Cowboys' Draft: Make or Break for Defense

0:00On April 21st, the Dallas Cowboys face a make-or-break NFL draft this year with two first-round picks after missing the playoffs two seasons straight and running a weak defense. Owner Jerry Jones has seen huge highs and lows and drafts over his era, from game changers to total flops that hurt the team for years. On the steel side, Emmett Smith, when 17th overall in Round 1 back in 1990, traded up for him using a pick from the Herschel Walker. Deal, and he led them the three Super Bowls as the all-time Russian King. Larry Allen, a Hall of Fame Guard, dropped to Round 2 pick 46 in 1994, dominating for years. Then there's Jay Ratliffe snagged in Round 7 pick 224 in 2005, turning into a two-time all-pro nose tackle. Honorable mention to Deck Prescott, fourth-round pick 135 in 2016, who smashed rookie records with 13 wins and a 104.9 pass-erating. The bus sting, though, like Taco Charlton, first round 28th overall in 2017,

1:05who barely played and got cut after attitude. Issues, Quincy Carter, second round 53 in 2001, threw more picks than touchdowns and a dark QB stretch. Morris Clayborn cost a trade-up to six overall and Round 1 of 2012, but injuries wrecked him with just four interceptions in five years. With holes still at linebacker, cornerback and defensive end, Dallas needs these picks to hit big and flip the script for good.
