Council Contractors Cut Down Protected Trees in Sherwood Forest

Intake Wood, part of the famous Sherwood Forest, linked to Robin Hood. These trees were in a nature reserve where felling them without permission is straight up illegal. The work was meant to thin out non-native trees and replant natives to boost biodiversity, but the crew from Foxtone Forestry hit the wrong spot. Local fines could hit 20,000 pounds per tree or even go unlimited for license breaches. Locals are furious, calling the site a mess with trunks blocking paths and safety risks for kids heading to school. Folks say they've lost privacy since you can now peek into homes, and one cancer survivor misses his daily woodland walks that helped him cope. It happened during bird nesting season 2, adding to the outrage. The council hit pause on all felling right away and is digging into what went wrong.
