It's March 31st. This is Hartford News Today, powered by AI. I'm Cory with the Story. The Crystal Mall in Waterford, which first opened back in 1984, shut its doors for good this past Tuesday. General Dynamics Electric Boat scooped it up last year to turn the whole spot into engineering labs, training zones, and software hubs for there. Nuclear Subwork. It's more of a soft close right now, with a couple tenants like H&R blocks sticking around past March 31st for tax season. Once they're out, Electric Boat locks it down tight with security, all exclusive for their defense ops. This move hits big for jobs, bringing 4,000 to 5,000 workers over from the Grotten Shipyard. It's all about speeding up hires and training so they can get hands on those submarines faster. They're already teaming with architects, iron ground breaking in June, starting with the old Macy's spot for trade training, aiming to open that by May of 2027. Catch their hiring event at the mall on April 11th from 9am to 3pm.

Head to the entrance by the old Buffalo Wild Wing spot, and you. Could be part of building the next wave of subs.
