So we'll take it here on this Saturday afternoon, which yeah, at the end became a lot closer than it probably should have, but whatever. Hello, everyone on YouTube and Facebook and Instagram and X walking watching some walking. Yeah, watching some Devils hockey on a Saturday afternoon early evening on the east coast. And yeah, the Devils snap that losing streak. They don't get to a six pack of elves. They throw a W in there and save everyone a little bit of sanity, right? Sam will just for one game, just for one game. We can't ask for too much here. All right. Well, one game at a time, one game

2:02at a time. Okay. Before we lose the next four in front of a national TV audience that wants to see Jack Hughes. Yes, nothing about the Devils is just want to talk to Jack Hughes. Yeah. Yeah, but either way, Hey, is the team will be on national TV. So, you know, maybe we'll dad don't know, but either way today was the battle of 15th place. Yes, sitting in 15th in the east, your new Jersey Devils and 15th in the West. It is the St. Louis Blues who are having an even more down year than the Devils are, which is, you know, kind of shocking when you look at it and the way their team is constructed and everything like that. I don't think anyone really truly expected St. Louis to be this bad, you know, because if you look at it, I know I'm joking and I'm saying the battle of 15th place, but the Devils, if they were in the West, I think they would be

3:06like ninth in the conference or something like that. It's, it's a pretty, pretty substantial jump over there from West versus East, but either way, the battle of the 15th place commenced from St. Louis, right by the old arch in the center of America. 4:06Serve what's going on, buddy. Pete, all right. So, yes, first period, we didn't really have too much going on there, but for the Devils, that's a good thing, because usually they are typically not playing so well. And on the borderline of giving away the game very early on, but that did not. Oh, boy, what's going on here? My NHL app is trying to play me highlights. I don't want highlights. I just want to run down over here. But yeah, not too much going on there in the first period, where both teams kind of feeling each other out. Okay. But again, the Devils didn't give the game away either. I will say one thing that was very impressive today was the penalty kill. It did, it basically helped them win the game.

5:07Because in reality, yeah, they got the empty netter at the end there, but they, you know, they scored two goals against one of the, I mean, this is the second worst team in the league this year, St. Louis. Yeah, it's only Vancouver below them. I think it's Vancouver, St. Louis, or maybe as the Rangers, are the Rangers that far? I'd have to look. But yeah, I think St. Louis is the second worst team in the league. But in a way, that's correct. Thank you. Thank you, Sam Wu. Fact check in me. First period, they didn't give the game away. So I'm going to take that as a win in the first period. They did have some chances. I believe they outshot the owner. It even up by the end. It was the second period that they had the dominance in the shots. But the Devils did start out early with some rapid fire chances and opportunities. And it ended up 11 12 shot wise in favor of the blues

6:12in the first period. But the first half of that period, they did play good. Nice to see Luke back out there on the ice. But yeah, we move into the second. And the man who you know is going to start heating up because looking at the calendar, it's just about to turn to March. It's Timo time, my friend. Give it a few. Give it five. Give me close to Timo. My oh yeah. He gets his 16th of the year coming from the defensive combo for the Devils. Brett Pesci and Luke Hughes. Luke gets his 20 second and since Brett Pesci has six at five thirty seven of the second period to put the Devils up one at nothing. And this was kind of a little wacky play in neutral ice where both teams were on a change. And the blues ended up getting caught. The puck kind of ping ponged. Was it between Luke and Brett or was it Brett and Timo? I think it might have been Luke and Timo at that point.

7:19Write a neutral ice and a little ping pong action over the puck, but Timo breaks up the wing and gets the feed from Brett Pesci. And he gives moves right in. And he shoots one of those, you know, one of those shots we used to see quite often from this team. And you would see them bury them, but it's, you know, obviously it's dried up here in this season, but that far side shot that sniper shot that elite scorer shot. Timo, and you know, the thing was to Timo waited. He delayed just enough for the blues defenseman to kind of get in the way of Bennington's vision. And then he let it rip. He delayed just that extra second. And now you get a partial screen, shoot it far side. So your goal, the goal tenor has a hard time picking it up and puts it in the back of the net.

8:21So good one there. For Timo, Marham, what do you know? The first time in, I don't know, eight, nine, ten games or something like that. The devil's score first. You knew something was up today. This typically they don't do that. But either way, devil's score first. So good positive signs over there. Then the devils get a power play. And wouldn't you know it? They get a power play goal by Duggy Hamilton. Look at Duggy still cracking him home over there and say what you want about Duggy. I've said it, you know, everyone said it that you know, feel he needed to be traded. He wasn't living up to that contract at this point. But since Duggy got healthy scratched, he has played exceptionally well. Now he might be playing that way with a little chip on his shoulder, trying to find a nice

9:26trade partner to his liking to get out of said New Jersey. But set it the other day. If there is one player on this team that is truly embraced being in New Jersey, it's been Duggy Hamilton. And I feel kind of guilty because I've I've said it years ago. I get you can go back on these positive guys. And I said years ago, Duggy Hamilton is not going to finish out that contract in New Jersey because there's just too much. Now I feel back because I really realize how much Duggy embraced not only the team, but the state as well of New Jersey, which a lot of players don't. And ever since that healthy scratch, I think it was the best thing to happen to him because oh boy, didn't light a fire under his ass. And you could see it in Duggy Hamilton. He's not the Duggy he was from a couple of years back. I think beer baron is the one

10:27who said it a long time ago that pec injury has ruined a lot of players. And it's been a struggle for Duggy ever since then. I didn't think it was going to affect him as much, but you know, he's getting up there in age. And as a major injury happening, you know, when he was what 32, 33 or whatever, not 22, you know, it's a little a little bit different recovering at that age. But good for Duggy gets his eighth goal of the year, a big big G special teams coming through. Later in the second period as well, that was at 1944 right after the Devils had killed a high sticking penalty from Timo Meyer. It was an errant stick. He was in the corner battling, kind of loses balance. Stickles like this wax someone in the face there. But the Devils PK comes through,

11:30and then what do you know at the special teams rebound, take that momentum from the PK and put a power play goal home. And wouldn't you know it? The Devils doubled their normal output in a game in one period. This is unheard of to nothing. No Jersey Devils. Good for Duggy. And they held onto that lead throughout the game all the way till the end of the third period when obviously St. Louis, who also is in their six on six on five error pulled pulled Bennington, you know, they're trying to attack here. And remember when we were talking about marquee no playe pucky. Remember, remember is that marquee no playe pucky. Let's keep that going. Okay. Jacob Marxstrom tries to do his best Marty Brodor impersonation. And is taking a shot at the empty net goal.

12:32Instead, he shoots it directly into bottle. Bootsnavish, who just kind of kicks it. And luckily, it goes to the side of the net or suitor is. And he just kind of chips it back and Bootsnavish puts it into the back of the net. Now I'm excited with like two minutes. What was that? 1842. So like a buck and a half left to go in the game. Now it's a game. Now all the pressure is on the Devils. And now all your thing is here comes the epic collapse we're all preparing for. Right. He was like, this is too good to be true. A too nothing shut out. Marxstrom give it and take it the way there. Terrible play. marquee just please let Jake Allen do all the puck handling. You just focus on stopping the puck. That's all. That's all, bud. I know you're trying. And I know you got good intentions in your mind and in your heart. No more play pucky. Okay. No more play pucky. Luckily for us Devils fans,

13:42the defense stood up in that final minute and a half. And they did not, I mean, couple icing, but whatever. They did not allow the blues to crash into the net much like we've seen other teams due to the Devils. Keep them on the perimeters. And not getting anything in that center slot position. They were able to get the puck out of the zone. There was a great clear. It might have been ducky or it might have been Nico. I can't remember where the puck did not go far enough for an icing. It just got into the neutral zone. So St. Louis had to clear out, you know, come get on sides and back again. And that was a great play. Because Nico, I think he won one of the face off draws off of the icing. I think there was two of them in that final and that final minute and a half might have been three. But Nico on one of them and he lost the other.

14:46The Devils were dominating on face offs throughout the game. And then as it went along, St. Louis kind of even some things out there. But the Devils do end up getting an empty net goal going to the captain. Nico, he sure. I believe he is the, I believe he is the first New Jersey devil to crack the 20 goal mark this season. That could be wrong. And I kind of stopped tracking everything a little bit. But either way, the captain gets his 20th of the year coming from Jasper Brad is 30th. Hey, Jasper Brad, nice to see you again, buddy. And Connor Brown, who had a very strong game with with Gritzhuk and Jack Hughes. Jack in the center there didn't see a lot of turnovers from Jack was making some good plays. Didn't he? I think he had this system. Yes, he did. He had the,

15:47oh, Mark, he actually got the secondary assist on the doggie goal. But Jack, and I think that's what Jack is. You know, I think we were all expecting Patrick Kane right out of the bat for Jack Hughes. But Jack is more of a playmaker than he is a goal scorer. We need to get some snipers and some guys that can put the puck in the net for Jack Hughes because he can back a team off. He's good with those own entries. He's got to work on the friggin turnovers, though. We all know that he coughs the puck up way too much. But he can back the defense off and create space. And I think with Connor Brown and Gritzhuk, they might have kind of just stumbled on a combination that I don't think many were thinking of, but might actually, you know, be complimentary to each other. So if we can continue with that, we'd love to see it because Connor Brown is really good five

16:52on five. But the devil's team in general, I saw some advanced statistics for them. There are five on five expected goals is like negative 30 something. And then you look at their goal differentials like negative 36 or something. It's like, oh, wow. If they had some better five on five play, maybe they'd be doing a little bit better. But maybe, hopefully, perhaps Sheldon Keefe and probably some of his final days as a New Jersey devil's coach, maybe finally unlocked some sort of, you know, video game achievement there with finding that line combination. Again, they're playing the second worst team in the league this year against the St. Louis Blues. And they basically can only muster up two goals, oh, whatever, hey, whatever, whatever. That doesn't count as a matter, right?

17:56Let's keep a track of that. There's something that's going to happen. Devils win three, one, three, one, they beat St. Louis shots on goal for the devil's 11, 17 in the second period. They had a really good second. By the way, they dominated St. Louis in that second with the two goals, but they outshot them 17 to six in the second period. So you got 11, 17, for a total of 33, the Blues 12, six, eight, for a total of 26 face offs really evened out. The devils were up around 60% through the first, I think like two periods of this game. And it basically evened out. The devils had 28 wins in the face off circle to the Blues 27. So the Blues really turned it up a notch over there. Power play, Blues 0 for three, PK. And the devils were won for two on the power play. So special teams really, really coming

19:03through the hits were very lopsided today. So I don't know if we had a friendly score keeper there in St. Louis because it says they outhit the devils 29 to 12. Maybe a little skewed on that one, but whatever. Devils stole what their quintessential almost 20 giveaways 19 giveaways in this game. But they still found a way to win in the battle of 15th place from the center of America, St. Louis Missouri. Devils win 31, snapped the losing streak. It's a one game heater. Let's see what you think about it. Dubs served Michael. Hey, I see a selector. Let's bring on the man with the slickest hair east of the Mississippi. That would be a Sam by God. Woo.

20:08In here to get his reaction on this game. If he said, Oh, there he is. Okay. There's Mr. Slick hair. Sam. That was my reaction. Nothing. You know what you know what this game reminded me of. What's that? It was kind of boring, but this is how we used to like it where we just sit back watch and the devils just play well defensively. Just clamp them down, score the timely goals. Marty Bordor tries to shoot one and everyone's a, but you know, obviously, I don't think he ever shot one directly into the defensive guy who was like, Mark Henry Flurry did in the world juniors years ago. Remember that? And then we, we, we can't, we started seeing silver bells behind them up in Albany during the

21:11lockout. He was having a great time. I think he gave us the finger that, that game. It was the river rats, river rats, and the baby. I don't think Wimpy made it to that game. He had too many long island iced teas and he didn't make it to the game. So, okay. But yeah, it was just like one of those like, okay, not saying that the devils had full control of the game, but it was just, you know, I look, you know, they did make mistakes, but they recover pretty well during this game. So I didn't really know what to play about. Yeah. PK came through. I was pretty, pretty, pretty nervous. On the Timo, errant high stick. And then when Jack took the delay of game penalty, I was like, oh, no, no, no, no, please, please not, not this way. Don't, don't let them score this

22:13way. I was like, come on, PK, come on. And they came through. That was a bit, that was the big deal. Special teams really sealed it. I mean, Dougie, Powerplay goal, and stop it with a killed all three penalties for the blues. That's your special team. Other than that, it's a tie, it's tied one, one. Yeah, at the same time, Scotty, like, this is like, let's, I'll make a call. It's the second worst team in the league that they're playing. I'll make a college football reference. Like, neither team is ranked, you know, it's like, all right, you know, it was just an official game, but that's about it. Like, I'm not going to do much stock. And it, but, you know, if they gain a little confidence, that's more like a bowl game. You see does. I mean, it was the battle of the 15th place. I mean, Mark, Mark's job dropped the Chalupa there

23:13for them. So, yes, he did. That was pretty terrible. That was really, really terrible. And I was, I was fully expecting St. Louis to score in that last like, I know, just get it all, just score ready. Come on. I know it's going to happen. I was sitting here. I'm like pacing back and forth, you know, and I'm just like, just do it already. Just get it over with. So we don't have to like suffer through this. Like, just scoring. Come on. Let's just get it over with, you know, but man, that was bad. That was bad, Marky. Don't ever do that again. Don't ever do that. Marky, no play, Pucky. Let's take the snake to do that. He's really good. Mark's just stay in the goal and just stop those shots. Stop those shots. And I think in myself, like, we really extended them two years after that play for no reason whatsoever. No reason. We can have a cap flexibility and

You know, I think, well, when I think the part of the issue with that is, is it was something we haven't really talked about too much, but you go off as taking a considerable step backwards this year. If you look at his stats, in his first juniors year, you know, he didn't play a lot of games and he was lights out. And then his second year, he played the majority of the games, not so much. That first year would be you. He was lights out because he wasn't the number one. And he didn't play as this year. They put him as the man and much like in the ju- he's the stats have dropped considerably. So I think there might have been a little panic. I don't think we still need it to resign, Marksham,

25:16for two more years, especially with Jake the snake. I think we would have been fine, finding another gold tender to be able to platoon with him until they maybe someday unlock the secret of getting a solid, you know, everyday gold tender for the New Jersey Devils. But I think it was a bit of a panic move that you go off. Hasn't had the best year. I completely disagree because they resigned Marksham before you go off started this season. Did they wasn't that was that before it was it was like in in November. It was very early in the season. Oh, maybe I'm just getting my yeah and also and also BU you got to look at what's in front of him at BU too. I wouldn't I wouldn't put it all on him. I don't think you took a step back.

26:17Well, well, the here's so this is like, you know, 43 games in the US HL and he had a goal against the 386 19 games it goes down to 312. But BU the 18 games that first year he's got a 2.15 goals against 31 games this year. He's got a 2.79. He was 11 and 6. Now he's 14 13 and 2. Goals against in the first year 38 this year 83. I think there's definitely been a I don't know. You probably right. I probably have my timeline screwed up. But it's something that we haven't really discussed is that there's there has been a dramatic shift. You know, now that you go off is the man over there and playing the majority of the games. 28:31you know, obviously, which for anyone who doesn't know, it's a Hockey Hall of Fame. It's not an NHL Hall of Fame. Yeah. It's a Hockey Hall of Fame. And here's my problem where it's at. Okay. Because everyone's like, oh, you don't know what you're talking about. Let's put it this way. I wanted to attend several Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. And that place is small. It's limited space. It doesn't do these Hockey Hall of Famers any justice. When the ceremony is so can like content like you can't fit with any people there. And couldn't see Marty Brutor. Couldn't see Scott Stevens. I was up there when Scott Stevens got inducted. And what really hurt is I wanted to see my friend Bill Clement get inducted. He wasn't able to get me into it. So my suggestion is, well, why don't you find a bigger I get the

29:35history of it and all that kind of stuff. But it does the game at disservice when regular fans can't watch their hockey heroes get inducted. And then I got to think it was like, well, your country hasn't even won the Stanley Cup in over three decades. They got me thinking, you know what? Might as well bring it to New York. Have it in New York near the NHL offices. Find a nice place and put it and do it some justice. Bring the Hockey Hall of Fame to New York. That's all I have to say. Or have a US version, US for, I don't know, but there is a United States Hockey Hall of Fame. But what I'm saying is it's like, you have a venue that sucks. You look at like baseball or basketball or, you know, football, when they do, what's that all kind of small? No, you could have a huge crowd. You can have a huge crowd. You know, I mean, it's like, I can't even, you know, I can't

30:39even get a ticket. Why don't they hold it like in the arena? Because they're stupid. I mean, that would make most sense. Yeah, it's like most of the, most of the Hall of Fame's are small. You know, they're not like these huge things. I mean, the baseball one has that big open field there. Yeah, so they can have the, the speeches and everything like that. Of course. Cooper's town is great. Canton is great. I mean, Ken is, it's, yeah, but they're tiny though. Like you can walk through it. But they have a venue where you could do it. We're the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto is you can't, you can't have like, you know, I don't know how, what it seats like 100 people. I don't even know. It's, it's maybe 200 people at most. It's ridiculous. It should have, I mean, just do it at the arena. Like that, I mean, that makes the most sense. Just do it at the arena, you know, like that way you can, yet, that way you can have more people in there. So I think they should move it. I think they should move it. Wait, I want to move it to New York. Be easier drive for me.

All we need is the freaking cup to go down the Niagara Falls, you know, Boston, maybe also. Now they're too obnoxious. You can do that. I think I say New York. I say New York. 32:45I'm not saying it's not a nice facility. It's just when you do a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, I just, I can't get in. Well, there might be a reason for that, Sam. They may not be letting you win. There might be a difference there. I think you're on the, on that list. There's a flyer up. What's black list? Yeah, there's like a flyer up. Yeah. Yep. They do, they do outside Major League Baseball, and NFL is just NFL though. But any who's the devil's one? Who would have thunk it? They are now at 60 points on the season, Sam.
