Dennis Cometti: AFL Legend Passes Away

He became a household name for his AFL commentary, delivering smooth calls and sharp humor over more than 50 years in the industry. Cometti started as a player, appearing in 40 games for West Perth in Western Australia. He then jumped into broadcasting full-time with the ABC from 1972 to 1985, covering his first cricket test at just 23 years old. Fans adored his signature phrases that entered everyday footy talk, like descriptions of perfect passes or sneaky tackles. He teamed up with Bruce McAvaney to narrate some of the AFL's biggest moments during long stints at 7-9 and radio stations.
