Dombrowski Pursued Cora, Now Mattingly Takes Helm

Philly's president Dave Dombowski just fired manager Rob Thompson and brought in Don Mattingley as the interim skipper. But before that, he made a run at Alex Kora, the guy he won a World Series with back in 2018 with the Red Sox. Kora, fresh off getting let go by Boston, turned it down flat to focus on his eight-year-old twin boys. The two-talk Sunday morning, right after Kora's Red Sox exit, and a couple days before Thompson got the boot. Kora reached out first Saturday night, and Dombowski floated the Philly job quick. They never dug into details though. Kora just wanted family time first, even with a year left on his contract. Don Browski calls Kora one of the best managers out there, putting him in the same breath as Hall of Famers like Tony LaRusa and Jim Leyland. Kora managed Boston from 2018 to 19, then 2021 to 2026, and he's got about 7.25, millions

1:02still owed from his 21.75 million deal. No guarantees Kora slides into the full-time Philly's gig after this season, Dombowski shut that down. Thompson himself brushed it off, saying Dombowski's just doing his homework as a top exec, and he trusts the move for the team. Of course it's out, Boston puts the full bill, but a new team hiring him at fair market value could offset some cash. For now, Kora's playing full-time dead, and Philly rolls with Mattingly while the search heats up.
