Motivation gets you going. Discipline. Commitment. Strong habits is what gets things done.
0:07
Right? It's all up here. Wow, I feel good. When it comes time to bring it into practice,
0:13
grounded action is what gets things done. When you have built a habit, it's ingrained in your
0:21
nervous system in such a way that the brain doesn't even have to consider whether or not it'll get
0:25
done. It just gets done because you commit it. Commit once. This is important. You guys need to
0:30
write that down. Commit once. You don't need to commit more than once. You commit once to the
0:36
thing that you're going to do and then you do it every single day.
0:44
So whatever it is that you're trying to achieve in life, the critical component is getting things
0:50
done and getting things done in a systematic way. Building the character that's associated with
0:56
getting things done in a systematic way requires that you become disciplined. Often time people will
1:02
come to me for advice on fitness, on building their businesses, and their relationships,
1:08
whatever case may be, and often the place that they're dropping the ball is in bad habits or
1:16
not building productive habits. Because it's very difficult to just get up and change your life,
1:21
just change the way you do things. People like to say that all the time, hey, just stop doing this or
1:25
start doing that. They like to give advice, but the underlying factors that our friend, our
1:31
individual, whoever's asking the question is not disciplined enough to actually put that thing
1:36
in action, get that thing done. So the thing that I have always told my students and my clients
1:42
is to start with a small win, begin with something small. So for example, if you want to lose weight,
1:48
I often tell people just start walking every single morning. Don't worry about counting
1:53
counts. Don't worry about complex workout ideas. Don't worry about anything that anyone is selling
2:00
you. Just get up and walk every morning, right? Now it's not the walking that's actually going to
2:06
make that person successful. Now it will add to your success because getting up and walking,
2:11
fresh air and exercise is going to support you in losing weight. But we all know that there's far
2:15
more factors to consider. But what it will do is create the virtue of discipline, commitment,
2:25
the fact that that small win associated with getting up every single morning is under your belt,
2:31
you're going to feel the courage, the confidence, and you will have the ability to begin adding other
2:36
things to your ability to grow stronger. So now that you know, it's been 60 days, 90 days,
2:42
and it's like you got that pattern down pack, you get up every morning, you just walk it's it,
2:46
you don't think about it, it's become a habit. You now can use that tool of creating habits and
2:52
instilling discipline with the next one. Basically what you're doing, and I've mentioned
2:56
this in videos before, is you're getting comfortable with discomfort. You've got to get comfortable
3:02
in getting uncomfortable. And the minute that discomfort begins to woo you, you are no longer
3:08
in control now the circumstances are. So put yourself purposefully in uncomfortable situation.
3:14
There's no virtue is developed in a vacuum. Essentially, no virtue is developed in the absence
3:20
of the practice, the expression, you got to do the thing to have the power. Otherwise you would
3:24
have reached 10 years. You're not a goal person, and I'll end to be quite frank, it's difficult
3:29
for you and myself at times. If I don't have something to be in my ass, I don't like the laugh
3:33
to something. You've got to really, like, brainwash yourself to do that. It's a create a situation
3:38
where you think you sink or swim. You'll learn how to swim. You've got to place yourself in the
3:45
midst of a storm, and it's got to be a self-created storm. Otherwise, you know, most people have
3:51
the wings until the ship comes troubling down before they take action in life. I'm inviting you to
3:56
create a storm for yourself so that you will be motivated by the wolf crying in the door by
4:03
the dog nipping at your ass, by the fire under your ass.
4:20
But the thing is that information, ideas, do not help transform a person, because if it
4:25
did, we would all be jacked, right? How many bodybuilding channels do you watch? How many books
4:31
have you read? How many magazines have you read? How many TV shows? How many seminars? How much have
4:37
you bombarded your mind with ideas about strength and fitness? And you know what? You don't mean
4:46
that you actually got it, right? Because ideas don't help people. What helps people? This is why I
4:51
talked the way I do, is showing them a way that perhaps they could transform their character,
4:58
who they are is more important than what they know and what they do. The way they see themselves,
5:03
their character, it literally requires a brainwashing of yourself to see yourself in a different
5:09
light, affirmations, visualization, meditation. These are all forms of mental transformation.
5:18
See, we have these experiences in our life that are not fun, that are difficult. You know,
5:22
you lose a loved one, you lose a limb. You get really sick. See, these are the easy ones,
5:27
but you're going to experience it in life. You're going to experience some tough, tough, I mean,
5:32
you can lose your parents, you can lose your children. Like I said, you can lose your limbs,
5:36
you could be flat, broken and hungry. There are so many different experiences that you're probably
5:42
going to experience in life. You know, getting in an accident, there's so much. And each one of those,
5:48
each one of those aren't arbitrary. Think about how bad it can possibly become. That is not
5:54
arbitrary. It is purposeful. It is set there for your growth, right? That's what life is about.
6:01
Life is engaging in all of those really difficult situations for your growth because always on
6:07
the other end of that pain is a stronger version of yourself. That's why that pain is there.
6:14
Like we weight training the weight group. You know what? It's very painful to the body. We
6:20
subject our body to the pain of it. Let's weight it up. The thing waits in order to experience
6:25
the growth that's on the other end of the pain. Life is that knowledge between cannibalic and
6:31
cannibalic is the big group. Cannibalic is the bounce back associated with going through
6:39
a certain sense. Go do something that forces you to look the ugliness in the face so that you can
6:46
deal with it so that you can grow past it so that you become a stronger version of yourself.
6:52
Every time you back away from any of these challenges, these circumstances,
6:57
these fail you. So those are things that fail you. You didn't lose that basketball game
7:01
because you're failing. You didn't drop out of school. You didn't have the experience that
7:05
caused you to drop out of school because you're a failure. And those circumstances
7:11
post you in order for you to grow stronger. Even if you fail and fail and fail, you get knocked
7:16
in your face 10 times. You're not a failure until you quit mother. I guarantee you that after
7:26
90 days of tiny wins and the revamping of your character, you will be the type of person that
7:33
can get anything done at any time. And the long time perspective is going to be a successful one
7:39
for you. Start small, have big wins with these little things and then use that new version of
7:46
yourself, that new character tool to attack bigger and more advanced things until you reach your
