Colts Prioritize Linebackers in Offseason

But they also moved Zaire Franklin, leaving their linebacker group in a tough spot and turning it into a top priority. Even before this trade, General Manager Chris Ballard flagged linebackers as a key area to fix. He noted at the NFL Combine that while the draft class looks solid for the front seven overall, the Colts still need more help there. Right now, the linebacker depth is thin on proven talent. Jalen Carly's leads the group with just 242 career defensive snaps, while others like Devon Versaure and Joseph Van have zero in the NFL experience. Ballard wants to build a younger, quicker defense, and this opens the door to do that from the ground up at linebacker. Better coverage skills will be crucial, heading into next season. With the off season ahead, expect the Colts to target linebackers hard in the draft or free agency to shore up this glaring weakness.
