4:05that fell who stinks. No, I've seen something. Did you see how the runny has happened? He doesn't have a change up that no one can do. Did anyone watch what happened to Paul Schienz? It had nothing to do with Paul Schienz. It had only a cruise, misplayed two balls in the outfield and you're like all time, they weren't technically errors, but they were errors. It was not Paul Schienz's fault. Did not know that, did not know that. Well, Schienz is amazing. Well, you know what? So is Christopher Sanchez. The fills look pretty freaking good also. Team looks really good. Our team looks like a big time contender, which doesn't surprise me, but it's good to see. Sanchez obviously the main star. I mean, you talk about losing a massive star, Wheeler. Not for too long, but you lose a guy of Zach Wheeler's caliber. This isn't like going from Juel and B to a Bona.

5:09You know Christopher Sanchez? You need to drum it. You know that Christopher Sanchez became only the sixth pitcher since 1900 to record 10 or more strikeouts and no walks in a scoreless opening day start. I was shocked by a couple facts, yeah, like the same fact. The first time the Phillies ever had a save on opening day at home. And that is bizarre. It's beyond bizarre. It's absurd, but look Sanchez, awesome. Matter of fact, Schwarber, let's listen to it because this was really the first, if you want to call it moment of the season. As he has done before, I believe the last time he signed a contract with the Phillies, he got the season off with a bang at home. Let's listen to Kyle Schwarber get things going early. The pitch, Schwarber swings, hits one high in the air to left. It's fairly deep going back. Haggerty at the wall. He looks up and it's gone. And Kyle Schwarber starts the season with a bang. Whoop run number one, a two run shot to straightaway left

6:10and the Phillies lead to nothing. I love it. It felt like three of our first four hits yesterday were opposite field hits. It felt like exactly what I'd always wondered. Why can't we just take what the pitchers give us and let the bat take the ball where it's just going to go? It isn't that the way we always hit best. And it felt like yesterday it was a really promising start for that reason alone. Just letting the ball go where it's going to go, putting bat on ball, just boiling it down to the simplicity of we're going to move guys. I love the fact that Justin Crawford is getting on the penalty and often, and man, he's going to be a ball. It's awesome. I can't wait to see what he does this year. Schwarber right at the gates. Are you kidding me? Are you serious?

7:11How on earth is this guy doing it? Love Kyle Schwarber. But that was crazy yesterday. I mean, we're all hoping for it. But he actually delivered it with Tray Turner on base. Thank you so much. And by the way, Kyle, I'm sorry, Alec Bohm, who I still doubt did an amazing job in the fifth inning, driving three more in. He actually did hit it out of the park. Opposite field also, by the way, just a great job with the approach, a great job with the patience, you know, not trying to do too much. I would say across the board until I think of Bryce. Oh, we have Bryce. Of course, he has struggled. Back has struggled the most. Well, and the back is thing, I wonder with the side armor. Look, I'm still thrilled that we have a side armor, but they say if he's off just a little bit with that side arm delivery,

8:11it really throws things off. Maybe that's what we saw yesterday. I'm not worried about Bacchus in the long run, because I know how much it seems, hitters hate to hit a side armor, especially a lefty side armor. So that felt like one of it. That felt like something that we shouldn't get caught up in. Yeah, no, it looked just nothing to be too hung up on, but I'll tell you this was a great day. There was some good, there was some bad, but there's a lot more good than bad. And obviously your chance to weigh in. However, you consume the game at the game. Look, if you were there, I'd love to hear from you. On the festivities of it all, you know, what stood out to you, sight and sounds, smell of the ballpark, feel the ballpark, but also listening here on WIP and watching on TV, all the opportunities to get out of this one far. Steel, five, nine, two, nine, four, nine, four, yeah, a lot of great stuff. Now, also though, I'll say this, I don't use the term long term, referring to Bacchus, and he's referring to Bacchus this year. I actually wonder how many people are thinking long term will watch in the game in a different sense. You know, I was watching the game yesterday and I was thinking, you know what, I think our team is really good, short term.

9:12But I'm watching Sanchez, I'm watching Crawford, and I'm saying to myself, I think they're gonna do a much better job than the group 10, 12, 14 years ago. I guess it's like 15, 16, 18 years ago now. I'm sustaining it long term. Crawford, you hope Crawford's not thombrown, little flash and then gone. You know, Sanchez, you hope isn't cliff late. Well, I know Sanchez is great ballpark. Well, I know it's completely different. Completely different players. It was amazing. Hopefully we want to say young, I mean. Yeah, hopefully it was incredible, but here's the point. I think they're really well positioned both short and long term. Obviously guys like Bryce and Trey and Schwarber and JT especially, and these guys eventually aren't gonna be the dudes and JT even right now is not the dude. But the reality is, I think they're in a really good spot. And what hit me yesterday was, I've got a big time contender. 12:16And I'm probably gonna continue to have a big time contender. And that made me as a Philly's fan feel great. Look, here is what stood out to you on opening day 215-5-929494. James, you were there, talk to us. Yeah, first and foremost, just being back in the ballpark. It really does feel like you're back with your friends. Again, I'm back to what I do every night. It was really a special thing just to be in the ballpark again and feel the whole thing. But I thought it was a great day for the Phil's. Obviously it got a little concerning late. You didn't want to have to use Duran there and all that. I want you to know I was in full mid-season mode. Dude, I get Sivria just like sitting there fuming about it, but look, they pulled it out. And I think to your point, Joe, I agree with you on the pitching side of things. I think with having Sanchez Lazardo locked up, I think you feel really good about the top of the rotation. And you hope that Painter turns into what you expect. And look, it was great to see Crawford yesterday. I'm not as sold on like everyone aging into their mid to late 30s together that that's gonna age great.

13:16Yeah, it's not great. You know, but I agree with you for like, I think for this year and next year, like it's full go time. I think with this group, as it is now, and obviously the wheeler think a big part of it, I think the next two years are incredibly important to get it done. I think it's a stain, but with this group here, these next two years are our paramount. Got a real shot, Devon, what hit you yesterday? Oh, man, I was honestly like Christopher Sanchez, you pretty much covered it. I mean, he's just become so reliable. And the bullpen came through like you mentioned, I was kind of upset that they had to use Duran also his entrance, just doesn't hit the same in the daylight. But when it comes to the bats, I mean, guys really stepped up like Justin Crawford, playing in his very first game in the majors, he had 40 people in the crowd, including his dad. And to go up and get one off on the very first pitch he saw, I was just so happy for him. Alec Bome really impressed me, even Brandon Marsh. I was a little worried about Brandon Marsh coming in.

14:17I know it's only one game, you know, really bad spring. I know he went through some injury stuff, some health stuff, but him going to for four, honestly, my biggest concern coming out of this game, and I know it's only one game, Bryce Harper. He struggled. Oh, for four. I mean, hopefully you can figure it out, but he was swinging and chasing what we feared was going on. Exactly, exactly. So look, it's only opening day, but what do we do on opening day? We overreact, and that's my biggest concern. Well, everyone, yeah, everyone chance a 2-1-5, 5-9-2, 9-4-9-4, you know what's the one thing that stood up to me, and the real was Sanchez, and I've seen this before in an opening day, like you're moving, you're, I don't want to say easing your way anyway. That's not quite what I'm trying to get at, but he was, I thought, very controlled with his emotions until he wasn't. Until he wasn't. Like, he was very stoic, guy. He was being here, done that before. Like, I got this, I'm on top of it. I'm not a real guy, I don't want it to be too emotional, but when he knew he was basically done,

15:18and he knew he got through 6-10-10 strikeouts, he let it out. It was phenomenal. It was a great moment. The story of him and the development of him is remarkable. It was never in top any prospects whatsoever, and you just feel incredibly confident when he's out there, but as Devon pointed out, the Harper thing, it was the fear all along because of what Dumbrowski said, was he gonna press? And he literally tackled that ball in the ninth. I mean, so he made a great play defensively. It was cool. But I think he inadvertently stepped on first base. Yeah. I had no idea with his leg while he was sliding back. But to that point, what hit me was Bryce Harper has become a more reliable defender than he has at the plate, which is, you know, not the Bryce Harper that we've known. Well, I think we got it, you know, chill a bit here. It's one game. It's one game. It's one game. One were overreact. The guy that I thought looked the worst was Garcia. I thought his opponents were better. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bad, bad, bad. He's got to get different arm pads than the orange ones

16:21he's got out there. I think he just, I don't think he should have sleeves on. Just, just cut it off. Oh, I want to see the buy steps and try stuff. He should just show him, just show him, cut the sleeves off. Just show him. All right, so your reaction at day one, it was a good day, obviously, a couple negatives. Backest was by far the biggest negative. But your reaction to the first day and what was it like to be there and obviously to have the fight and fills back? I just, it was great. It was a great day. 1-5-5-9-2-94-94. Talk to us. What hit you? Let us know. Often roll and at-board got it. Joe DeCamer in general, it's 9-4-W-I-K. And the pitch. Swing and a fly ball. Well hit, right field. Going back into the wall. Look it up. And it is gone. Opposite field. Alec Balm, a three-run home run to break it open. Well, it was quite a day for Alec Balm. Break it open. James made a nice play to start the game. It's defensively. Not a tremendous play, but a solid play. Hard hit ball. He made a play.

17:21He scooped that up with ease and then the home run. But of course the big news for his life. And it's really sad when you see this stuff is family strife. Related to the economics. Horrible. Horrible. Don't let your family manage your finances. I mean, just think about that. Forgetting everything else. The concept of suing your parents. I know. It's horrible, man. I have, I have more sympathy for Alec Balm. There's your wonder, John. How long has it been going on? Yes. Yeah. And I've been awfully hard on him for his mindset. His, you know, I've accused him of being sort of childish and not having the right outlook and attitude. But man, if you're having all sorts of familial issues. Oh, brutal. If your folks are not having, you know, bearing your best interest in mind, and I don't know the details, I know that I need to have room for more sympathy for the guy. That's for sure. Yeah, terrible spot. And you know, where these things get complicated is, they often start with good intentions.

18:22And here's what I mean by that. Think about this. These are millionaires, multi-millionaires in many cases, who are going to come into hundreds of thousands or millions at the age of 21, 20, 24, 23. And so, you know, family members get involved because, you know, most 22-year-olds don't know what to do. So, you know, he was a third pick in a draft. So he was going to be a millionaire young. And so parents get involved, but then sometimes things become nefarious. Sometimes they just become bad management with people that actually have good intentions, but don't know how to do it. Sometimes nefarious. And it's a sad situation. We saw this with Ryan Howard about 20 years ago. Yeah, I thought of that. And it started, he alleges it started in 2019. So that's seven years ago. He's what, 29? Is that hold out? I believe so. So yeah, you're right, 21, 22. Yeah. Your parents have run your finances your whole life. So you're like, ah, whatever. I mean, it's what it makes sense. And you're supposed to trust them implicitly, right? Like that's the core of this, is that of all people who else would I trust more to run my stuff?

19:22Yeah. In the end, Boom's Homer was particularly big because of back his struggles. It turned out to be the winning hit of the game. They needed that one. Let's go to the phones. What stood out to you on day one? It's a good game. Obviously, the ninth inning got a little squirrely, but otherwise, outstanding game. 215-592-94-94. Jordan and Princeton kicking us off. Jordan, good morning. Good morning, everyone. Great opening day. Joe, I just feel your assumption that opening day is not the best day of the year. Well, it's funny, because I swear to you when I was trying to think about that, I've kind of gotten to the point where I assume the Phillies will make the playoffs more, you know, but they won't always. So on the, here's the thing, Jordan. Yeah, I like Christmas. It's your, well, I think you were saying sports, but Jordan, I will say this. Up until a couple of years ago, I probably would have told you the Thursday of the tournament. I'm having a hell of a hard time getting into this tournament. So that, that once in me is diminished. Maybe baseball opening. Well, you know what, Jordan, I'll say what I'll give you.

20:23I love the divisional wildcard rounds of the playoffs. I went out of order there. Wildcard and divisional Saturday and Sundays. So there's a couple to choose between. I, I, I enjoy that as well. I love those days. Okay. I bet, you know, not to shout myself out, but Rubin Amaro said that my call yesterday was one of the best calls he'd ever heard on WIP. Anybody else hear that? Yes. I really appreciate it. You know why we heard it, Jordan? We were there. We're, we're there. We were like two feet away from him. And I think he was just making sure it actually got said. Yeah. I really did. You know, James, the band fish was also financially mismanaged for millions of dollars. This kind of thing is common. You really have to understand who is managing your money and whether or not they're qualified and whether or not you can trust them. And the fact that his parents is just really sad because, you know, clearly he's all, he's our working baseball player. Say whatever you want about the guy. Yesterday opening day was the best opening day I ever attended. It was a beautiful day. It almost very filled out to you that we gave it up at the end.

21:25My only question from the day, you know, you could pick up our players, but, you know, itching management at the end. Do we leave the guy in a little bit too long? Did Rob Thompson not want to pull him? But yeah, it's just it's opening day. He had a big lead, Jeremy, Jeremy, Jordan, they did not leave him in too long. But here's what I will say to that because I was listening to Fransky and L.A. He's really, really terrible. But let me say I got the numbers here. He's really bad against righties and they were too right, you know, burger and, and then they pinch hit for somebody. So they were just talking about that he, I mean, the numbers are stark. Yeah, no, but I was cool with that because Jordan, you had a lead, it was a solid lead entering it, and you're trying to avoid using not only Doran, but your best set up, man. You're trying to avoid that. But if you have to, you can't. And that's exactly how Rob was doing. I was glad that he did it. I was like, you got to get him in. Yeah, I got him out. I got him out. I thought it was weird. I agree in this. I thought it was weird to go to bag as to start dining, like he basically was going to him for

22:26Kyle for Cory Seeger and then your righties after, like I, I get your point and you should be able to hold a five round lead, but I don't think it was like if it had been the top of the line up and they got two out of three lefties or whatever, maybe, it was weird, here are the numbers versus lefties, 139 versus righties, 365. It's pretty, it's pretty wild. Was he just, it was top or just excited to see the side armor, like we all know? No, I think it was that he had a five nothing lead and he's like Seeger is by far the best hitter who will bat likely this inning. I'm going to get this guy out and figure it out, but I think it was a mistake. I also think there's something to be said, try to get the new guys in there. It was three straight new guys, like that. It was not a good welcome to Philadelphia for him. No, well, you know what? Okay, Rhea, did you think in the moment of Jordan Romano? The eyes, yeah. Well, just in the meltdown. No, the meltdown, yeah. Because wasn't that opening day last year? I remember that right? I think it was. He know by the way that he's the closer for the angels right now. Well, good luck to do that.

23:27It's not wild though. It was opening day. I know that it was Jordan Romano's first appearance I just remember watching that guy. I was like, what in the hell is going on? We were frightened immediately. He looked like he could cry. It was awful. All right, two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four. You can wait on yesterday.
