Cowboys' Linebacker Gap: Draft or Trade?

On March 31st, Dallas Cowboys exec Stephen Jones is cooling off talk about rushing to

grab a linebacker before the NFL draft.

The team beefed up their secondary and free agency with guys like Jalen Thompson, PJ,

Locke, and Kobe Durant, all fitting the new defensive coordinator style, but they skipped

linebackers entirely so far.

Hey coach Brian Shottenheimer says they're open to deals after missing top free agents.

Jones though sees no deadline pressure.

He points out player moves happen every day of the year, with trades or post draft pickups

always on the table.

Fans and analysts see a thin spotted linebacker, with just three guys on the roster, Demarveen

overshown, Shamar James, and Justin Barron.

Overshown's injury passed as real concern for depth and reliability there.

Looking ahead, the Cowboys hold two first round picks in the 2026 draft at number 12 and

number 20 overall.

Names like Georgia, CJ, Alan, Texas, Texas, Jacob Rodriguez, and Ohio State's sunny styles

are buzzing as fits.

The draft hits Pittsburgh from April 23rd through 25th, so we'll watch if Dallas trades

up or stands pat to fix that linebacker gap.
