Cowboys Restructure Contracts, Plan Defensive Overhaul

The Dallas Cowboys restructured contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott, Gar Tyler Smith, and wide receiver CD Lamb this week that created a little more than $66 million in immediate salary cap space. The team needed to get under the $301 million cap for next season. These changes were expected since Dallas has been tied on money for a while. Now they have room to breathe and make other roster moves. Last year, the Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in team history. That led them to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberfluss right after the season. They interviewed nine candidates and hired first-time coordinator, Christian Parker. The team plans more tweaks soon, possibly with their top defensive tackles like Quint and Williams, Kenny Clark, and Osa Odi Hizua. All three have big deals averaging over $20 million a year. Senator Jerry Jones hinted last month at going big on spending.
