It is the 19th day of March, a couple of days left in your work week and it is time for us to shift gears for a few days and begin airing for you a sermon. I've been excited to do this for a couple of reasons. One, I recently put a message up, this was this aired on the 7th of March called, I'm sorry, aired on the 8th of March called the Healing Jesus. If you haven't watched or listened to the Healing Jesus, I highly recommend it and I think if you listen to the podcast for the next week, you're definitely going to want to listen to the Healing Jesus. The Healing Jesus I preached in the fall of 25 in Pennsylvania, a sermon on a Sunday morning that was the culmination in some ways of a couple of years worth

1:04of thinking on a topic that essentially is the Jesus is our healer but don't limit that to the physical. We need healed of stuff and that's what he's doing as our advocate. That's the paracletos. That sermon was mildly impactful and we got this, I told you at the time, we got some of the most immediate feedback ever. I held it until a couple of weeks ago for our audience because I knew I had Jamie Engelhart coming in, I'm gonna need a Sunday so I dropped that one. Alright, that was the sermon that was the culmination of another sermon that I preached a couple of years earlier where I had been wrestling with this idea of Jesus as our healer and spend some time looking at how the Eastern Church, sort of the Eastern Orthodox Church, versus the Western Church, which is largely Protestant evangelical, how we present the gospel and

2:09the gospel in the Western Church very familiar. We present it as your all centers and you're going to hell and you need save and Jesus died to save you. And the Eastern gospel, which by the way is full of Christians, just as Christian as you and me, in fact the Eastern gospel can trace its roots farther back than the Protestant evangelical gospel can. The Eastern Church preaches that sin is a disease that we're born with the contagion, but what we need is not relieved from guilt as much as we need a physician to deal with our sickness. And I think both aspects of the gospel are important. I think letting people know that their guilt for their sin is a real thing and that Christ gives them no condemnation. But if we stop there, we've got all this stuff in our life and we don't know what's going on. And going back to Jesus is unnecessary to

3:16assuage my guilt. And I think we've really nailed that in the Grace Church. We go, quote asking God to forgive you, you're not guilty. God's not got anything to forgive you of you. Okay, it's because we've so focused the gospel on guilt, but we haven't focused people on being relieved from the contagion, the diseases, the stuff, stuff done to you, stuff you've done. All right, I know I'm getting into the meat and potatoes of this and this sermon will do it by itself. This was a message called the Great Physician. I preached it a few summers ago at my friend Mark Testerman's church in Wisconsin. And I love Mark dearly. And I'm so proud of him and so proud of Mark and Valerie and who they are. And I am also going to be pitching his first book, which he wrote is I know I didn't ask him if I can tell you all this, but I know he'll be glad to have another outlet for it.

4:16I was honored to write the forward to his book. And I'm sure it'll be out soon. I know he's in the edit phase. So later this year, and we'll be telling you all about that brilliant work to introduce you to the love of God and the grace of the Father. So I love Mark very, very much and was so comfortable at his place that the Sunday morning was the Great Physician that I felt like, okay, this is a place I can unleash this. And because you can't just say this kind of stuff, just anywhere. And it was so well received. And so important that it stood and ruminated for a couple of years until I released the healing Jesus last year. So you can kind of see how Great Physician leads to healing Jesus. All right. 5:20audience does not all listen to all of these sermons that I drop on full releases. I know I'm always shocked that you don't listen to any of them. Most of you do, but some people are like, I just listen to the podcast. So I'm going to give you a chance to hear a message that I love. And one that was majorly impactful on so much of our audience. It's called The Great Physician. And I will break it down a little bit every day. Now today's unusual. I did most of the talking today. For every day after this, it's going to be me coming on say and here's Great Physician Part 2, Part 3, blah, blah, blah. And then shutting it down. So let's get going with just a couple of minutes just to get your feet wet. Here's the Great Physician Part 1. You ready for the word? I'm excited tonight. I'll meet you in the gospel of Matthew. Tonight, I'm going to minister on The Great Physician.

6:20In 30 years of ministry, I started ministry in April of 1993. We celebrated 30 years just a few months ago. In 30 years of ministry, I don't think I've ever preached on The Great Physician. Now, maybe in my very early days, when I was trying to preach everything I'd heard everybody else preach. And I was just trying to preach all the great titles, you know, all the things you're supposed to preach when you go preach. I might have preached the Great Physician. It obviously didn't make a great impact on me because I put that one in the dust bend of preaching files and left it alone for a long, long time. And it's not because I don't believe Jesus is a healer. Honestly, I believe that Jesus, I believe God can do whatever God wants to do to the condition of His children to improve the condition. He's a good father. I've seen God heal people. I believe that Jesus died and in His death, His body was broken for our body. I believe we can receive of His body, His brokenness, what's been broken in Him, hole in us, and His blood for all of what

7:23ails us. I believe all of that with all of my heart. I believe in healing Jesus. But I haven't preached a great physician because for a long time, all that really meant to me was that Jesus came to heal people. And if you're going to get up and preach the Great Physician, that what you should probably do at the end of it is say that if you have a sickness in this room tonight, come meet the Great Physician. You can't preach an hour on the Jesus that will heal everyone he touches and then someone come up and I'll get healed. And I know there are ministries that specialize in teaching and preaching healing. I believe in the gifts of healings and have seen God do miraculous things. But I don't feel it's my call and that it's my message. And so I've left it alone for a long time. But I'm on a journey. Now that is what I would call a quality tease.
