About this episode
Dallas Cowboys Restructure Contracts, Release Defensive Tackle Perrion Winfrey: A Look at His Journey
The Dallas Cowboys are making roster adjustments ahead of the 2026 NFL free agency. Theyve restructured contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott, left guard Tyler Smith, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. On the other hand, theyve waived defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey, who had a promising start with the Browns but faced off-field issues leading to his release. Winfrey, a fourth-round draft pick, played for the Browns, Oklahoma, and Birmingham Stallions before joining the Cowboys in 2025. Despite making the fifty-three-man roster, he only played in one game, earning two tackles. The Cowboys have solid depth at defensive tackle, and these moves aim to free up cap space for more changes.

Welcome to NFL News Today. Two minutes of updates that matter to NFL fans, hit subscribe and stay connected. The Dallas Cowboys are tweaking their roster ahead of 2026 NFL Free Agency. They restructured contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott, left guard Tyler Smith, and wide receiver CD Lamb on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, they waved defensive tackle Perry and Winfrey. Winfrey came into the league as a fourth round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns. He started college ball at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to Oklahoma, where he earned second team all big 12 honors twice. His rookie year showed promise with 22 tackles and 13 games. But an off-field incident involving a threat led to his release by the Browns, and he's only played a handful of NFL games since then. After time in the UFL, with the Birmingham Stallions, Winfrey signed with the Cowboys in 2025. He made the 53 man roster and got two tackles in his only appearance that season, a loss
to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys still boast solid death at defensive tackle with Quentin Williams, Kenny Clarke, and Osa Odeezua. These moves free of cap space as they gear up for more changes. Special thanks to our sponsor for supporting this episode, a pillow that plays your sound quietly, comfortably, effortlessly.
