0:00It's hump day Wednesday, March 4th, 2026. Well, in between storm systems today and as we have been seen here over the last couple of days, whether it's tulips popping up or blue birds, the blue herons have made a return to the region. As you can see in the photo there, we have a break. It's going to be very springy today and for a good part of Thursday as temperatures will rebound as yesterday storm system slides off to the east. Now, the next storm is coming is a bit colder, a bit stronger, a little bit larger. It will impact an area bigger than the last one, which was quite concentrated and it will bring some travel hazards as the colder air with it will mean a better opportunity for snow. Then there's a

1:01break in the weather for the weekend, basically for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, not much going on except in the Pacific Northwest as we see a strong cold front that is going to come out of western Canada through the northern and central Rockies and the northern plains bringing a little dose of wintery weather as we get into the middle portions of next week. A lot of that cold will spread over a lot of the nation as the ups and downs that you start to get this time of year really showing themselves. I was very neglectful in mentioning the lunar eclipse that happened a night or so ago and sorry about that beautiful shot there of the colors of the moon and another beautiful shot in the skies here in northwest Colorado, northeastern Wyoming and look at those very calm winds, no ripples on the water there in the

2:05Casper area. Here's the next storm system coming in out of the Gulf of Alaska. Here's yesterday's system it is producing quite a bit of shower and thunderstorm activity across the nation's midsection. You can see on the water vapor still getting that swirl the clouds with the showers and thunderstorms out ahead of it and you can see the system is making its move now moving rather quickly off the coast of western British Columbia. A nice tap, a pacific air getting drawn in with that system so as it comes in it is going to produce moisture speaking of which now this is nothing right home about but for these particular locations I wanted to just highlight the fact that this was the best precipitation in some areas since August. That's how far back you go the big winter was carbon county Wyoming with a big thunderstorm and then very heavy wet spring snows lots of good water content. You're on the edge of the red desert you're in the red desert there and to have that much moisture that is also just very beneficial. Look at Salt Lake City. Rock Springs,

3:08Green River, Wyoming, Evanston very very well and if you look at the Coco Reyes volunteer rain gauge observers you can see that a lot of Laramie County Wyoming picked up between a quarter to upwards to over a half inch of precipitation in many areas as well as plat and Parts of Goshen County doing very well. Look at these precipitation totals along interstate 80 then into the upper plat valley further west. Look at the moisture. Look at all the red here along the Wasatch front and you can see here in Sweetwater County Wyoming just some really really good rainfall totals and snowfall melted together so haven't seen anything like that in a long long time. Now as we go through today we see that storm system heading out into the plains the next one diving into the Pacific Northwest and there it goes towards the four corners. This system is so close so close becoming a much larger bigger more impactful March storm but it only is going to close off over the four corners for about a 12 hour period. You needed to do it longer

4:12than that for the upslope to really build and become one of these bigger March storms you see but hey we'll take it just because we haven't had much of this at all. I mean the configuration is really good where the highs are placed. It's just that there's just too much energy with this system and it's going to split however as it comes in late tomorrow tomorrow night and through the day Friday it is going to bring wintery weather away by Saturday morning you can see the splitting. Look at that the storm stretches out and when that happens the energy gets diffused. It just becomes a much more diffused pattern and the precipitation what drives the precipitation the lifting of the atmosphere just gets stretched out over a long line and it just can't maintain itself so this gets cut off and we'll go down into the southwestern United States as we get into the weekend and early next week so let's kind of put in motion the precipitation with this next wave to show you what it will do starting from this morning through Saturday morning so you

5:12can see the Pacific Northwest Northern Rockies and then overnight Thursday into Friday and through the day Friday it comes out into the plains and what you can see especially as you look into Friday you can see the precipitation get organized then it gets stretched out and see how quickly it dissipates as that storm gets stretched out and split so it's not going to be as good of a moisture producer especially on the plains as we would have hoped nonetheless will take what we can get so if you put all that motion together that it has showed you you can see there's going to be a good part of Colorado into Nebraska Central and parts of southeastern Wyoming here that will get a nice amount of rain changing to snow across the Pacific Northwest portions of Montana going to get into the mix as well and we're gonna see showers and thunderstorms out ahead of the system out across the plain states to our east and we're into that time of year we're severe weather is certainly going to be a possibility pretty cold coming in this is midday Friday so you can see

6:14the cold air with this system does exist unlike the last one so there will be an area of snowfall you can see the Colorado high country gonna do really well here look at the Uintas of Utah the mountains of southwest Montana getting into the action as well and there will be a ribbon of light to moderate snows mainly on the grassy areas into the Pine Ridge sand hill areas of Nebraska back into the pan handle and there is going to be some front range snow for this system as well so we get done with that the system splits it gets left behind this is going to cause some showers down into Mexico parts of southern Arizona southern California although it's kind of moisture starved it'll have to take a couple of days to get moisture but then the jet stream displays and goes right across the U.S. on a west to east fashion so that'll bring back milder air for the weekend and into the day on Monday however up here a lot of cold air exists and as high pressure shifts and builds a little bit more eastward we're going to see a good push of much

7:20colder air come out of western Canada into the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies and you can see the upper logots picked up and brought into the system so we may end up with a little bit more of a dip in the jet stream than it's showing here but the the message here is that there's going to be a pocket of much colder air arriving late Monday in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada then by Tuesday morning it's going to shift into the northern plains and the northern Rockies and the air is cold with this system look at the warmth out ahead of it so you can already surmise what's going to happen so if we've got this big cold front coming in but it up against the very warm air coming up out of the Gulf what does this mean a lot of severe weather especially in this part of the country here severe weather next week is going to be a story as the collision of air masses come in it is March so it's going to bring a chill and there is going to be with the secondary system here's your big thunderstorm activity developing out ahead of it but there is

8:24going to be moisture on the back side of the front as it comes in right here and you can see that northern Wyoming southern Montana parts of South Dakota back up into here is going to see there's going to be more of a northern extent of the better precipitation with this second front and this map will update we might see that moisture shift a little bit further south but it is going to be a weathermaker producing mainly snow as it comes in with those colder temperatures don't forget our regional travel forecast updated Monday through Friday's each afternoon have a great Wednesday we'll see you have a great Wednesday we'll see yout
