he's not gonna just keep pitching for the hell of it, right?

He wants to win.

He wants to dominate, right?

And he did a good job last year with the Giants,

and obviously going back to Detroit,

it was something that everybody in baseball kind of like,

maybe that'll be the team.

Work out for them, too.

You know, a lot of things work out for them,

pitch and wise,

the framber thing,

and then Burlander,

they've been through some health issues,

and they were able to catch in late in the offseason.

And then to look at this,

is he probably better to get Justin Burlander somewhere?

I don't know if I...

He struck me out, I think.

He pitched a Fenway punch with behind the plate,

probably over two with two strikeouts,

two backdoor breaking balls,

Does it make you feel good that somebody faces still in the league?

Yeah, I mean,

I'm a young 50.

I feel good about it,

and it's a test on who he is.

The last time he was in Detroit,

he wasn't going his way,

and then we traded for him in 17,

and that pitching group

taking a good job convincing him

to do certain things pitch and wise,

and since then,

it took off again,

and I think it's strong in the group.

There were great,

there were very transparent about usage,

and the guy,

the experience I had with him in 17,

you know, he prepared,

he'll challenge,

so much to Alex,

the front office,

and the analytic department,

looking for the wife,

we wanted him to do certain things on the mound,

and it was like,

okay, it wasn't like,

okay, I'll do it.

No, no, okay.

I'll do it,

but you've got to tell me why,

and show me why,

and they did.

You know, as you guys know,

it's one of the best pitching coaches

in the last 20 years.

The ability to communicate,

you know,

having with Verlander,

having with Cole,

very similar guys,

you know, physical guys,

they had with Fast Post,

but the repertoire,

probably for Stormy,

was short,

and,

like I said,

from there,

they took off.

When you guys made that deal

for Justin,

you did lit up the roof, right?

Right off that tee?

Yes, because we were very disappointed,

what happened during the training deadline,

nothing happened,

and then,

with the wave,

what's it called?

We had that,

you know,

that was probably the last one,

the big one.

And we got them,

in a moment that we were playing

good baseball,

and obviously having him,

Kyle,

as a 1-2,

put us in a good spot.

people don't know what we went through,

you know, it's more than baseball,

there's only three guys

that really played the prize

for what we did in 17,

and, you know,

we know how he feels to us

and the families, you know.

We were down on the ground,

and our family suffered,

for something that we decided to do in 17,

and, yeah,

deservedly,

so we paid the prize,

and I know he, you know,

I know how he felt, you know,

and, you know,

we can kind of talk about stuff

like that,

nobody else can do it.

As a manager though,

he's, you know,

his ability as a manager.

He's good,

he's good all the way to us, you know,

I think his teams,

throughout the years,

kind of like,

are perfect for him, you know,

because he can mix and match

and take advantage of certain situations, you know.

The pitching part of it

is something that he's really good at,

looking for matchups,

and he relies on his group,

you know, he believes in the,

the analytic group,

and everything that,

that comes with it,

and he executes.
