are set up so guys look great. That's obvious. Fernando Mendoza is no different. He looked absolutely awesome on his pro day. I know you're proud Miami alum be objective here. What do you think of the biggest challenges that he's going to face in making the transition to the NFL? Once the Raiders do make him the first pick overall. I've joked about this, but one of the transitions will be that the Indiana offense and defense never made mistakes. They were veteran team, but you're going to the Raiders. There's going to be some mistakes around your pal. Like you can get used to that. Okay. It's going to be in that team might in some parts positions be younger than Indiana, right? So, I think it's part of that. I think there's going to be just a lot on his plate. I mean, he's going to have to be once he takes over Kirk Cousins, the savior of that franchise.
I think at Indiana, that was relatively speaking a really deep roster with a lot of talent around him, a lot of veterans. He wasn't asked to do a lot, but when he was asked to do it, the back shoulder throws were awesome. He, again, never made mistakes. The running was really good. I do think I a little bit. I love Kim Ward last year. My base concern was what happens when he takes those NFL hits for an enemy and doses rushing success last year was phenomenal. We saw on the national championship with that touchdown run. He's going to get hit hard because of how smart he is about running the ball. When to do it. He's great on high leverage downs. He's going to have to be a smart runner and that's going to be a transition. There's no miles Garrett at the college level. When you're in the open field, you're going to take some hits. I'm watching that as well. I do think that signing Kirk Cousins was absolutely the perfect move for the Raiders, Giffran and Mendoza, a little bit of time here. He's going to have to save a franchise. This is not going to be well-a little machine in Vegas like Indiana was. I agree with you. He's all over all the ESPN platforms. Kevin, you just murdered your jungle debut.
We should have done that so much sooner. I appreciate you doing that. I would love to have you back. That was an absolute blast, man. Thank you so much. Appreciate your man. Appreciate you. Kevin Clark. That is a pedigree journal right there. Who knows and stuff. That was fun. How about that? Back to back. Jay Billis and Kevin Clark two smart conversations. And now I digress back to you clones. No offense. 1 800 636 8686. I thought he made a great point. Really salient point about the quarterback situation in Philadelphia. See two points. A piece like that. Showing up on ESPN.com. And again, you had a couple of really good journals who wrote that up. And they wrote the hell out of it. But when you have 12 sources, they're willing to talk. They're sending a message. They're either, this is why I said, they're either setting something up or they're sending a message. Otherwise, you're not having people either inside or outside or both within the building. They are so willing to talk unless they want to send a message.
You know, and the message being, hey man, better get it done this year. And they're setting it up. Because if not, we will move on. And Kevin Clark made a great point. In Philadelphia, they feel like we give you the best of everything. You need to win or we will fire you. Andy Reed got fired. Doug Peterson got fired. Jalen Hertz could get fired if it doesn't get better because they're not getting it done. So I think very clearly a piece like that does not come out of nowhere. People are willing to talk. Now that's not to say they've already made up their mind. But that is to say, if I'm Jalen Hertz and I'm reading that, I'm like, oh damn. Okay. All right. That's how it is. He probably should have already known how it is. But if you read that piece, part of the problem is he doesn't agree with how it is. And he's going to do it his own way. Well, the Philly way is if you don't get it done, we'll find somebody who will. All right. So my thanks to Kevin Clark. I thought he was great. That went really well. All right. You have your telephone number and what I mentioned about the beef segment were a quarter
past hour number two beef segment top of our number three. Start thinking about what it is. You want to beef about one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six. wait and you want to wait until a last second, that still works. But you want to get yourself in the rotation early. Go ahead and do it right now. One eight hundred six three six eight six eight six eight six. You do it once a week. You can beef about anything you want sports, non sports, social professional relationship wise family, anything goes, except for those two or three things you're not allowed to beef about and I don't need to mention that. All right. So I want to get to something else. And I mentioned April Fools. We got to April second. And I thought we got through April Fools without really any real damage because as I mentioned, because of AI, you look at anything now that seems a little bit off and you just know it's fake. Everything's fake. It'd be so jaded, but everything's fake. Anytime I see anything, this seems a little bit off fake. That's fake. That's fake. It's all fake. So we get through it unscathed. So I thought, look at these idiots. I think we'd all agree at this point. There are no funny April Fools pranks. I mean,
I can take a joke. I love a good joke, but there's nothing good or funny about April Fools jokes at this point. They're all just whack all of them. However, this one right here, this one, hey, tell what up. This one ranks right near the top of the list as one of the worst of all, is if the Washington Wizards weren't already embarrassing enough, is if they hadn't already hit rock bottom as both a team and an organization. Yet somehow, some way they managed to fall even farther. They managed to hit bedrock yet again. I already thought they hit rock bottom, but I was wrong. Would you look at these morons from last night? Check this out.
Yeah, sir. Somebody's right. The mad guys are going crazy. If you're on the radio, I will explain it. Jackson. Oh my gosh. You didn't see it. We all saw it. It was a blind folded guy at halftime. All right, take a look at the screen for the replay shooting from half. They need him to believe that he made it in one 10 grand. It doesn't actually go in. Brown. Good one, Wizards. Brown. Look at the host, bro. I'm not going to lie, sir. I really, I really, really hate April Fool's Day. I'm so sorry. We're going to hook you up with autographed jersey,
some court side seats for next season. Can you make some noise for me? It was a good sport. Yeah, he was good sport. And we're about to find out why. See, if that were me, I would have burned that place to the ground. Got mascots mocking me. You put a blindfold on me. You lead me to believe that I made a half court shot. He couldn't see it, of course. Then they're all going crazy. She's like, oh, you did it. The mascots are all up in his grill. And then she's like, look, look, look, let's watch it all together. And he didn't make it. No, April Fool's. You don't get any money. Here's a t-shirt and tickets for next year. So is it treating your fans to absolute ass on the floor every single night while charging them top dollar to watch ass every single night? If that weren't abusive and insulting enough, you have to go and do them even dirtier. Good one, Wizards. Let's post some rando out of the stands and humiliate him in front of the
one or two thousand people who still go to your games. Problem with that is it's not always in the room, right? You didn't just play to one or two thousand people or or the 45 fans that you still have left that still go to your games. It's the entire internet that saw how dirty you did this poor dude, right? Horrible team, even worse organization, like this guy for some reason has taken it pretty well, right? I'm shocked that that dude didn't come back and try to burn that house to the ground after how dirty they did him. And how about that host saying, man, I really hate April Fool's jokes. The hell you do, you loved it as much as the other idiots who came up with that idea. Speaking of which, speaking of which, how does not one person who had anything to do with that decision hold up their hand and say, you know, hold up now.
This is probably not a very good idea. This is probably not a very good idea. We don't want to do this. We don't want to do this. That's actually a terrible idea. That's the worst idea. Anybody in that organization who had any knowledge that that was going to happen should have been bleep canned on the spot. Like, I'm not looking to game, but he fired ever except all of the losers who signed off on that promotion. But man, the only reason why that wasn't the worst thing ever is because that dude that they did so dirty was such a good sport. How could that guy have been such a good sport? I would have never taken that as well as that guy did. Oh, wait. This just in just when you think that these lambs can't get any lamer, they somehow do it yet again. They issued the following statement today. After that, the gun viral made the rounds and everybody saw then these morons come back and say quote, we apologize for last night's April fools joke
that left many wondering if we had misled a fan, the skit involving our mascot and other members of our performance team was scripted and intended to celebrate the day. All participants were in on the joke, but we missed the mark. Our fans are our priority. And we continue to be committed to providing a positive experience to all who attend our games. End of quote. I mean, if you're actively trying to get people to hate you, it's working. The only thing worse than that moronic gag was then doubling back and saying that that moronic gag was scripted and that that dope that you did dirty was actually in on the whole thing. And the only reason we even know is because the bit was so whack and you took so much crap for it, you had to come correct unless unless you're as bad of an
organization as I know you are and you actually think that was a win and you're really not sorry. You're pretending like, oh, that was a mistake. Our bad, that was a bad read. Or when deep down what you really think is, man, we are so sorry as a franchise, we will never ever get any run. Otherwise, let's do this. Let's run this little misdirection. Oh, we went viral because we're not going viral for good basketball. That's not happening. We're not going viral for being a good organization. You know what? Why don't we just lean into how much we suck? Hey, I got an idea. Let's do this. Let's make everybody really mad. And then let's double back and say we're sorry when we're really not sorry at all that we actually consider that the biggest win of the year. Like we damned you just won the lottery. That was our lottery. That that was better than us getting one of those top draft picks that I just talked to Jay Billis about. That's better than getting Derrius Aikov.
That's better than getting AJ. That's better than getting part-time Peterson. Man, what a win for us. Everybody's talking about us. Rome's talking about us. Everybody's talking about us. Losers. Like the lowest level minor league baseball team with all of their wacky promotions to get people in the yard are embarrassed for you. Minor league mother bleepers. Except the minor league mother bleepers, they've got an excuse. They have to do it. They're low level minor league mother bleepers. You on the other hand are a freaking NBA franchise acting like low level minor league mother bleepers. At least you're on point in that regard, right? No one's laughing with you, losers. Nobody's even laughing at you, losers.
People just want to fight you. I'm telling you, man. Way to go, Wizards. Oh, oh, we're sorry. No, you're not. I mean, you got exactly what you wanted. You know, no one's ever going to look at you or pay attention to you otherwise, unless you do dumb bleep like that. Certainly no one's giving you any credit for basketball. Certainly nobody's giving you any credit for being a well-run organization. Man, you got exactly what you wanted. Eyeballs. Man, how pathetic. And you charge people for that garbage? You charge top dollar. Gar-oh, but you're sorry. Well, we are fans or our top priority. Believe me, those 45 fans that you have, they ain't coming around anymore. April fools. Good one, Wizards. This is why everybody hates that holiday. Thankfully, we got through it. Thankfully, we got through it. We made it to April 2nd. There's my beef. There's a long-form beef. My beef
is with the Wizards. And how lame they must think we all are. Man, there are good organizations and there are bad organizations and then there are the Wizards. Yes, my beef. How lame did you think that we are that we would think that's cool? But how lame you actually are. Man, that is sad. I mean, sad. Not sad. Like, oh, that's sad. Like, sorry. Man, what a sorry organization. Apology not accepted because you don't even mean it. And you're high five around the office right now. Damn, man, we just got 10 minutes from Rome. We got over. Wasn't that grid? Oh, we're very sorry. The performance team was all in on it. We love our 13 fans. Morons. All right. So do you have a beef? That's my beef. I got you started at segment early. That is my beef. Got another beef. Unfortunately, it's rehab week.
I'm not celebrating that. First Tiger, now Puka. Hopefully, that's the end of rehab week. We don't need a third. I'll get into Puka a little bit later on. Start dialing with your beef. One eight hundred six three six eight six eight six. So the beef segments top of the hour. Top of our number four is the after hour. One thing about the after hour. It is exclusive to our room TV channel. Thank you very much, XCR. If you want to watch the after hour, you can watch it on the following platforms. Roku, Amazon Prime, Plex, LG, TCL, Direct TV, Visio, and Samsung TV Plus. In fact, you can watch all four hours of this show on any of those platforms. But if you want to see the after hour, you can only watch it on one of, well, all of them, but one of those platforms. That's how that works. And James Kelly will join Adam Rankin. I today stay tuned. You're listening to the gym room show.
Get up in here. One eight hundred six three six eight six eight six only checking with you. Some reaction before you get to the top of the hour. Jimmy, the real April fool's joke would have been a Washington wizard win. Ben in San Antonio. War rewarding winning and drafting best records first. You're welcome ears. Yeah, but then there'd be no frozen envelopes. No, you're asking his deceased predecessor. If the lottery were fixed and him snapping, we're not already asking that question like 15 times. Armin Armadillo quote. Look at my man. Not my man. Armin. Usually it does not go with things like those bum ass tickets or the real April fool's joke. Imagine Mori. You are not the father. April fools.
Unworn Mike shaking his head every time the wizards do something stupid after he retired from basketball as a wizard. Yeah, that actually is almost the same thing, right? Or I thought so until we found out that I was in on the prank. Like if somebody gave you 10 grand and said, here you go. You mentally you've spent it before it even hit your hand normally. And then if they rip it back that you didn't even draw iron just kidding. I mean, how do you let how do you not let the hands go right away? That's how you should have known. That's how I should have known right then and there that that stupid joke was even more stupid than I thought because that guy reacted so well like, oh, you're a good sport. And that host saying that's why hate April first jokes. There's no way everybody went ahead on that. Man, that dude probably would have rioted like, oh, no, that's my check. Who wouldn't have said that? Oh, oh, you're going to embarrass me in front of the 12 fans in this arena and the five mascots over there. The hell you are, give me my money. Give me that check.
I'm not going to rip that check out of her hand and immediately gone and try to slam that thing into an ATM somewhere or try to cash it. Oh, no wonder he's such a good guy. He was in on it. More ons. Hey, Armand, you're right. They are bum asses. Why am I so mad at this because I hate April first jokes, especially ones like that that don't land. And then when they then double back for even more attention with an apology, this is fake is the joke itself. That is bum ass. Eric writes, hi, Jim, we don't see anything wrong with the wizards punking their own fans on April Fool's Day. Signed Tonya Harding mini bat night. Hey, everyone, I am Tonya Harding and I am on X. Is she? Is she still? Well, those were like, that was like a steel baton. Many bats, steel baton, whatever you want
to call it, whatever it was, it bounced off an Nancy's knee and it didn't sound like it felt very good. Still, if you were to say to me, hey, Rome, look back over your career. What's maybe the craziest story you've ever seen in covering sports over the last four decades? Probably that. Probably honestly, probably that. Find me. Let's just think about that for a minute. Find me a more bizarre story and a crazier story than that. Could you imagine if something like that were to happen today? It's a good thing it happened then, but could you imagine if that were to happen today? Tonya sitting around with her crew, her crew, Galuli, the other goons, they're sitting around, they're thinking, man, no matter how hard we go, no matter how hard we practice, no matter how many hours we put in, we'll never beat that horse. We'll never beat her. We just can't. She's better. And this is the only way we can get paid. How else are any of us losers going to make money?
How we need to win the gold, but we can't beat Nancy. She's just better. I need an idea. I got an idea. How about this? Good, good. You, you're over there loser. What, what can we do? We can hire a coach. It's meant shut up loser. That's not going to work. How about you? What could we do? All right, Tonya. I don't know if you're going to like this, but you know what we can do? We can wait for Nancy to leave the rink after she practices. I'll be outside. And then the second she hits the sidewalk, I'm going to smash her in the knee with a lead pipe. That could work. That could work. I like that. Tell me more. You bang her on the knee with a pipe. We have the getaway car waiting. Bam. She's out of the trials. She's out of the way. Her knees busted up. We win gold. We get paid. I like it. Let's go with that. That, that actually happened.
Oh, that, that's, that's a different bat. That's a aluminum bat. That's a aluminum bat in college baseball. I know the sounds. I know the differences. This is the sound of somebody getting hit in the knee with a lead pipe. No, that's the sound of somebody getting hit in the knee with a lead pipe. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why didn't that work, Tonya? Such a great idea. That is, that happened. One of the craziest stories ever. And you like to bring it up. Jamie Green Bay, the bigger joke was that the wizards let the 76ers drop one 53 on their head last night. Exactly. They, they know what, why do you think they do stupid bleep? Like they're a mascot joke. So we won't be talking about stuff like that.
Jim in Coachella. Man, I love it when the after hour obsessives come in early. Yo, Jim, what up, man? You couldn't wait. Jay Billis, consummate, professional, love hearing his analysis. It's going to be a great final for excellent interview, Jimmy. What? Nothing on Nancy Kerrigan, nothing on Tonya, nothing on OGE, just really good interview Rome. It's gonna be a good final for. I'm waiting for your punchline, Jim. What else you got? That what kind of take is that? Hey, Rome, it's gonna be a really good final for. He's not wrong. Oh, wait a minute. Here's something. So Stucknaught did a little research. We got confused yesterday talking about the hack off. Not the smack off, but the hack off. Remember, the smack off is for the very best of the best. The hack off back in the day was for the worst of the worst. Hack off. I had the hack off before the smack off. I mean, in proximity. So, but we're trying to remember how many years did we do it? And who actually won it in what year?
The reason we did this was because yesterday was the 15 year anniversary of the second hack off. And I'm like, who won the first one? Okay, so now we have this. Stucknaught laid this out. 2010 was hack off number one. Vinnie Mac in Des Moines wanted. Oh, we do. We have time. Do you have any of that? All right. So the second one, hack off to Ray Ray in Tampa, Tampa wanted. Remember, Ray Ray? Now the queen, Jolene in Farmington wanted in 2012. That was the last great moment of the hack off. Who will ever forget Jolene's call to win the hack off in 2012? Jolene in Farmington. What's up, girlfriend? How are you doing, Rome? Good, Jolene. How are you? I'm pretty good. I know everybody's going to anticipate in my call.
Hell, yes, they are. What do you got for them? All kinds of BF. Hey, join anytime you want to start. Fine. Let it rip. What I got to say for Fabian is he's a German Shepherd rescue mix. And there's nothing more than more sadder than one man hockey sacking by himself. Oh, yeah. I guess there is ish. Hey, what up ish? I'm going down. I'm going to take all y'all down like Metta World Peace, baby. You can't come back from me. Hey, hey, more child, please kiss the baby, Metta World Peace, baby. This call is the biggest thing since the Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding. And the world's going to stop rotating when I sit in the room with Jim Rome and co-host the show. Hey, just to for a future reference, I like my coffee black. That's for you, ish.
Jolene, are you still there? I'm out, both. Oh, my god. Oh, no, both. That's in all time called that that won the Hack Off needless to say that that probably could have won a smack off when she said y'all won't be laughing when I'm sitting there in the studio next to Jim Rome. But what I said at that time was where wins the Hack Off can co-host the show with me. I think that was something I offered. Hey, hey, hey, hey, the problem was that's for you, ish. Oh, that's for you, ish. The call was so beautiful and so perfect that I never wanted to end. And I always wanted her to show up like that again. And she never did. She tried a couple of times and she could never, ever quite recapture the magic of that phone call and understandably, right?
You can't make a perfect call twice. I mean, I didn't even debate you can make it once, but she did. That was so incredible. If you were here back in the day, you remember that, but I haven't played that phone call in years. May that takes me back. Jolene, quote, girl friend, where are you? But then it just kind of drifted out. And then in 2013, I had such high hopes because she won in 2012 with that. But then when I ran it back the next year, which was year four, it was going so badly, so badly that in the middle of the event, I just ripped the plug on it. I just canceled it right in the middle of the event. I'm like, all right, I've had enough. I've had enough. This isn't fun anymore. This isn't cool anymore. This no longer works anymore because the callers think they're celebrities now. They were horrible before, but thought they were good. And now they think that they're not horrible. And they think they're good. And now they're trying to be something they're not. And it just doesn't work. Jolene's winning call. That's for you is she was so great. I have no idea it would
happen to the queen. The queen of Farmington, Jolene. That's for you, Ed. What do you got today? I'll just a whole lot of BS for you, Rome. Anytime, Jolene, anytime, yo, in bulk, your mama in bulk. Next role with Vernon Davis. I'm your host, Vernon Davis. Okay, y'all, thank you. Thank you. That's my today. We have Dietrich Watts through my example on the field off the field during game day in practice. That was one way that I laid it because then it led to success. Next role isn't about what's next. It's about why they do it. My man. Donald comes to you finally reached this pinnacle, but can you actually close the deal out and then to be able to close it out? That is one of the biggest joys. That's powerful, man. Next role with Vernon Davis. Follow and listen on your favorite platform.
