You're listening to the Dana N. Parks podcast on K M B Z.
And a good Wednesday afternoon.
It's home.
A story here from NBC News. Long time, we'll affort an announcer Jim Thornton has been suspended
from the show. No. And his role will be recast.
That doesn't sound like a, that doesn't sound like a suspension.
What did he do? Where do I apply? Can they put it in a puzzle so I can solve it?
Sony pictures confirming in a statement to NBC News that Thornton will not be involved with
the show as the studio investigates allegations against him. The studio said, and I quote,
we have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended
from Wheel of Fortune and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.
What how long has he been there? He's been there since 2010.
TMZ was first report, Thornton's suspension. The outlet also reported that the allegations
involved an incident between him and an American Airlines passenger on a flight back in May.
Do you know who I am? I know, sir. Nobody does. I was just going to say, Ryan, can I have a W
for Weiner? Cause I guarantee you that has something to do with this on a plane?
Scott, there have been. Yes. Okay. I couldn't be more thrilled. I can't stand. I love Wheel of
Fortune. I can't stand Jim Thornton. You want to say something to Jim, correct? Yes. Jim
actually has the ideal job, at least in my mind, to be a game show announcer is like a dream job for me.
You know, I love what probably like you. You wanted to do something like that since you were little
like I did, right? Actually, I started out wanting to be a game show host. What's wrong with being
the host? Yeah. A game show host is great, but I don't like being on camera. I like being in my
box and being the guy behind the microphone. So let's hear you do your own. Okay. Jim Thornton's attorney
tells TMC that the announcer did not engage in any illegal conduct, was not arrested,
and has not been charged with a crime. However, he says law enforcement did speak with him,
but they quote immediately determined that no wrongdoing had occurred and told my client he was
free to go. That could be the case. If that is the case, why are they looking for his replacement?
At least a temporary replacement probably because he acted, my guess would be I have no way to prove
this at all. Somebody probably recognized him on the plane and he was a, he was a complete jerk.
He is on camera most nights. No, no, no, wait a minute. This is not you were a jerk on the plane.
No way. He suspended and we are looking for a replacement.
The temporary one, yeah, at least until we conclude our investigation. I can't stand him.
He drives me crazy. He's what we call this business a puke. And, oh, that's not exactly that.
You everybody. And he violates a rule that I have in broadcasting where he shortens words.
You ready to go on VK, Scott? So this is not something that happens a lot, but it does happen.
I heard it a couple nights ago and about fell out of my chair screaming at my TV. Ryan
Secrest was saying, hey, Jim, you can bring, and I think Ryan Secrest is a great job.
Can you, can you give us details about this trip? You bet, right? We're sending a great person
on a VK to Fiji. There's more this afternoon. We have learned, quote,
a year from TMZ, that the alleged incident arose while Thornton was on a commercial flight back in May.
And a passenger complained to a flight attendant about him. So, they are in the air.
The passenger seated next to him complained to a flight attendant.
Sources with direct knowledge tell us the pilot called ahead to have law enforcement
meet with him when they arrived at the gate. We are told that officers question Thornton
who was wearing a wheel of fortune jacket at the time. Okay.
American Airlines says on May 14th, flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival
following concerns reported by a customer on board. The pilot does not call ahead.
I agree. I agree. For police to meet you at the gate. Because you're being adjourned.
Also, I'm going to be honest, wear in the wheel jacket on a commercial flight,
fill in the blank. What does that mean? Come on. I want to be more popular than I am.
You want people to ask why I mean, come on. So, not only is the conduct questionable,
whatever it was, but he is wearing company logoed merchandise. Which means he's representing the show.
He's fired. If this had just been, he was like, can I have your number? And he was not wearing a
wheel jacket. We wouldn't even be talking about this. The text line is on fire. Let me just read
a couple of them for you. Hey, Dana, did Jim get the RSTLNE jacked it from the show? Okay,
that's very good. Yeah. Jim is definitely in jeopardy. Get out. And he must have used vowel
language. He didn't mind his peace and cues. Get out. He used vowel language.
Seriously, where do I sign out? I'm being serious. Let's not make this about Jim. How bad does your
behavior have to be? Where a flight attendant is called and that happens from time to time. Like,
look, can I please change seats? This guy's drooling on me and easily, whatever.
But for the pilot to call ahead for authorities when
and how do they not have the the you'd have to be pretty disrupt the pilot audio already from that.
You would think the pilot audio would exist where they're saying, hey, we're approaching our
landing and we are going to need law enforcement to meet us for whatever this was and it wasn't a guy
being a jerk. Jesse Regis said as a text, is it okay for me to wear my navy jacket on a plane?
I'm assuming it would not be considered uniform. You are now retired. Yeah. It's perfectly fine.
So long as it's not uniform, as long as you don't do something disruptive, you are technically, I guess,
Jesse. It's a good question. Representing your old career, your former employer. Now, could they
do anything to you? No, no. But to your point, this was a current employer that is correct. That
pays him probably pretty darn well. You could go honestly making a fool of yourself, Scott,
all over town. I really do think in certain circumstances you could you go making a fool of
yourself all around town wearing a K and BZ shirt, then the company's going to be like, could we please
reel it in? Of course. And that's exactly what this is. And here's the other deal. I find it hard
to believe that if this was some misunderstanding, number one, police would not have been called.
Number two, you have to wonder in a case like this, was there something else?
You know, we're just sidelineing him period, which means they know what happened.
And whatever it is is enough for the company to say you're off the air.
Well, I mean, it was obviously not enough that it broke the law, but you don't have to break the
law to be suspended from your job. Correct. You know, if I'm, let me give you an example, man, go ahead,
please. I don't know if it is technically against the law to watch inappropriate content on your
laptop while seated next to a young woman. But we have heard of that so many times. And women
have asked flight attendants. I want to be moved. He's watching cinematics next to me, right?
That's not, I don't know that that's necessarily against the law. But if you're wearing your
company merchandise and a complaint is made and and this is a verifiable offense, I think a lot
of people would be fired for that. I mean, because it's so weird. There is a scene. It's not porn,
but it was an R rated movie. There was a scene in a star is born with Lady Gaga where she stands up
in the tub and you see all of it. All of it. But I would not have a, if someone was watching
that movie next to me, I would not have a problem with that. You wouldn't. I really wouldn't. And I
don't think you would get suspended and sidelined and they're looking for a replacement if you're
watching a movie that has nudity in it. Look, this happened at a bank of elevators. I've told
this story before. Johnny was trying to go to work at 530 in the morning. He's at a bank of elevators
and he looks down when we lived in the lofts. And he looks down and the gym is right below the bank
of elevators and there was a man on the treadmill and he goes, you are not going to believe this.
It was a full on. He had like a iPad or whatever. He goes, he was full on watching graphic
sexual material. And I said, the first thing I said, well, how do you know? We just wasn't
watching a movie. And there was like a love scene in the movie. And Johnny goes, you know it when
you see it. And that's not what he was watching. That's true. I used to see it all the time at the gym.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why are working out? I mean, I had to walk past the
treadmills to get from the stretching area to the weightlifting area. No. All the time.
Why? And it was like iPads and laptops. It wasn't like they were watching it on their phone.
I like it. I want to watch with me weirdos. I have never seen porn on somebody's iPad or whatever
at the gym never once. Really? That's so weird. Okay. I wish I had the nerve. If I was walking
by somebody like at on a treadmill, I wish I had the nerve to be like, what is wrong? I would
say what is wrong with you? I would just say I'm curious. What is wrong with you? It would be
more embarrassing if you just walked by and said to them, I've seen that one. It's good.
Then they know you're what you have seen what they are watching. Oh, Jody and Steve, huh?
They know that you're seeing it. This this guy at where we lived was his back was to the
bank of windows and the content was facing the bank of gigantic windows in the morning when
everyone's leaving for work. Doesn't care. Couldn't care less. Why? That is so weird.
Because probably thought he was alone sending an invite out into the ether.
Maybe. Oh my God. That's so gross. May I like to exercise? And I like to. Well, you know,
nothing attracts the ladies or as I learned yesterday, the baddies. Please do not.
Nothing attracts the baddies like watching porn while you're on an elliptical machine.
That turns them on. It's true. 913-586-7798-586-7...
You should go up to them when they're watching porn. This texture says and say, spoiler alert. Do you
want to know how it ends? 913-586-777-988. Thanks for listening to the Dana and Parks podcast.
