The Dallas Cowboys used their rule for their Dallas Day event, bringing in area prospects including Texas and their running back EJ Smith. Smith wrapped up a six year college career split between Stanford and Texas and M, mostly as a backup with no season over 218 rushing. Yards. Still, he caught the Cowboys eye because he's the son of Hall of Famer Emmett Smith. Cowboys coach Brian Shoddenheimer from a football family himself called the workout very cool. He praised Smith's power as a short yardage runner, his smooth movement in person, and the kind of young man he is. Dallas being a football hotbed gives the Cowboys an edge here. They can basically stretch their top 30 visits into 45 or more by tapping local talent. If Smith impresses enough, he could land a rookie mini-camp invite and maybe fight for an undrafted spot on the roster.
