Deeper Daily Podcast- March 6, 2026

0:00Hello my friends and welcome back to the Deeper Daily Podcast. It is the final day of your work week Friday, March the 6th and I hope it's been a good week for you. We are reveling in, enjoying the goodness of the Father and His wonderful favor and I pray that you are doing the same. I realize that life treats us all differently at different times but one of our assurances is that we have the hope of glory dwelling inside of us. We are not crossing our fingers and hoping we get to glory. Glory has arrived and I pray that even if it is not manifesting in the natural, in the way your life is going right now I pray that your faith main true, maintain true, focus on who he is and what he is in you. Today I want to go back into First Thessalonians 2. I've been working on this chapter all week long. We actually began the second chapter back a

1:05week ago last Friday broke for essay on Saturday and then each day this week we've covered a little more ground. I'm in the 13th verse, a verse that I want to slow down and make a connection here to something that Jesus said in the Gospels and to me that's that's the way to comprehend the Bible. What did Jesus do? What did Jesus say? Verse 13 of First Thessalonians 2, for this reason we also thank God without ceasing because when you received the word of God which you heard from us you welcomed it not as the word of men but as it is in truth the word of God which also effectively works in you who believe. Now there's a lot being said there maybe it's a touch wordy particularly when reading it out of the New King James Version. I'm going to reread it from the

2:07NRSV for you just to see if it cleans it up any in your own consciousness and then I want to work on it a little bit because I think there's something happening here that is important for us as listeners of the word. First Thessalonians 2, 13 NRSV we also constantly give thanks to God for this that when you received the word of God that you heard from us you accepted it not as a human word but as what it really is God's word which is also at work in you believers. So essentially Paul saying to them I am so grateful that you took what I had to say as God saying it to you not as a man saying it to you. Notice that and we talked about this yesterday this is on the heels of Paul defending himself in regards to his own call people thinking he's a heretic people questioning his motives and so after defending himself he then complements the Thessalonikans and saying you didn't take it that way when I spoke to you you

3:08didn't look at it as just this guy the sort of mad heretical ramblings of a guy instead you heard it as if God was speaking to you that phrase that really jumps out at me from that 13th verse the way the new King James says it is because when you received the word of God which you heard those are two different actions you received the word which you heard and that's what every preacher teacher writer hopes for when they share the word with anyone is they hope to be heard that you will give the attention to at least listen but more than that they hope you receive the word as if spoken to you in a way that will encourage or nurture or give nourishment to your soul that's my prayer as a pastor as a as a speaker over this audience is that what we will say is not

4:13only heard but that it's received one of the beauties of the DDP we don't have a huge audience from what I can tell but for the for the few thousands that do make this a part of their lives whether they all make it a part of their lives every day sometimes kind of depends on our topic it seems like but it's what's unique about it is that you come back for it which means you're not only hearing it you're receiving it so in some ways I'm I mirror Paul's thankfulness for his Thessalonikans by being thankful for the DDP listeners people who I never I never cease to thank God because you receive this word as part of your podcasts downloads but you keep pushing play you keep coming back because you're doing more than receiving it you're hearing it you're here I'm sorry you keep hearing it but you're doing more than hearing it you're receiving it so you're hearing what I have to say but you're receiving what I have to say but you're not welcoming it as the word of men you're welcoming it as the word of God and

5:17because of that it's effectively going to work in those of you who believe on Christ now Jesus told the story of the sower the man who goes out to so seed and there's a lot of ways to interpret what Jesus is doing with the parable of the sower I personally think the worst thing to do with it is just an internal inventory where you just feel bad for the moments when you don't receive the word I don't think that's what Jesus was going for I think it had a lot more to do with Israel and the kingdom of God that Jesus was presenting and how many in Israel were not listening to it I don't really look at the parable of the sower as just a blanket tossing of the gospel on a Sunday morning and some people are there and they don't listen and some people are there and they do and I mean I think I can see the utility in using that illustration but I'm not sure it's what's happening in any case we do have

6:21Jesus explaining it and in Mark 4 Jesus talks about the ones in which seed is sewn on good ground listen to how he describes good ground verse 20 these are the ones sewn on good ground those who hear the word receive the word and bear fruit some 30 fold some 16 some 100 so Jesus describes good ground as having heard and then having received and that those two things lead to fruit production so when Paul says I'm thankful that you received it after you heard it because you believe that what I'm saying is of the Lord he's talking about good ground reception and I know we all we all want to be there and so where we believe that we're hearing the voice of God it's to our best interest and it's beneficial for future generations for the fruit that we will produce to not
