Commanders Sign DT D.J. Davidson, Fortify Defense

0:00On April 1st, Washington commanders keep stacking their defense this off-season, signing free agent defensive tackle DJ Davidson on Tuesday. The fifth round pick out of the 2022 draft joins from the Giants after four seasons there, bringing some rotational experience up front. Davidson suited up for 47 games in New York, racking up 49 tackles in 2.5 sacks. Injuries hit him hard though, a torn ACL wiped out his rookie year, and last season he dealt with a neck issue, plus a concussion that landed him on. Entered reserve. Meanwhile, Washington's defense was straight trash in 2025, coughing up 384 yards per game, dead last in the league. That mess pushed them to overhaul things, hiring Dorante Jones as defensive coordinator back in January, he came from Minnesota staff. Jones plans to flip the script to a 3-4 front, just like Brian Flores ran with the Vikings. Davidson fits right in since he played that scheme as whole Giants career, likely serving as death behind the starters while battling for training, camp roster spot.
