It's April 1st, Durham News. Today starts now, AI-powered and ready. I'm Corey with the story. A deputy and Union County North Carolina southeast of Charlotte got smashed into while rushing to a craft scene Monday around 4.45 pm. His. Patrol car took a hit from the rear passenger side by a red Nissan Versa and the driver peeled out without stopping. The deputy fired up his blue lights, pulled into a driveway at the spot-off lawyers' road, and then chased the guy down about half a mile later for a traffic stop. Officials noted the driver showed obvious signs of being impaired and claimed he had a green light, even though no traffic signal was anywhere near. The deputy walked away with no serious injuries. That driver, Noel Caterino Velasquez, now faces charges for hit and run with property damage, driving while impaired, no liability insurance, and an. Open container of alcohol. Officials said a $15,000 secured bond, an immigration and customs enforcement slapped
a detainer on him for being in the country, illegally wrapping this wild chain reaction tight.
