Durham police have ruled out a random attack in the deadly stabbing of 51-year-old Chessley Lions along the American tobacco trail on Monday. Investigators believe Lions knew his attacker, and the incident does not appear to have been planned ahead of time. They stress that the general public faces no ongoing threat. The body was discovered behind a building near the intersection of Fayetteville and Pilot Streets, an area on the trail that is raised safety worries. In the community over recent years, a friend of Lions described him as a sweet and good man, remembering him fondly. No arrests have been made and no suspect is named yet.
