00Ready for a lap? It's time for Derek's days on 880 chess from the core deep to the downright ridiculous. We're counting down the fun events and bizarre holidays happening today. You won't believe what people are celebrating. Alright, let's not waste any time. I'm setting up what days are coming down the pipeline, Derek. Take it away. Well, the first day is super cuddly. Monday is national panda day. And how can that not be cuddly and adorable. But I did see a picture of a panda like with his teeth showing. And I've never seen a picture like that before. It was weird. But I liked it. Okay. Can you expand on why a smiling panda intrigued you? It actually. It actually was from the new The Nate Barghetsi TV show. He's got a game show going and it was actually a picture. They showed the picture of this bear. And how many men would be interested in finding this adorable. And it was actually like 70% of men found a panda bear showing its teeth adorable.
02Well, I'm looking at them right now and they look like bloodthirsty feet. I know, right? Okay, well, here's what I will say is that I envy the panda. The lifestyle? Life's out. Oh, yeah. 16 hours a day. At 14 to 16 hours a day eating. Yeah. You spend the next 8 to 10 hours sleeping. Oh, yeah. That's it. Those are the two functions of a panda bear. And that's the dream. Yeah. That's the dream. And it's also a fun fact panda is no longer in danger. They're actually now vulnerable. Their list is vulnerable because their population actually grew 17% within 10 years. Well, there you go. Yeah. Basically, they found one hour in a year to try and procreate. Exactly. Squeeze that in. And that's all they needed. Yeah. Tuesday. Well, I think it's going to be St. Patrick's Day tomorrow if I'm not mistaken. That it be? Yeah. Yeah, it could be. It could be. I will tell you what that is. Yeah. Until we started when I was working on a morning show on television and we hosted St. Patrick's Day from the local beverage style. Okay. And yeah, that put it completely on St. Patrick's Day for me.
05So Courtney is going to be sauce toasting the show tomorrow. Just so you know, fun fact about St. Patrick's. Apparently, St. Patrick wasn't actually born in Ireland. He was born to Roman parents and either Scotland or Wales. So technically it might be a Scotsman rather than an Irishman St. Patrick. He might be your relative. This is very true. Wow. Wednesday, that's going to be Transit Driver Appreciation Day. Thank you, ETS. Everybody that drives up bus or a train or anything out there getting us from A to B. Thank you so much. Yeah. Talk us to deal with. Yeah. Talking about St. Patrick, the real saint. So the guys and gals who take drive transit because some of the stuff that they have to endure. I know. It just, yeah, you don't see that in most jobs. That's true. I say thank you every time I leave the bus. Do you? Yeah. That's nice. Yeah. I think it's a very best for habit. Hmm. We have to start up here too. Is that, oh my goodness. That's something me and Leila have in common. Yikes. Yeah. Maybe I need to revise my strategy. No longer say thank you. That's true.
05Well, Thursday, that's going to be National Automatic Door Day. And the fun thing about a lot of these when I do the prep site that I go to, it tells you how to celebrate this whatever day in question. So some of the ways that we can celebrate National Automatic Door Day, you can get your friends together. If anybody actually wants to do this, predict if the door opens when people want it to, or if they kind of stutter step and then it opens. If it moves and then suddenly jerks or stops, I don't know how many automatic doors stop mid-motion. But anyway, and does it stay open long enough for slow walkers? These are things you can actually put money on. Interesting. I will say, and maybe this kind of cast me as a nerd. Yeah. Gasp. Often, very often, probably more often than not. When I come to an automated door, I pretend to be a Jedi. Do you do the hand swipe and the door opens for me? I love that. Why have I not been doing that? We should have had this conversation earlier. Friday, won't you be my neighbor day?
05Courtney, you can probably guess what that's all about? It's about this guy I used to live with. That is stereo blaring. All hours of the night, and I'm like, won't you wait? No, he said, won't you be my neighbor? Yeah. That guy was, won't you not be my neighbor? Okay. Different guy. Stop being my neighbor. This is the guy you want to be your neighbor. Talking about Mr. Rogers, who had that great TV show that I'm sure you and I both watched. Many a time growing up as a kid. And also, the movie with Tom Hanks is really good too. If you have a chance to check it out, fantastic. And the thing to remember, of course, is that the world would not have Fred Rogers, at least as we know him, if it wasn't for Canada, because his first television series was on the CBC back in 1962 before he made his way back down to PBS. That is so cool. Nice. Yeah. Thanks, Courtney. That's cool. We'll be good to info there. A quick look at the weekend, those Saturday, that's National Corn Dog Day. Do you like to partake? I'm on middle of the road with corn dogs. Okay. The first time I ever had one was like two years ago, a cane is, and now I love it. Yeah, I mean, I've got to get one every year.
06They're done like that. They're nice and greasy. Like, fair corn dogs, those work for me. Yeah. But pretty much any other environment, just something about the texture doesn't work. That's fair. I'm a big texture guy. Leave it to the pros. Yeah. Finally Sunday, it's talk like William Shatner Day, so you can have yourself a Star Trek marathon, and talk like Shatner. I can't believe that you would leave this to the very end, and not produce a William Shatner impression. Yeah, I don't have William Shatner, but I can do Jesse Pinkman. Yes, science! That was Alan. I don't work. That's all I got for you.
