Daily Mock: Eagles Draft Day Trade For Maxx Crosby

0:00Oh, yes, it is that time. An NFL trap. It's getting here quickly, a couple weeks away from the start of the 2026 NFL trap. And Hugh, today, is it different? One of my favorite reads every year. So Bill Barnwell already SPN does a mock every year, where he trades every pick, every single pick in the first round he creates a trade for. Now, some teams end up in the same mock trading up and back. You got to get a user imagination and use every pick as its own simple thing, its own unique thing. So let's go to the Eagles pick at number 23, where we've talked about edge rosters, we've talked about drafting receivers, offensive linemen. Well, on this one, the Eagles are trading out of the pick, but not for a different pick for an established player. In Bill Barnwell's mock that includes trades at every pick, he has this idea out there. What do you got? The Philadelphia Eagles send the 23rd overall pick plus a 2027 third. So this year's number one pick, number 23 overall,

1:00a 2027 third, next year's third round pick, and edge rusher, Nolan Smith, and they send that to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for past rusher, Max Crosby, who we know almost ended up with the Ravens, and then that whole thing fell through, and he's back in Las Vegas for now. Hugh Douglas, 23, three, and Nolan from Max. Nope. Nope. You know what's funny about this is that a lot of teams, it felt like a lot of teams were hot and heavy until Baltimore jumped in and they gave them what it was with two first rounders or something. It was two first rounders, yeah. All of a sudden, nothing, like nothing. So now, I think that, I mean, it's not fair because they knew he had surgery when they traded for him, but something happened with that. That definitely hurt his trade by it. Oh, of course it did. Well, the way I look at this, I would do the deal, and I look at it as you're getting a discount on the winning price, right? So this is a discount. If he was worth two ones before anyone knew something was wrong. Well, I'm giving a one, a three in a player.

2:01And one in the three. Yeah. A one, a three in a player. The first round pick, you know where it is, right? There's not a risk of, uh-oh. We might give them a top 10 pick by accident because it's next year. You know it's the 23rd pick. So that's in. The third round pick next year, that's not a huge valuable pick. Now, we'll see what the evil season is next year, but at best, what is that going to be? Pick somewhere in the 115, 110 range, whatever it's going to be, maybe 105, like if they don't have a good year, it's still not a huge pick. And then Nolan Smith, we're at the point now where, I don't know if they're committed to him, and he's had a ton of injuries so far in his career. And obviously Gates, the Crosby injury concern. It does. But Nolan Smith has a similar checkered injury pass. With that question. Yeah. Crosby's a much more proven player. You know, it's funny. However, we did this a last year at Cone of the Super Bowl. And everyone was so obsessed and attached with all the young players. And I understood it. It was coming off a great play. Yeah. But we were talking about get rid of him from all his carrot and stuff. No, he's going to be great. And all this. And now, like, well, now his values lower than it was then.

3:03Of course it is. Well, he didn't have his good of a season. And he's closer to having a contract. Yep. I like Nolan. And I do think there is a world where Nolan gets healthy and becomes the player that he showed us a couple years ago. But not here. Well, no, no, you could happen here. But there's three years of sample of Nolan Smith. And he's got a 10 game sample in context of three full years where he looks like a star. 10 games. Good for us that those 10 games came down the stretch of 2024 through the post season where he was dominant. I mean, he was just, he was the best pastor sure we had on the path to a championship. That he picked the right time to play his best. But he was 10 games in three years of Nolan Smith looking like a wild play. And he had a hell of a run in the Super Bowl year. He had a hell of a play. So why are we doing this? Why are you doing that? Because I don't want to give up that first round draft pick. I don't want to do that. Okay. So it's this pick for you. Yes. The first round draft pick for me, it's, I feel like there's going to be some nice young athletes that's in this draft that you could probably get with that 23rd pick. Yeah. I don't view this draft as a great one.

4:03I think next year is going to be better. Just in general. I think, I think there's some good athletes that can get after court. Sure. So you would use the first round pick on another edge? I would, but to that point, we've seen a lot of, we've looked at a lot of mocks, man. It feels like it's either going to be a offensive line or a diamond receiver that most people feel is going to be either or. Yeah. Don't see a whole lot of mocked defensive linemen at 23. Well, there's another element to this and this isn't really included in the idea of this trade. It's, if the Eagles think they can get back another high pick for AJ, you might still have a pick to use in the first round, right? Like if they get the, if this ends up what they make this trade and they also trade AJ for a first round pick, well, then you still have your first round pick. I would do this. It's, it's, I just, I can't pass up Max. It also, also last season from Jalux Hunt makes me feel better about, you know, like we're still weak at edge, but you like what he had the way he played. But I love the way Jalux Hunt played. And now it almost feels like if I'm getting rid of Nolan Smith, I might be getting rid of my second best edge as opposed to my best for Crosby.

5:05I think the, the fact that they really tried to bring back Jalen Phillips ultimate they bowed out, it tells you what they're thinking about Nolan. I think there's real concern that Nolan's going to be what they wanted him to be. And I think that that's totally fair concern. He can't stay healthy. I mean, that's been the biggest, that's been the biggest thing for him. He just can't, just can't stay healthy at all. Look, is there a world where he has a healthy year and he, he plays kind of like Jordan Davis through this year and he gets a contract? I think that could happen. Like I still like the player. But man, if we're worried about Max Crosby's knee, I'm just as worried about Nolan Smith in general, just being that kind of player. I would do that deal. First round pick, third round pick, and Nolan Smith to go get Max Crosby. It was him Bill Barnwell's latest trade only mock draft. All right. Like, right now you may not view them as an MVP or a Hall of Fame quarterback, but like, getting in the Hall of Fame is all about that. And I mean, he's been to two Super Bowls,

10:07any, you know, the Super Bowl MVP of one of them, it got to count for something. Well, it does count. Okay, sure, it counts for something. It's part of his career. I guess for me, when we look forward, I don't, it doesn't really matter anymore to me. Like, if he plays while this year, he's gonna get a new contract and it'll be here for long, and that's great. If he doesn't play while this year, then they're probably gonna get rid of him. Like, what is the surreble MVP have to do with his future? Well, when it comes to that, I agree. I think he should have to play for his contract this season because, you know, last season was a down year for him. So why would I reward him by giving him another contract or an extension, whatever you wanna call it? Like, no, you gotta prove it to me. But at the same time, like, I'm not gonna take away from what he's done, because, you know, if our defense holds in that first Super Bowl, while we looking at a two-time Super Bowl winning MVP. Sure. Then, what would we say about his MVP? You know what I mean?

11:07Like, two of them is a lot better than one. So, like, you can't just discount two. Well, I mean, he, I played the whole thing that way. Sure did. He played great in that game. Now, obviously, the fumble was that hurt, but he played mostly great, and I agree with him. Okay, I think if we got the ball back late in the game, if, you know, the holding didn't basically run the clock out, I think he would have took him back down a score again. No. He told my winnings would go to state, right? Yeah, he won in 2015. He won the Finals MVP, which is the equivalent of winning the Stubborn MVP. Yeah. I know he put Andre Aguidala on a different level, because he was, he played great. I always liked Diggie. I was the Niggie guy. Yeah, because I remember when they tried to make him, like the AI here. Yeah. I mean, he wasn't that kind of. No, he wasn't that kind of. But he was a very good player. He was, I, Hugh, he's a Hall of Fam player. He was an excellent basketball player for a long time. But I, our last call, basketball into it. LeBron, Kobe, all that. The fact that Andre Aguidala won the Finals MVP doesn't really mean anything to me. Well, it's, for his legacy, Joey does, because he's a Hall of Famer. I mean, I, you know, as the six, man, he's, he's definitely. Well, even as a star. I mean, he was a star. He was a star at one point. But yeah, but I, I look at him more in that, in that contribution that he had for that team is, is what really got him over the top.

It's just different because in basketball, you know, to be on a team like that and to get that, that's pretty impressive. Sure. It's really impressive. Not, no one's saying what Jellin did in the Super Bowl two years ago wasn't impressive. No, I'm not saying Aguidala winning the Finals MVP was an impressive. It just doesn't change anything about the player. The player is the player. I think it does. I think I hear what you're saying, Joe. And to a certain extent, I would say, okay, but for Jellin is different because of, of the way Jellin resonates with this city. And what he means to the people in this city, I just think it's different. Yeah. I guess for me, I don't, to me, he's a football player. He's a, he's a good football player. He's been one for the Eagles, but his job is on the line this year. I mean, that's, yeah, no doubt about that. Like nobody's, nobody's, see, that's where we agree. But when I think, when we talk about Jellin and his legacy, that's, that's a part of everybody's conversation about what Jellin has accomplished
