Darwin Water Alert Lifted: Tests Show Water Safe

Health officials confirmed tests show the water is free of E. coli and other harmful bacteria, so it's safe to drink without boiling anymore. The alert kicked off on Tuesday when flash flooding hit the Darwin River Dam and knocked out the main pumping equipment. To keep water flowing, teams swished to bore fields in rural spots, but they worried about possible contamination from nearby septic tanks during the wet season, chief minister thanked power and water teams and everyone involved for fixing things so fast. She shared the update in a video on Facebook, highlighting their hard work amid a tough couple of weeks. By Wednesday afternoon, two of the four pumps were back online and folks no longer had to cut back on water use. The alert stayed as a precaution until tests cleared everything Thursday.
