Commanders Release Marshon Lattimore, Freeing Cap Space

0:00On March 2nd, the Washington commanders are releasing cornerback Marshawn Latamore before the newly year starts on March 11th. This move wipes out his $18,500,000 cap hit for next year and ends his short stint with the team. They picked him up at the 2024 trade deadline from the New Orleans Saints, giving up third round, fourth round, and sixth round picks. For the four-time pro bowl player, it was part of their push to add experienced talent after a strong playoff run a couple seasons back. Latamore's time here didn't pan out. He appeared in only two games after the trade because of a hamstring issue, and before that he had a tough stretch allowing a high passer rating win. Targeted, he also dealt with a knee injury and faced legal trouble with weapons charges in Ohio back in January. General manager Adam Peters mentioned at the Scouting Combine last week that they were still talking things over with Latamore, but now the decision is final, clearing the way for other roster changes. With cap space freed up, the commanders can focus on building for the future as they reshape their defense this offseason.
