E-Scooter Chase Leads to Jail Time

0:00On March 23rd, a 43-year-old man from Nottingham landed in jail after a wild e-scooter chased with police that ended in a nasty fall. On the afternoon of May 6th, 2025, officers on electric bikes spotted Graham McCarthy riding an illegal scooter along Carlton Road. Suspected of drug ties, he ignored orders to stop and sped off instead. The pursuit dragged on for about 10 minutes through busy streets in St. Anne's and toward the city center. McCarthy weaved through traffic and pedestrians, ran a red light and nearly collided with a bus, all while yelling at the officers behind him. Traveling over 20 miles per hour, he lost control trying to squeeze past another bus and tumbled off. This kind of risky behavior put everyone nearby in real danger, from drivers to walkers on the sidewalk. Officers say McCarthy had plenty of chances to pull over but chose to keep going, turning a simple stop into a major hazard. In court on March 16th, he admitted to dangerous driving, no insurance, no license, damaging a police van by banging his head inside it and possessing class B drugs with intent to supply.
