The team has about $82 million in cap space this off season thanks to restructures and releases. General manager Adam Peters plans to hit free agency hard, starting March 11th, especially with quarterback Jaden Daniels on his rookie deal, ticking down. He tops the list of needs alongside Edge, Center, and others. The current safety group lacks standouts. Players like Will Harris, Juan Martin, Jeremy Reeves, Percy Butler, and Tyler Owens are all in their final contract years. Harris dealt with injury, Martin regressed badly, and Reeves showed hustle but athletic limits. The rest are special teams types, or practice squad guys, with no big free agents departing from the roster. Two defensive coordinator, Durante Jones, wants aggressive versatile safeties for three safety packages.

Top free agent targets fit different budgets. Brian Cook, from the chiefs, offers box presence and tackling at around 14.2 million per year. Aaron Thompson of the Cardinals brings slot skills and coverage at 9.5 million annually. For a bargain, Alohe Gilman from the Ravens provides instincts and multi-role snaps for just 4.1 million. Bottom line, even the low cost option beats the current room.
