As we go into the next 24 to 48 hours, Western areas of Wyoming, back into the Pacific Northwest, going to be getting into some areas of rain and snow today, even a little bit of thunder as this next trough settles into the region. As we've been showing you, the split nature of this storm system is going to keep it from becoming a big, marked storm. It's so close. It's so close to being one of those big, marked storms that bring a widespread area of very good precipitation. It's just not going to happen. I'm afraid this storm is going to disappoint a little bit. It's still going to provide moisture for some of you,

1:01many of you. It's just not what we want to see to bring that big amount of precipitation over widespread area because of its split nature. Nonetheless, we'll take what we can get. Then as we go into the weekend, the system heads off to the east, a westerly flow develops. That'll bring rebounding temperatures and winds are going to be picking up a bit this weekend through Monday. Then as we've been showing you, there's going to be a unique pattern setting up next week that's going to drive some colder air into the west and northern parts of the US. And that's going to drop temperatures, bring wind. I'm afraid. Some precipitation mainly in the northern areas with that front Tuesday into Wednesday. You can see ahead of that Pacific front yesterday, nice shelf cloud there, developing ahead of some showers and thunderstorms across portions of eastern Idaho. Another great shot of that moon and a beautiful shot there in the teetimes of those approaching high and mid-level clouds with this next Pacific wave coming on in.

2:01And yet, more and more tulips popping through the ground across the region, nice shot of that Pike's Peak area behind the storm system earlier in the week. You know, the Colorado Springs Pueblo area got great precipitation, a little bit more than expected down there. So that first system was really quite productive in many locations. We don't have the western view of the satellite this morning. It's not coming in. Lot of fog here in the Midwest. Here's the next trough. You can see the swirl right here. It's sinking its way towards the four corners area, stretching out a little bit. But it's going to get itself organized. And we'll be producing early today, rain and snow in Idaho, parts of Utah, and western areas of Wyoming, Montana as it sinks south and east. We have a lot of winter weather advisories and, in fact, all the purple shading you see here are winter weather advisories that pink are for winter storm warnings. I think that the middle part of Wyoming here

3:02is probably not going to come to fruition in terms of some of these advisories. But moisture's coming nonetheless. If you focus in a little bit more, we've got a winter storm watch for the summit area travelers. And you'll want to check our travel report. Interstate 80, late tonight and Friday, between Laramie and Cheyenne is one of those areas that I think we'll see some heavier snow. But elsewhere, we've got winter weather advisories for Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah winter storm warnings for the mountains of the front range, winter weather advisories for areas in the foothills west of Denver and Fort Collins. And the Colorado ski areas are going to get some good snow. There's going to be some snow down here as well. This is where we're going to be by 11 a.m. mountain time today with that trough just about near Jackson. Then it settles in by tomorrow at the same time and briefly closes off over west central Colorado before the split. So between tomorrow morning and Saturday morning,

4:05it just splits instead of staying cohesive. So what's going to happen is all the energy gets stretched out. But as it comes in, we're going to have two areas that I want to highlight where it does look like there's going to be good precipitation falling. It's going to be first, initially today and tonight across portions of Western Montana, Northern Idaho and Western and Northwestern, Wyoming. As the system sinks south and east, it will spread another axis of some good moisture right here. But in between, you can see kind of the splitting part of the trough may bring central Wyoming only lighter amounts of precipitation because of the split nature. Then we're going to have showers and thunderstorms developing out ahead of it. So it's going to be a decent little storm, but it's going to underperform in some areas. Here's the snowfall. You can see the Colorado high country going to do really well here. Also the Western and Southwest mountains of Montana and Western Wyoming, a little bit of snow

5:05for the big horns as well. Not a lot of snow out on the plains, but some that I80 corridor travelers keep that in mind as we go through the next 36 hours or so. We're into that time of year. Now you're going to see more of these maps. This is the thunderstorm potential. Yeah, we could even have a few isolated rumbles of thunder back here. But we're starting to get into the severe weather season. And over the next seven to 10 days, we're going to be hearing more about severe weather, especially in areas of the country that typically, climologically speaking, tend to see the increase in the month of March. So in the southern plains today, you're going to have some strong thunderstorms down in Texas and Oklahoma into the South Central Kansas. Then look at this. This is tomorrow. As the low comes into Colorado tomorrow, it's going to feed warm, moist, golf air into the region. Cold air comes in and you know the recipe. So we're going to be getting into more in the way of severe weather. And as we go into next week, first of all, the weekend a westerly flow here is developing

6:08and what that westerly flow is going to do is pump in mild air. Windy conditions here, strong jet stream winds will start to increase the wind. So winds pick up a bit this weekend. The split low goes down here into Northwest Mexico. But when we get into the middle of next week, as we see a sagging of this trough into the Gulf of Alaska further south, a lot of cold air up in Canada gets pushed southward. And that low gets kicked out of the desert southwest. So as we showed you yesterday, colder air is going to penetrate, but warm, moist air is coming out of the Gulf. So you can imagine what's going to happen next week, a big severe outbreak. In fact, the Storm Prediction Center already highlighting that for next week. You can see this frontal boundary by Tuesday evening. Look at the contrast in the temperature anomalies. Very warm, big warm up in the Great Lakes. And then we're going to have all of that warm, moist air. So there's a big collision taking place. There's also going to be a little bit of light to moderate snows up into the northern plains

7:10and northern Rockies with that cold surge. Tuesday and to Wednesday. This area of the country right here could do a 180 and go from very warm to very cold very quickly. But watch next week for severe weather here. It's already being predicted six to seven days out. You don't usually see this. So that's something to keep an eye on. Don't forget our regional travel forecast. If you're going to be traveling from later today through Friday, you're going to want to pay attention and watch.
