Britain's Ministry of Defense pushed back firmly.

Officials say the base of status isn't open for discussion since the UK kept sovereignty

there when Cyprus gained independence in 1960.

They stressed the strong ties between the nations amid these threats.

The call comes right after a drone hit caused minor damage at Akrateri.

That prompted European warships to step in and respond.

Tensions linger as both sides hold their ground, with no quick resolution in sight.
